You have a choice - just as you can buy a house without mains water, mains sewage, mains gas or mains electricity

I was pointing out that the statement that residential moorings come with electric as was suggested is not always true

It is no problem for me not having it as I have been used to charging my batteries using my boat systems as I have for the last 20 years

People living on boats without residential planning permission are exploiting a loophole which may at any time get closed.

If you live on a mooring with residential PP there will be an electric supply and it is possible, although expensive, to heat boats with electric radiators.

Oil or gas (expensive) can provide the extra.

I'm quite interested in exploring the mains gas supply option for a residential mooring. That could be intriguing.

I still prefer burning road cones and old tyres on my stove though ;)

And best of all damp wood because of lasts longer !

I have a residential mooring and there is no electricity points from crt

I usually get looks of contempt when I'm emptying there, or filling with water. The looks tend to be more contemptuous when I've left the engine running, which I normally do as I run the washing machine when taking on water.

Anyway, would be very interested what the actual reason for temp closure is.

If it's removal of the facility that will be a real bugger as the next pump out isn't until Cow Roast when heading south.

There is a sign on the block advising engines off while using the facilities.

  4. not sure if I am a bit late to the party on this, but my friend had some box cushions done by mooch customs and they were really happy with them. I know they were done in marine grade vinyl, so they are waterproof.

not very good with links, but if you look for mooch customs on facebook and Instagram you will find her. Seems to be based in the Aylesbury area.

  5. Afternoon all, been having a problem with the izusu engine in my boat

Looks like the head gasket has split, lots of pressure in the header tank, but no mayo on cap so think it has gone between the water jacket and piston

Does anyone know a good supplier of head gasket kits, think i need new stretch bolts as well

    Kind regards

I have owned my own boat for a number of years and done many miles on the cut. Last week a friend of mine wanted to hire a day boat for his 50th birthday and he asked me to come along to help steer the boat. I have passed many day boats in my time and always say hello. Of course some of them are just learning how to control the boat. Like I say I have done many miles in my own boat, and I cannot believe the comments and dam right nastiness of some boat owners. There are one that appear to deliberately go out of the way to force me into the side. The ones that scowl at you on the amount of people who told me to slow down when I was on tick over, leads me to believe that some of the boating community are nothing but  unsociable. Some of these people need to look at themselves first. Like the one who made a comment, and his liecence on his boat had expired six months ago. Some strange people on the cut.

Yep similar tale a couple of weeks ago, been boating/liveaboard for 16 years and the mother in law wanted to take the whole family (ten people) out so we also deceided it was far simpler to hire a day boat

Going passed two moored boats, one a widebeam, and i spot a narrowboat coming towards us. I really thought he would slow down but he went for it, and according to my passengers actually revved up when he saw us

By now i reliase he is going to come through so i have got the boat into the off side bank/hedge (very overgrown offside) and stopped it, using the tiller to stop the stern from drifting back out

With about 2 inches to spare he comes through announcing "bet that was a baptism of fire for you hirers" to much amusement of himself and his crew, to which i explained that i had quite a lot of boating experience and was surprised he chose to do that manovure if he was so sure we had no knowledge of steering a boat

Funny thing was when he sailed passed me at my mooring about 4 hours later where all of a sudden he was very interested in the foliage on the opposite bank

    People are funny things

  7. The bins at the service point are not for the houses, they are behind the locked door to the right if you are facing the elsen but there are more at Red Lion Bridge, the houses have the little black sheds between the services and the houses

the elsen was never finished properley. i understand they are now finally putting tiles on the walls rather than just the painted blockwork

The legs supporting the elsen keep moving and dont look to be properly fixed, the pipe got loose a couple of times

Because they put a steel grate for a door the floor gets flooded in the rain, which most people think is not rain

There have been issues with the houses but i believe these are mainly sorted now, to be honest i have never had a problem with any of them and nearly always have a chat with them when watering up. The services were there for many years before the houses, what i fail to see is why their surveyors (sic) didnt pick up it was there when they were buying

You do have to switch your engine off while using the facilties these days and the 3 bins do get full very quickly

  8. had a quick look this morning from the other side of the canal and there are 4 rings between the end of the new houses upto the old BW office past the crane, i was running a bit late this morning so will have a closer look at the weekend

That does leave a gap infront of 3 of the houses but with their decking the walkway is quite small

Must of happened when i was away for a few weeks but at least it has happened

  9. I'll double check tonight when i get home

the 3 rings in front of the elsen were never removed

A fellow boater has had a look this morning. The chains have not been replaced but there are rings in front of the services enabling one boat to moor to use them. There are no rings behind so no queuing however about 20M further back there are rings in front of the old crane enabling a bat to wait there if they were aware of them.

I dont recall there ever being rings by the crane but there used to be chains

Will check on that as well

I think I may well have been moored up next to the no longer present "No Mooring" sign when I took this one though.

    Chalice_Opposite_Marsworth_Yard.jpg

It all looks very different now, of course!

Yep thats the spot, the big bollard on this side is pretty much in the middle of the no mooring zone

  10. The cut mooring chains at the facilities block is a quite different matter. These were removed at the request of the name already mentioned, who is a BW property man. The local waterways manager, Vicky Martin, objected strongly, and undertook they would be reinstated. She is very unhappy they have not been, and the topic is regularly raised at meetings I attend. I know she continues to try to get this corrected, and I'm sure ultimately she will succeed. You would think it would be easy, but the current organisation structure of CRT seems to say otherwise.

Glad that this situation is still being pushed Alan, please keep us updated or let us know if we can help in anyway

  11. Its the only place to wait to use the service block as there is only room for one boat at a time by the services otherwise boats end up in front of the houses. So i guess it means no mooring but you can wait your turn.

    attachicon.gifDSCF1556.JPG

The area referred to is on the left. I am moored as far forward as possible to the bridge and at 58foot am still in front of the houses which in this section have the bedrooms downstairs.

There has been complaints from residents about boats being moored in front of houses on the service side. Personally i have no sympathy as the situation was plain to see as they prepared to buy a house.

Boats are allowed to wait on the house side all the way up to the old BW building on the corner, that is not disputed with the houses or the plans or CRT, but they do want engines off while your there hence the new sign CRT put up which i think is fair enough

Adrian Hugall Johnson (sic?) of CRT authorised the old chains to be cut out as he didnt apprently know what they were for and agreed some months ago that they would be put back, i believe it was in towpath talk as well, it still hasnt been done and he certainly will not respond to emails

  12. It was all set out in the outcome of the Marsworth Moorings "consultation" debacle. As Loddon says, this is just back to the status prevailing some years ago. There used to be a no mooring but fishing permitted stretch from the bridge to about the junction signpost but the rest of the bank on both sides below Maffers bottom lock was a No Fishing zone, with casual and allocated mooring spaces.

All this was established yonks ago by (IIRC) Caroline Clark as the local waterway manager after much argy bargy about bait all over moored boats.

    N

Didnt know that it was agreed in previous consultation but wasnt privy to it, dont suppose you have a link to any documents about this as i dont think anyone on the moorings knows about this, but there is a liveaboard who has been there for a very long time so might have a quick chat with him as he might remember

TBH i've been passing through this area for 15 years and never noticed no mooring signs there in the past especially with the big bollard on that side about 1/2 way down this section

Do wish that someone would do something about the fishing between boats in the allocated mooring sections, nearly every night we have a couple, local fishing warden says it is nothing to do with him and CRT will not do anything and it is quite annoying finding rods resting on your front and rear fenders, or our personall favorite fishing right infront of the no fishing signs

  13. Hi not been able to get to CRT yet but i hardly ever get any response from them and just get pushed from pillar to post

I dont believe this was lead by the houses as they actually wanted the fishing rights moved from opposite their houses but this was declined by CRT and the local anglers group

but it does have the nice effect for them of no boats opposite so no engines or gennies,

by the way of you dont know there is a small sign on the facilities block advising to turn engines off while filling, problem is it is quite small and this is not something anyone has ever had to do before the houses so boats who are passing through the area often dont see the sign and this is leading to a little, shall we say, tension

  14. Walking back to my mooring last night and caught a new sign out of the corner of my eye

it would appear that a section of moorings have been removed, about 100 - 120 foot, and only fisherman are allowed there now

Are there any other areas with such signage, they do look official as new posts have been concreated in and logos etc

This is in Marsworth opposite the facitlies block

Fisherman have always been limited to the area between the elson bridge and the aylesbury arm, and had to be shared with the boats. This area is now fisherman only

This is also the area that only recently CRT said that there were issues with mooring spaces and proposed reducing to 48 hours but now there is so much room that they can reduce the available mooring space

We on the moorings were not told of this change, and in all fairness makes no change to our cirumstances expect that as the chains that were removed have still not been put back and some boaters were waiting on that side as there is a bollard to tie to
