  1. Thanx sir nibble, glad I held off from buying one this weekend. Isnt getting hold of and fitting a bigger pulley a big affair compared to another alternater. thanx nick
  2. The engine alternater drive pulley is 6 and a half inch diameter, is this small or large would the alternater recomended be ok or is a special one required many thanx
  3. Many thanx for all reply, I truly appreciate all help given. I have .......1) charged battery 2) connected light between ignition and alternater. 3) drawn engine room wiring diagram. 4) taken photos of alternate. I have started engine and the light has remained on, at high and low revs. Ive checked all wiring and connectors can i just say that what appears to be a black cable on the alternate is the thicker red cable going to the battery live. Many thanx nick p.s im off to the boat in a minut e and will get a measurement for pully on cam shaft regards
  4. Thanx for all the replys, I've been thinking about this since last night, I was even wundering weather it has ever worked and the wiring had been wrong from day 1 . Im pretty sure this is what i have apart from the bulb. I have just the cable from the 12 v ignition to the alternater, this would work wouldn't it. Im of down boat in a mo and will retrieve battery to charge them, I think my wiring is right but to be honest I just don't know, Iwill run through your advice richard once batterys are charged thanx all
  5. I am not down the boat at the moment but if my memory is correct the alternater supply feed is from the ignition which in turn is connected to starter battery so its only engaged whilst the key is turned. Im going back down tommorow so will check all connections. thanx for replying
  6. I dont have any warning lights just the basics, and the revs I have had at tickover and full pelt , i have tested at the alternate itself which is the same as the starter 11.69. So if it doesn't matter weather itst under load or not it would appear to be finished. When it was working, it would charge at about 14 , I thought this was good , perhaps it wasn't good and maybe that is why it is broken. What should I replace it with, something I can buy of the shelf at autoparts. Thanx for replys nick
  7. Hi. both the leisure battery and starter on my boat haven't been charging. I have checked with the multi meter, the leisure is 10.18 the starter is 11.69/ this reading states the same weather the engine is running at fast speed or tickoverr or not running at all ( whilst moored). I am thinking the alternater is finished and I need to replace it,however I can't help thinking that if I take the boat out and put the engine under pressure this may cick the alternate into action. Does it matter if the engine is under load to make the alternater to work /surely its just rpm that matters. I have a lister SR2 . if i do need to replace what type would be best a type that works on low rpm regards nick
  8. I often don't make sence but if I can explain it might. On page 37 of the manual it says "The speeder spring must not exert any force when the engine is idling." I thought the speeder spring was exerting a force that was meant to be absorbed by the idling spring whilst the engine is idling. Also a while ago I tightened the trunnion on the lever that pulls the rod to improve the engine speed whilst idling. I've just got back from the boat . I've removed the lever to check that the rod is moving freely, then put lever back and then slackened the trunnion on the lever, started her up and as expected she ran a lot slower barely running at all . I Interpret this as the speeder spring was to tight and the idling control sleeve was to slack. but i can't find the idling control adjusting sleeve pt no 204-21480 it or the idling control nut , all i can see is two shackles with a threaded rod connected to one of them and the spring. This all brings me back around to my original post. regards nick
  9. Sounds very similar, Ive been tinkering with the control but no undue pressure here . I do think the controls need sorting but will leave that until last. You know what Tony, I think you may have hit the nail as it seems as though the spindle isn't extending,if I unhook the lever and undo the trunnion the spindle extends a lot further which makes me think that I alter the position of the trunnion. At the moment the trunnion is wound all the way up, which I think is putting undue pressure on the speeder spring (not good I think). I'm quite sure its not slow to pick up revs and there isn't any black smoke when in high revs just a bluey grey smoke which can hardly be seen unless it catches the sunlight. Ive never heard of a hand held rev counter so I will do the check in and out of gear. I'm going to pop down the boat now , move the trunnion , mess with the lever and see what happens. thank you very much Tony,I really appreciate your help and also your offer, right I'm off now , be in touch later. regards nick
  10. Hi Tony, I don't think she is slow to increase but I have nothing to compare to so I wouldn't know. She;s like a tiger in a cage, waiting to run freely, When I next go out I will test to see if there is a difference in revs in and out of gear. If there was what would that mean . many thank
  11. Many thank yous for that info. This has had me scratching my head for the last couple of weeks .The reason for asking is the river is running faster so I Was hoping to squeeze a bit more power out of her, however you have made me realise that speed and power are perhaps slightly different. If I wanted to gain more power out of her would that be possible. I Thought that a bit of tweaking here and there would achieve my goal of gaining a bit more oomph. When i'm holding the throttle down, it resists and the revs go down so I sit on top of the cabin and rest my foot on throttle which keeps the revs up, so this why I ask. She feels like she has more to give , if you know what I mean. I Really enjoy learning how this engine works and so I thank you for your help
  12. Hello, I have an SR2 that is in my boat Flowers. I am attempting to follow the instructions for adjusting speed control on page 17 of the Instruction manual and parts list.I am however finding it rather difficult as I can't locate items 7-12 page 120 plate 16.When I open the fuel pump housing door I see the two pumps with fuel linkage in-between(item A page 31), I am confused, if I alter the spring here it un-callibrates the fuel pumps. Am I looking in the wrong place, or right place but misunderstanding. My engine has always been sluggish and what with winter coming it would be good if I could squeeze a bit more power. regards Nick
  13. Nice one sleigh, spooky indeedy i know the filter you are talking of,I will check in the morning, I have a good feeling about this. many thanx Nick
  14. Hi keith, this is a new installation that has been on-going for a while ,so no it has never worked properly but everthing was new so assume its an issue created by myself. Before I repositioned the pump ,the hot and cold worked in the kitchen sink and so did the boiler but it didnt have a lot of pressure so I was advised to move the pump nearer to the water tank which is at the front of my boat(I wanted more pressure for my shower) which has resulted in my current issue. There is quite a delay in the pump working as I have moved the pump about 5 metres further away fom the battery, could lack of electricity be the issue regards
  15. Hello, My water isnt working, when i turn on the cold tap water comes out as it should, but when i turn on the hot tap the water comes on and off as well as the boiler igniting and disigniting. The shower cold works but the hot water is cold as the burner is not igniting I have a shurfo aquaking 30psi an accumalator and a morso burner. At first I positioned the pump near the boiler but was not getting sufficient pressure, so I moved the pump nearer to the water tank but further from the boiler, this should have increased the pressure but has appeared to diminish it. Can I increase the pressure on the pump if this is the correct diagnosis thanx for reading Nick
