  1. hi everyone i need the pros and cons of living on the cut or marina. i have been looking at a mooring on a marina on the k&a there are no free moorings you have to buy mooring with a boat on, some of the boats for sale are a bit ropey and qiute high priced for what they are, what can i expect to get for £30-£45k i am looking for a 4 berth hopefully semi trad 50' plus. the marina manager has a few boats coming up for sale but there going to be around the £60k+ mark, i can get one built new for £60k. do i settle for a boat i am not 100% happy to get the moorings, or buy something that i like and am 100% happy with but not have a mooring i need to stay in one area for work i have a stretch of canal about 12 miles to move about could i get away with moving about on this stretch. andrew
  2. come on people any suggestions
  3. mike can you explain how you can get say£40k to purchase a boat using credit cards this would be an option worth looking at. the problem is having three defaults on my credit history makes it hard to get a credit card, i cant even get a capital one card and that is supposed to be the easiest to get. andrew
  4. stephen i am going to ask the marina manager when i see him on wednesday, i check once a week to see if they have any more boats for sale, he has had seven boats up for sale recently regards andrew
  5. roger its the only marina in the area with moorings available, close to work and i already know a few people that live there. i am going to have too buy 2nd hand and with moorings i can pick up boats between £30k and £40k. i had thought about buying boat then trying to get mooring at the marina but i dont know if there are any spare moorings going andrew
  6. hi thanks for your input yes i plan to liveaboard, but i need marina mooring for work and security, to get mooring you have to buy boats that marina has for sale.
  7. hi i have been weighing up my options whether to buy a new or used nb. i have found a builder local who can build me a new nb for £60k but i dont think i will be able to stretch my finances so i might have to look at a 2nd hand nb. what do i look for in a 2nd hand nb these boats come with moorings which is a priority, what do i look for the cosmetics or the mechanical/electrical side. i am not to bad with mech/elec stuff but hopeless with carpentry, so do i look for a boat thats how i want it inside and worry about the exterior later i am quite happy to rub down and paint the nb, my main problem is that i am 6ft 6ins so my priority is to find a nb that i can stand up in, any advice on what to look for. andrew
  8. come on people looking for advice nmptwentyone i also find it strange that i can be refused credit by one company for not having any credit history, then another company turns me down because i got defaults andrew
  9. beatnik glad you got your loan ok, have you got a good credit history i have three defaults on mine so have to be careful who i apply to, i am looking to borrow £22k, you are not alone in feeling wary but lots of people do the same andrew
  10. nmptwentyone thanks for the advice i have got a credit report from equifax the only negative thing is the three defaults, which i am paying each month, i have tried these online loan companies and they are rubbish you ask for £20k then they offer you £7k. another favourite which i had been warned about is where they agree to give you a loan but you have to pay an admin charge which is £49.99 or £39.99 depending on which company, a friend was after £20k and was asked to pay this admin charge he paid the £49.99 then was offered a loan of £3k which was no good, so he did not get the loan he wanted and lost £49.99 so beware of any company that ask for money up front. i have been asking for an unsecured loan for buying a boat but i agree with other thread about unsecured loan is not to say its for a boat. andrew
  11. beatnik congratulations did you get the full £25000 you were after, and who did you go through andy
  12. depends on cost of nb but probably £40k maybe £50K if i have a new build
