In deed that was the one and I felt a dipstick for not working it out that that would be the dip stick so obvious now.

Thanks for the reply Tony but I really don't think I have a gearbox issue apart from I have a very odd Italian box that does have a 2-1 ratio. My thoughts on the box were more to do with the shaft being stiff causing drag but this is not the case. Hi Bizzard, if it is on 1 then it has been that way since I got it. the engine starts very well and ticks over nicely, not sure what impact a dead cylinder would have on running other than the obvious lack of power which I believe are your thoughts.

I will do your testing in the week Bizzard and report back if there is a injector down would I not be best just getting some recond injectors and fitting them to bring it back to how it should be.

    SR2 smoking

I have read these last few posts several times and the conclusion I have come to is that I am quite thick are we trying to establish that an engine will not accelerate if the load on it is to great. The prop size was worked out by Crowthers and confirmed by a couple of guys on here I was sure that bit was right.

All filters are new this problem has been there all the time I have had it. I think Bizard has some reconed injectors I think that must be where I start on this one.

Could anyone shed any light on my problem, my SR2 seems to rev to max no problem when off load but when in gear it seems to struggle and give off alot of black smoke and does not seem to have much power at all. The prop shaft runs very free with no binding, I have changed all fuel filters and fuel line it has a new fuel pump and air filter, any thoughts anyone cheers, Ian.

Now your just being polite, yes I did sort the prop out I got a 17 x 12 left hand spent a day down the weed hatch and got it fitted a very satisfying (can't spell) result many thanks.

What you like Mr Bizzard saying I have a pile of crap, I will have you know it has a full guard over the fly wheel end! but to be honest you are perfectly right in your observations, but its my pile of crap and it keeps me out of the pub. As always much appreciate your advice cheers, Ian.

Hi Bizzard yes you are right it was not there but I do have a very large ducting that goes from the engine to a vent hole in the side of the boat, looks very industrial. How much do you need to remove to clean the cooling fins Proper Job and will an air gun blast it out? Sorry if I am treading on anybodys thread but it seemed a good place to ask.
  11. Did cleaning the air fins cure your overheating problem?

How do you stop an air cooled lister from over heating in the bottom of a boat please?
  13. Thanks all, from this I hope I am right in saying the further the boat is in the water the stabler it is.
  14. The reason I ask is I have removed the very large poo tank from the front which made it stand very high at the front so I removed several large pieces of steel from the engine room, this leveled it nearly but I thought it now seems to rock from side to side much more.
  15. I bet your physics aren't as rusty as my boat but I think I get your drift, I was on the right lines.
  16. This might be a stupid question but here goes, why do they ballast the boat is it to put so much under water to make it more stable or some other reason. If I am right how deep should it be?

That all makes sense to me, can't wait to get the proper prop and see what she can do thanks to all for help with this one I have many more to come.
  18. Just a thought but are you sure the pump is pumping what you describe is no circulation problems, you may hear the pump running but is it circulating.

Right Mr Bizzard I have followed your instructions all apart from the gloves so my left hand is now in shreds and result is, the starter ring turns one revolution for one revolution of the prop shaft does that make it 2-1 please say yes cheers, Ian.

Cheers Bizzard will give that a go with everything crossed that it works out like that as thats what I have ordered.

Got the engine running now, the alternator runs anti clockwise as viewed from behind it. Does that mean the camshaft runs anti-clock and the engine runs clock-wise. The prop thats on is a right hand and when i put it in forward it goes backwards, I cant work out how fast the shaft is turning to the engine but my question is how much differant would the prop be between a 2-1 reduction and a 1-1. I have been told I need a 17-12 if its 2-1 cheers, Ian.

    Gearbox

If you straddle the prop shaft and look to the sharp end the prop shaft turns anti clockwise

From what I can summise is its direct drive and turns anti- clockwise. (wish I could spell)
