  1. Wow every body's going mad that must be the longest word in the world,- Or is it?
  2. I know it’s a bit premature to be thinking of this but as I’m going into hospital in ‘September/October’ and will be immobilized for 3 months I want to be well Prepared for an early winter! So I could do with a few questions answering please.  How can I tell the strength of my antifreeze?  I’ve heard somewhere antifreeze doesn’t act as a coolant! If this is so is it possible to have it to strong and consequently over heat your engine?  Is antifreeze OK for my domestic heating, (multifuel stove with back boiler gravity fed)?.  Should I have to remove my water pump completely?  Can anyone think of any other essentials? I look forward to your comments and would be grateful for any further advice.
  3. Like most things in life it generally comes down to finance a decision only you can make, you know in your heart of hearts which gives the best results but can you afford it? Another view is you don’t spoil the ship for a hapenuth of tar It would be interesting to find the cost difference of letter per letter between the two methods
  4. Hi Blodger , thanks for that ‘info’ I was half suspecting I’d hear something like that, as you can probably guess I’m not over confident on the electrics side of things, and to be quite honest with you, I asked at my local boat yard and was given those two options, it makes one doubtful of who you should trust. I know your advise is right, and I should sort it out before spending any money, I only wish the yard could have given me the same advise as now my confidence in them has gone down somewhat! (are they just after my money) Guess I’ll have to buy a voltmeter like you suggest but I’ve not got a clue where to stick the wires to test anything and I’m concerned about causing any damage to the electrics. Thanks again jonny.
  5. Sorry Gents I didn’t mean to give the impression I’m anti social I’m not. I do try and moor away from others though but thats because we have a dog! And times weren’t ment to be taken literally but as an example to my problem
  6. When I’ve been cruising for 5 or 6 hours and stop for the night like most of us! on goes the telly, the dedicated 12v fridge has been on whilst cruising so to conserve power I switch it off,(on going battle with the missus) we watch the box till about 9pm then I decide to run the engine (fast tick over) and switch on the fridge for an hour to keep it cool for the night, then the warning light starts flashing at me, if I switch the telly off everything’s OK but surely the telly doesn’t use that much power does it? Is the answer to get an alternator to battery charger? (Iv’e heard they can cause problems) Or change the 70amp alternator to 80amp? I’ve a bank of 3 110amp for domestic approx 4 years old the ‘SG’ seems fair any suggestions welcome!
  7. Dor messages are up and running thanks for your help
  8. This mooring is at Chillington Wharf if any one Knows it then they wouldnt bother to suggest a shovel and waders there must be thousands of tons to movean impossible task for one man and if you fell over you'd be brown bread!.
  9. Hi Dor, hope you see this message .I know you replied to my Email but I can’t seem to get the message! Don’t know if it’s because I am’ a new member or if it’s lack of “IT” skills can you do the contact No on the message board?
  10. Here we are talking tons of silt and mud dont' think I havent tried the obvious you have to see to believe!
  11. Hi Dor, At this moment in time I’m at the start of the Shroppie i.e. near AutherlyJunction but not to fussed where I am so long as I can leave my van secure when cruising and don’t’ have to pay extravagant mooring fees any contacts would be grate and more than welcome Yeh! Idont think you understand the problem.
  12. Hi Mike, thanks’ for your thoughts you were quite right to enquire about my Landlord It’s not “BW” but a private company of estate management, called “Smith Gore” who at the moment don’t seem interested in the problem. Although my mooring is in a winding hole “BW” don’t want to play ball because the “Estate” own the water and there have been historic disputes which as you’ll gather does not help at all. The main problem seems to be disposing of the silt because the “Environmental Agency” claims it could be contaminated and you need a special licence to undertake any work.

  14. Hi,to any readers, I’m not new to boating! But am to this Forum and IT, so apologies upfront for any mistakes. I moor on the Shroppie! Or used to!! My mooring has become so silted up its now impossible to manuver the boat with-out doing some damage to the engine or fan belts etc. I’m really sad because the mooring was only costing me £502 per year for a “60ft er” I sussed out a mooring for £1550, but have just been let down, does this mean I have to go in-to an expensive Marina or has any-body got any “info” or advice for me?
