Does anyone have double glazing that's NOT thermal break?
I understand the technical definition of thermal break windows, I'm wondering what the actual difference is in terms of condensation performance in portholes.
I'm having an issue with my boat builder being able to get thermal break windows to coincide with my build date and they're offering non-thermal break as an alternative.

Sorry, I should have also clarified, that it wasn't the standard CRT licence disc either - just square white paper with the boat name and number on - no CRT logo, barcode etc. Unless CRT have changed their design?

A friend is looking at purchasing a boat - hasn't viewed it yet - but has received info re the license. Number starts with a "7".
I thought all CRT licenses began with a '5' and it's also not a Bridgewater license - 5 digits in total. Could it be a boat that was originally up in Scotland perhaps? Maybe Ireland?

Hi All
Just wondering if BSS guidance has changed in regard to having woodburners in bedrooms. Are they 'allowed'? I'm thinking of installing the mini pipsqueak in the bedroom of a new-build narrowboat, and am guessing that woodburners are okay to have, as boatman's cabins have them in and they also have bed/furniture in and around them?

Haha, love it. I do like it like the tropics and adequate heating for potential damp/condensation elimination is always at the forefront of my mind too. (Yes, yes, open windows, I know, I know).
Seriously considering going down the fan/hot air diesel system for the back cabin as well as a miniature wood burner - at least I'll then have options - and the hot air diesel systems seem to be more economical than a full wet Webasto system

AFAIK, there is no timescale announced for the complete cessation of diesel as a fuel, and the way these things work, we will still be using it and squabbling about when to ban it in another 30 years I predict.
The intention is already in what they're doing with the manipulation of prices... And it is manipulation/creation of inflated prices... But trying not to get political here!
I'm more interested in if people think it's worth forfeiting the likes of Webasto in a new build based on the fact that the majority of us plebs are unlikely to be running it in the near future if costs really do continue escalating way out of control. I can't see prices going back down?

Better make sure your new boat has space for a huuuuuge stack of batteries, and hope that electric charging points are rolled out across the network.

Would you bother installing a Webasto diesel central heating system with the way diesel prices are going, plus the intention to completely can diesel, anyway, in the next 10 years? Is it worth the cost of the unit/fitting costs?
Perhaps something more like the cheap 'Chinese' diesel blow heaters which seem relatively easy to fit and you can get at around £120 on Amazon is a better alternative? With an additional (pipsqueak) wood burner in the back cabin/Bedroom?

Does anyone have any insight into the reliability of Barrus Shire engines? I've only had experience with Beta and CanalLine engines before?
Are they reliable? Expensive parts? Anything that I should be concerned about in advance (it'll be a new Barrus shire)

If no significant changes have been made though, surely a PCA doesn't need to be completed? If everything matches up with the services and equipment fitted in the boat owners' manual? Or is there something I'm missing here?

Nothing was done though other than installing a sink in the bathroom? All gas etc., was fitted at the time of the boat build and the Annex IV is provided in the boat builder's "user manual"

Can you elaborate on this. Which documentation is 'required' for it to be classed as "conforming?

If a boat built in 2018 has an "Annex IV Declaration of Conformity", does that mean that the boat can go on the open market for sale without any problems? Is the boat 'covered' from an RCD perspective? Or would a surveyor have reservations with it not being within the 5-year time period?
Boat was fitted out with kitchens, engines, webasto, woodburning stove, gas, BSS issued etc., but not 'complete' in the sense of under the paperwork with the boat builder it was classed as still a sailaway lined? It is CE marked, hull ID number etc and the Declaration of Conformity

If the boat was 7ft 6 could that pass through Croxton Aqueduct?

Just out of interest, where could you go on an 8ft wide narrowboat? I believe the Cheshire Ring in its entirety is possible as the 9ft pioneer boats can get through bridges/tunnels around Preston Brook area?

Been having an issue with my Websasto Thermotop unit since yesterday. All was working fine in the morning. Then noticed later in the afternoon when I had it on that there was a changing in intonation in the motor and the unit would cut out/switch off after anywhere from 15 minutes to just over 40 minutes at best.
Today I have cleaned the filter and refitted and also topped up my header tank.
Unit is still doing the same thing, booting up, I can hear the 'tick tick tick' of the diesel but it doesn't sound like it's going into full throttle. To add to that, there is faint black smoke coming from the exhaust and all other posts I see on here seem to relate to black smoke.
Also, cannot seem to find anyone who would service in the Manchester area. The few I've tried don't offer mobile servicing, merely, servicing where you drop the unit to them - not ideal!!!
Any ideas why I might be getting grey/black smoke?

Thanks Bengo, that's a relief to know.
Not sure what to do re generator/Victron. Gennie is only borrowed and I bloody hate the things so hoping it's going to be only temporary while alternator is fixed. The probs I've had charging with them and then the impracticality of getting petrol for them when I don't drive either, makes it more hassle than anything else...
Will check the Victron article/blog out too. Annoying that the settings on 'manual' in the sense that you can just change them on the box without needing to order/pay for/have delivered software, cables etc. The world has gone nuts!

I'm just concerned about having a 'manual' battery charger connected to the batts and on as well as the inverter/charger. Voltage definitely isn't going above14.6 at the very most but apparently too many charging amps can also damage a battery? So worried with, technically, two chargers on, if this could be an issue. I have got the other, manual one on the minimum setting of 3amps though.

Thought I'd give a quick update. It's not good
Seems to be very temperamental using the method of plugging something into genny and then switching box in. Sometimes works first time, other times, like this morning, it's taken me half an hour keep doing the same thing.... box shows bulk charging mode, then trips and box turns itself off. Start again... I'm incredibly frustrated.
Best method I've found is having the external battery charger switch on too, at the same time as then putting the inverter charger on, but even that's been hit and miss and I'm worried I could a) damage my Victron or b) be damaging my batteries somehow. Is this possible?
When i do then get it up and running, it's charging fine at a nice voltage, but will often trip again, usually around the one hour mark. Incredibly frustrating and depressing having to manage a charging regime like this when this is all actually CanalLine's crappy parts (this is an alternator that was replaced in August, and has blown already, but that's a separate issue for on here)

I don't understand the concept of 'less condensation' though which I keep hearing as surely with all double glazing condensation is eliminated anyway due to it being... double glazed?
