Thanks Slammer! Thanks Slammer!
-
Yes Martin - going to head up tomorrow as now we have the immersion on electric we'll be using that quite a bit now while we're on shoreline and not cc'ing Thanks again!
-
Thanks guys! Water pump still needs....erm....attention!
-
Hi Guys OK, so we bled the fuel filter and there was air in it - started the engine and hurray! It works!!!! We're still of course going to change the fuel filter but just so, so pleased we got it going. Its been going about half hour now so definately on my way to having some hot water. Thanks to all you guys who helped - you really did, and if nothing else gave me a boost of morale at a very low point! We're still going to hook up the calorifier to 240v just incase and might even probably use that rathetr than having the engine on to heat the water. If nothing else, all this has taught me a bit more about my engine (and what level to fill the oil up to! Ha!) and also made me find out about being able to hook up the calorifier to 240v. Thanks again guys - was really great the amount of replies that were on here. Lewis

when i said all wired up, i meant that there's the facility there and the immersion is already in place, just needs the plug on it. might give this a go tomorrow if our engine still aint working !
-
Exactly - thats what I thought too -and yes they are wired up ready to go, the red cap on the top if you flick it open is has the connections as per the diagram in the PDF - might give it a go tomorrow - see if I can break that too while I'm at it My calorifier isnt' in my bathroom Domonic - its in the engine room as its fed from the coolant from the engine at the moment to heat up. Im thinkin of hookin it up electrically though simply because my engine is knackered at the minute! Smelly - do you know if for sure, you can attach a 3 pin plug to this?
-
Hi guys, As you'll know from my other post - my engine has gone so no hot water as I have a calorifier - quick question though..... can Surecal calorifiers be hooked up on their immersion using a 3 pin plug? Just been looking online at their installation guide which gives a bit more detail than what actually came with the calorifier: http://www.surejust.co.uk/PDF/connections.pdf Just thinking it would be a good idea to hvae a back up incase of engine problems again in future.
-
Yep ive been doing that overnight etc. Bloody thing
-
Thanks smelly - with the drama of today ive not had chance to check the pump but it is still coming on and off
-
Thanks Nick -useful info there, I'll keep it to hand when we have anothr bash at it tomorrow!
-
Thanks chris, im going to give this a go tomorrow and I'll post updates.
-
Thanks Chris - to be honest I was thinking along these lines myself after reading the troubleshooting etc in the Beta online manual. Id given up tonight as its too dark down there even with a torch , plus when the fitter installed it, the way it's positioned means I have to take some of the surrounding floor/woodwork out to get to that bleed screw! Oh and yep, I do know where the alternators are - all hope isn't lost! EDIT IN RESPONSE OF C PINK:I didnt open the screw Chris no. I just tried the priming pump until i realised re-reading the beta manual that i also have to open the bleed screw too - guessing nothing WILL come out til I open that screw up will it?
-
Ive had that beta manual up today Quo - trying to find all the bits and pieces and trying to find everything thats in the pics! ive located the filters now, but as I said I just cant get it off (which is probably a good job anyway, as I havent got one to replace it with yet) Going back to my comment about it being a "crunching" noise, that was mostly when it was on yesterday. It was running normally, and then started to make a lot more of a noise than just the usual revs. Now its just not firing, it'll start but not fire into full ignition. Give it four or five attempts and it does fire into full igntion - but then you hear the revs slowing down and it completely cuts out now. Iain - thanks - ive tried pumping the primer on top of the fuel filter, as suggested in the manual and by another user here on CW. However, i'm not getting the fuel coming out of the top of it ...all I do hear when I pump it up and down is a trickling noise from somwhere (cant figure out where its coming from?)
-
Yes Harry - that's right. For those who are interested, i've got a Beta marina 38HP, 2006. Minos- Not really interested in your comments so don't feel the need to comment again as I don't really give a shit about your opinions on whether im a troll or how experienced/inexperienced I am when it comes to engines and I'm sure no one else does either.
-
harry neil - do you know what it could be then with your experience? Its starting but just not firing. It was working fine until last night when it made this much louder noise and i just turned it off assuming i was running low on diesel (we were) Topped up with diesel today, and its starting but not firing. Sometimes it does fire and the revs seem to be getting more in tempo to the normal sound of the engine, then they'll slow right down again and the engine will collapse and the oil lamp will come back on, bleeping. Can you advise or think of anything these guys may have not mentioned? Athy no im not, but how much do they usually charge for things (they have a call out fee i take it?) Just not sure the pennies can spread that far and would like to resolve myself if possible
-
so i should just get a new fuel filter and do nothing until ive got that??
-
No Lone i havent' - wanted to just take the first one off and see if i can maybe give it a bit of a quick clean - as i dont have any new ones to hand so will have to order them in - really need the engine on as it works my calorifier so no hot water until then ;(
-
just tried pumping that lever on the fuel filter as jim batty said - any particular amount of time i should do that for though as i got no fuel coming out of the top of the screw. Prob did this for a good minute or two. However after a while it did sound like there was some sloshing around somewhere but cant guess where thats coming from?? (could it be the diesel not being able to get thru the fuel line to the filted and draining back into the fuel tank???)
-
Not really sure I like the tone in that..... i think I'm far from a troll on here since I've been commenting/posting for a few months now. Also because I don't have any knowledge about engines and oil that also makes me a troll does it???? Yep, my key snapped in the lock like a crisp the other night, and luckily the neighbour on the other boat has a beta 38, 2006 so has the same key. Can't understand why that would be so comical or why it would be considered "far fetched?" I didn't think it was the oil level specifically - just thought that could be a factor. After noticing the 2 notches on the dipstick though - the oil level is within normal levels so haven't changed the oil or anything yet. Thanks to those who have actually offered help and advise. I managed to find the filters but for some reason I cannot get it off. I've had 2 of the neighbours try and help too and they cant get it off either- really screwed on tight so haven't a clue how we're gonna get it off at all Really not a happy bunny this evening at all. Im in the manchester area if anyone knows of someone that might be able to help and be more qualified than us lot round here !
-
if it's now inside my engine.....does it now mean that my engine is knackered?! Oh god please no! Still trying to locate filters, my complete lack of knowledge, even using the pics and the fact its dark isn't helping me locate them!
-
Not checked the filters yet, as yes I am a complete novice and have no idea about anything engine-related! Im in an area where there's no one really like boat builders/fitters/engine people (that I know of!) so I'm still trying to find the filters and looking thru the Beta manual online! Oh I'm having fun! The dipstick shows about half inch of oil. Top up im guessing?
-
It started and seemed to be keeping the same "tempo" as what it used to, then it started slowing down again and now won't "ignite" at all. The oil alarm then started bleeping (like it does when you switch the ignition to "heat" ) When we opened the oil cap it looks empty - im guessing it shouldnt look empty? So guessing we need a top up of oil too - but do we just fill all the way to the top??????
-
just got some ordinary bloody diesel, topped up, will give half hour or so for the shit to settle and the try again..... will post updates....again! lol
-
Thanks guys we'll try adding a few litres of diesel, got a jerry can so will head off to fill up - ordinary diesel from a garage is ok isn't it? We're no where near anywhere that has red diesel?
-
We dipped the tank this morning and there's there was about an inch of diesel showing on the piece of wood we used. Too little?
