  10. thanks for the link graham...will check that out in a mo.. i have used tuckey before but unfortunately one of his strops snapped on the last lift and dropped the shell from 6 ft! just done the maths on the shell and it weighs in at 15 ton. the boat is outside in a yard with plenty of room to swing. entrance is a little tight but shouldnt be to much of an issue.. will check the magazines...good idea any more suggestions most welcome jim
  11. Money is an issue......I've left enough space alongside the boat for the crane to come parallel. Just needed some name/numbers of crane owner/ low loader drivers so I can get some quotes. Is there anyone apart from AB Tuckey?
  12. ok thanks...i could go in at willowbridge marina as its pretty close.. the boat is 62' long, weighs around 17 tons. surely there are some crane/lowloader owners that can do the job as a package.? the boat is near junc 12 of the m1 so only 12 miles away from the water. anyone recommend anyone?
  13. any recommendations as to someone who can move my boat from toddington(dry land ) to the cut...anywhere... crane/transport/crane thanks james
  14. just finished my shell after 2 years hard graft...at present making the stainless tanks and bolting on the hand rails while i try to find some one willing to move it... cant use tuckey on principle as he dropped the last boat i made from about 6 ft causing a big dent in the fore end .luckily all weld fracture tests were ok. Anyone know of someone ...the boat is near junction 12 of the m1 i dont care where it goes in. your help would be gratefully recieved thanks jim
  15. great, thanks for the quick reply..do you know where to source the stat/housing? also the pulley wheel i have is a multi belt wheel with about 16" diameter, i was hoping to run a couple of alternators off it as well as the jabsco .. any advice on pulley sizing would be appreciated.james
  16. Hello, i am new to this forum ..i have been building a 62' narrowboat for the last 2 years. i have nearly finished the shell and am pretty close to launching. i have dropped in a lister 27/3 engine which came from a lighthouse (reportedly) which i have connected to a prm 500 ,2-1 reduction turning a 25/23 4 blade prop(i hope) rather than make any mistakes from this point as regards to the plumbing/connections /pulleys i thought i would see if any of you chaps would share your experience and knowledge re the best cooling system set up.i have bought a jabsco pump and ive welded in a 6'x2' baffled tank on the port side. any information gratefully recieved thanks james.
  17. i just use a millwaukee polisher set on around 2000rpm with a multi disc perago .gentle pressure is enough to remove surface material.we keep the old ones for edges/guards/corners etc as they come in usefull and keep the good ones for flat surfaces.ive tried the drill compatible singles/triples.ok for a small area but unrealistic for large areas(over a square metre) they are harder wearing than one may presume.especially on the flat and at the correct speed.
  18. hi there,i use perago multi (7 wheels) i do repairwork/fabrication etc for a living.i find these the only available option to get a key where 2 pack /epoxy will adhere with lasting results. im probably on the 15th wheel.1 wheel will take off all the paint(5layers oil based) on a 40 ft cabin. will take 2 men 2 days roughly.when the surface is pitted the tips get damaged a bit quicker.a milwaukee polisher is used to run the wheel.when shot blasting is not possible these are the next best thing.ear phones and all protective gear are needed.
