  1. If you have an inverter make use of it and go 230 volt the prices are much lower.I have to disagree with the "greatly increases power useage".A report done by a canal magazine and Which magazine blew this myth some years ago.Sorry I don't have more supportive evidence as it was a while since I read the document.

  2. In the interests of authenticity shouldn't you be insisting that guests sit on the roof sporting pirate hats and mankinis?

Apparently Hudsons are working on a replica hire boat with genuine mannequin passengers cavorting on the roof with bottles of l*ger and glasses of Lambrusco.

And Hudson's will give you a rivetting view up someone's kilt.

  3. You're right.

I'm in the middle of SOMEWHERE smile.pngclapping.gif

I am at East Marton for the the next couple of weeks, that's just before the Bank Newton set of locks.Good pub called the Cross Keys and Cafe at the moorings nearby.Worth a stop for a couple of days.Just to add the water level is quite low here and down through to Gargrave,I had to help Richard's Hire Boat ISABELA,is that the right spelling?through a low pound just before the Anchor Inn at Gargrave. We towed her out when she ran aground.

  4. I am getting more angry now that I am beginning to realise I should not have started this thread without seeing the letters myself or asking for more facts. For that I apologise.I took hearsay as truth.I was hoping to help a friend with feedback from here, however I am saddened that I was not made aware of all the facts beforehand.

  5. If a boat has a mooring one side of the canal but choses to moor the other on visitor moorings, they have two moorings in a congested area. Fair?

No I said they don't use the visitor moorings! They move around quite regularly.

  6. I am now reliably informed by one of the boaters that far from being "ordered" back to their moorings they have been asked. One of the boaters as a CRT mooring, but is in dispute with them over some vandalism at the mooring and does not to moor there regularly. The other has a mooring that is payed for when required. There is probably more to it than this but the boater without the CRT mooring was pretty angry at the time so obviously I didn't get the other side of the coin. And no, I have not seen the letters myself.

  7. I get the impression that these boaters are living on their boats - could this be part of the reason if the moorings are non-residential? That CART think that they should either be CCers or have a residential mooring and so want to flog the moorings off to someone else - if they've had them longterm, presumably CART would whack the auction reserve price up at he same time. I'm not sure how the moving regularly but never onto visitor moorings works, either, if they are recreational rather than liveaboard boaters.

Your impression is correct.I think you are not far wrong.

Can you scan in, or take a photo, of the letter? I'll reserve judgement until I've seen the wording etc.

Will try,but these are private letters remember.

  8. You vill obey ze orders..

Just out of curiosity, are the moorings far from where they are currently? And do they move in a small(ish) area?

Whilst there is nothing against that, I knew crt would have a go at it eventually.

The moorings are indeed close to their cruising range.

  9. Hi Ian,

Do you have the charge voltage set for 14.8v ? The spec states thats the required voltage for these. I charged mine with a genny / charger at that voltage last winter and didnt need to top them up at all.

    Les

Have Victron Inverter/charger will look at the manual to see how I can charge at 14.8v.Cheers Les.

  10. A couple of my boater friends have been told by official letters from CRT to return to their moorings or be classed as CCers. Both these boaters have CRT long term moorings but because of where the moorings are they are they tend not to use them unless they are leaving the boat for any length of time. The moorings are in the centre of town and have been the subject of vandalism occasionally. Both of them move regularly and are never seen on visitor moorings. What is happening?Anybody else had these letters?

  11. Just a heads up for a company ive been in contact with regarding T105 equivalent 6v cells @ only £81.00 each made by Global Yuasa no connection with the company but what a great price. conact ray@supac.co.uk 01685 729850 clapping.gif

Yep great price and they are a decent company.Too late for me though I have already wired up my Trojans.

  12. Went to Abergele,Tayna's place, picked up 4 Trojan T105s (450amp)and replaced my old batteries the same day.The wiring connections for these batteries are simple and very tidy(6volt series/parallel).I have disconnected the 175amp alternator and I am just using the travel pack and Victron inverter/70amp charger which I think will prolong their life. Thanks to all for assistance and Smiley Pete for the wiring diagram.

Forget supply to boat, just wire the batteries up with the interconnects.

because you have 4X6v and want 12v it is a little more involved.

Take two 6v batteries and connect positive on one to the negative on the other, you now have a 12v battery

Take the other two batteries and do the same, you now have another 12v battery.

Take the two '12v batteries' and connect the unconnected positive on one to the unconnected positive on the other.

The same with the negatives take the unconnected negative on one to the unconnected negative on the other.

You now have a 12v battery bank.

Your take off's will now be where you made the last connections, positive on one of the 12v batteries and negative on the other 12v battery.

Someone may be able to put up a diagram to make it clear, or try drawing it out on paper.

Edit: to use the batteries in a balanced way you only have two (one positive and one negative) terminals to use.

I have found this while searching.I could do with a diagram if possible, anybody able to do this.Cheers.

  14. I have some "leisure batteries" at the moment and they were adequate for when I was on a landline, however we are now CCing.I have been using a 175amp alternator and the 3.5kw Travel Pack through a 70 amp Victron charger.I have recently disconnected the alternator and I am just using the 70amp charger. The charging regime with both alternator and charger was making the batteries overheat.I think the result of using both at the same time as killed these batteries.
