We set off west on Friday afternoon and out for 10 days so we'll see where we end up but don't think we'll reach Salterforth (well the Anchor) until Monday ish
and definitely won't reach Wigan this time out

We'd help you but we're only going as far as Barrowford next week, if Barrowford Locks are repaired
I'd have thought there'll be several boats coming your way Jonathan, I know of a couple that are up there waiting, Have a good trip (you could always come to Yorkshire for a week)

Ok....I KNOW you guys are trying to keep the southern boaters away from the northern canals, but you I cant keep quiet about this any longer.....the L&L is heaven on earth ChrisT.....wonderful to meet you, although very briefly...but your words are so true.....this bit is the best in the country....pics cant even do it justice....you just have to experience it...I even HAD to slow myself to tickover and take it all in...the rolling hills...the sheep on every hill....the greenery......I'm in love. The L&L has safely taken the lead in best canals I've ever been on......AMAZING!
I'll add some pics to this post shortly
Will you stop going on about it !!!!, we're trying to keep it a secret ,
Having said that, where are you ? it's your round .

Should i be concerned ? Ironic - UK suffers from another drought ? What does one do when your holiday is jeopodised due to NO RAIN ?
A few years ago we had the same problem but worse, the locks were all closed around this area and the hire boats were moved to areas not affected by the drought so don't worry too much.
Having said that we were out on the top pound a few weeks ago and it was full to the brim but now the area around our mooring is definitely lower than it as been for a while, a couple of weeks of sun and looks what happens.

Thanks all for the positive responses, Looks a definite then ! I have read of the great gathering of all 6 surviving A4's , sadly i wont be there till late September, but still intend to visit. one other Question , Am i safe to leave my hire boat on the canal around keighley/Shipley for the day ? I asume its able to be secured .
There should be no problem with leaving your hire boat where ever you want to catch your train from. The easiest and nearest are Skipton, Silsden, Bingley, Saltaire and Shipley, all safe and all within walking distance to the train station for Leeds.

I think you should go Jonathan you're nearer than us and let us all know how it goes

I'm biased but I'd come back over the L & L, I don't know if you've been this way before but if not you'll definitely
want to come back this way.
And yes we'll wave when you pass our mooring.

Last time we came this way we moored at Dover Lock which was quite a pleasant mooring, then 2 locks to do on the Leigh branch and then up the Wigan 21, we were told we'd meet up with other boats going the same way but ended up doing all 23 by ourselves with no sign of any other boats all day.
Apart from Blackburn and Burnley there's no problems with mooring anywhere until you reach the outskirts of Leeds

We looked there about 18months ago, we didn't buy anything but that was because the right boat for us wasn't there but
they did seem a nice bunch, very helpful and showed us round several boats.

It's unlikely that your generator heats the water.
It depends on what sort of gennie you've got, I've a whispergen which does heat the water, we need more info please.

Hi, I've one that I made up myself, I had to cut the tiller arm at the right place and then attached the hinge, you can either throw away the part that you're replacing or make the arm longer, I bought mine from Puffer Parts at Keighley.
It's not a difficult job to do.

Got an email from Waterscape this morning saying that Bridge 176 Gawflat swingbridge (better known as Aireville Park Bridge) is closed after being hit yesterday by a boat, update on Friday 31st May,
I came through yesterday at about 12 o'clock and honest it wasn't me !

We have a Whispergen onboard, it was on the boat when we bought it, it's briiliant, runs off diesel, very quiet, charges the batteries, heats the water and runs the central heating, BUT costs a fortune in spare parts / repair and very very expensive to buy / fit
If I didn't have one on the boat when we bought it then I'd struggle to justify paying the asking price for it.

My only problem was SWMBO, we reached Selby fine a few Augusts ago, she looked at the Ouse and said no way !!!
It was in flood, a mucky orange colour with trees floating down past Selby lock so unfortunately we turned round and came
back, still a great trip though.
