  1. Yes I agree with you, I have always wanted to live on a boat & have spent years putting it off because of the partners I have been with at the time not feeling the same way. Looks like im going to be single again in the near future as I am not prepared to put it off any longer
  2. Well we have just got back from our 1st short trip on a narrowboat. It was absolutely brilliant!!!!! Although we had a couple of things go wrong with the boat, like the heating breaking down and the boat listing to one side slightly (nothing to do with my weight, I hasten to add)I could definitely live on one full time, although the other half isnt so sure . I have a year (hopefully less) to try and talk her around, as we need to save a bit of money first
  3. Thanks TimD, yes I had thought about the layout of the hire boats, and agree that maybe they are not best suited as live aboards
  4. Its certainly worth asking, thanks Roger
  5. Thanks for advice, i hadnt even thought about the insurance side of things. I was looking into buying a second hand boat in the 1st place, and I can see your point about the resale value if we do decide to go down that road Thanks MJG, I contacted the hire company we are using in Feb about renting long term but said they wouldnt give us discount, due to the fact that they would lose money as all of their fleet is hired out most of the year, which I could see their point. I will try other hire companies to see what they can offer
  6. I want to find out if living afloat is the life for me and my partner, but rather than risk spending a few grand on a narrow boat and then finding out its not for us, I was wandering if there was any way we could rent a boat for 6 months or so? I have booked a narrowboat holiday for 4 nights at the end of Feb, but I dont feel that would be long enough to get a real picture or feel for the life.
  7. Hi my name is Bryn. I do not currently own a boat, but have always fancied living on the water, so have just took my 1st step into making it a reality. I have booked a hire boat for 4 nights at the end of Feb, to get a small taste of life afloat. My partner, the mother in law and I will be travelling from Gayton to Braunston, so you never know, i might bump into one or two people from the forum (hopefully not literally)
