    Agreed. A major improvement.

Far better than all the casual moorings AND all the moorings that DE now control being infested with CMers.

The CMers will eventually Squat on the DE controlled Moorings ,very hard to Levy charges to People with un named and un registered boats ,there will be no space For Boaters....

This is absolutely a fantastic benefit coming from charging for moorings, and for street parking. Once people have to pay for it, suddenly there is space.

Yes ,the DE controlled moorings will have space and all the Casual Moorings will be full of CM'ers so nowhere for Boaters to Moor ,end of enjoyable River.....Brilliant.

it is well out of the time that a mooring charge should be issued, 3 months after the mooring date.

Ignore it or just write back with your proof.

It is really sad that this is happening.

It is the Death Knell for the Thames ,I know loads of Legitimate Boat Folk Object to these Car Clamper Types being allowed to Operate on the River ,Extortionists................

I had no idea there was such a small and cute little single cylinder diesel. At 1.7hp and not a not bigger than a suitcase genny, it looks perfect for squeezing into the corner of an engine room with an alternator.

Or I was wondering about putting one under the tug deck.

My D.C. Genset is a Farymann 300 CC Water Cooled Diesel with Electric Start.1200 RPM gives a steady 50 Amps at 12 -14.5 Volts.

Trouble is that boats have to have ventilation so effective sound proofing is just about impossible.

When I used to live in a house the woman who lived opposite was having an affair with her boss and used to bring him home every lunchtime and usually left the front bedroom window open, and was very loud, its not just boats.

Best to avoid Sunday mornings when the fishermen like to sit right outside the boat, or then again just carry on to remind them that you are having a lot more fun than they are..

    I've got a washing machine.

It gives a better wash on hot for cotton type bedding and towels, etc,

For my cotton jeans etc  I use Vanish stain remover, its granules, granules would not work in cold.

I use modern detergents plus Dettol Laundry but no Lenor softener [I am in soft water area.]

I never use a cold wash, its just not going to do the job properly, even warm is so much better.

Vanish and similar Products are mainly Percarbonate of Soda which does work nicely in warm Water.good stuff and I use it in the Loo as well ,nicer than Elsan Blue!

Ignorance rears its ugly head ?. I thought you could not retro fit gas instant water heaters. Only replace like for  like with them. Or did I dream that one?

There appears to be a bit of Lassitude on that Rule ,it was silly to try and get rid of them as so many Boaters know there true worth.

    Hello all,

When we moved aboard 19 months ago we removed the old pump out tank and sealed off the skin fittings. They are now sweating as water condensates on them and causing damp. Without removing them is the best solution to insulate them somehow?

If so, what would be best to use?

    Cheers muchly!

Have used Sprayfoam Insulation for that Job.Aerosol Can.Works best Sprayed on to a  damp Surface.

Thanks for the input Adrian. I can cope with rods and my baby welder for thick stuff but I’m wanting to weld 2mm or so plate occasionally which is what I thought a small mig would be good for. I can’t foresee me welding outside much if at all.

2 mm ok for stick ,low melting point or Fast freeze Rods .Keep the Amps. way down low.......

It's not about coins. Its not about which voltage is a priority. The OP asked if 240V was needed and proceeded to say in his view it wasnt needed. He is right it is not needed......but if you want all the comforts of modern living when living on a boat it is an obvious thing to have. If you want to slum it then ok, dont have it. Of course you need 12v  (or 24V) if you are gong boating on a liveaboard boat.

Gong boating is good ,just remember to stock up on Aspirin and Ear Defenders before you go..

Of all the things I could scrimp on 240 v is right at the top of the list. I lived on for 12 years without 240v and seldom missed it. The present boat is 12 volt but we have a cheap little inverter that powers the telly and runs the various chargers for cordless tools, phones, camera chargers etc. We would not like to be without that. Its the gross users of electric that we decided to do without. A washing machine takes up a lot of space, needs hundreds of pounds worth of batteries and inverter or generator and although it might be nice to have one its not a lot of bother to wash a few bits by hand and save the big stuff for launderettes.

If you come across a Cordless  or 12 Volt Hot Air gun please let me know.

Yes, I have to say that I found the Greek sanitary arrangements a bit off-putting, particularly on a hot day with flies buzzing around around the bin with the used paper:sick:. The guy that we hired our boat from insisted that the reason that they do this is because their waste is carried in small calibre pipes, he couldn't think of an answer when I asked him if they only passed small calibre turds.

Maybe they Polished the Turds prior to Launch?

I suspect that the majority of toilet paper gets used by the ladies to dry their fanny . Provided you are not wanting to start your fire using it then it would burn no problem.

Guess it would depend on what they have been Drinking?

Anybody know the owner of this er 'boat'? It's still tethered (above Waltham Abbey on the Lee). I have this image in my mind of the owner departing the scene having forgotten that the tender was still tied up! Although the duck tape suggests that the parting was only a matter of time!

So ,it is a Case of Tender Behind?

There is a story, not sure how true it is, of a judge throwing a speeding case out of court because he couldn't believe a reliant Robin could do over 90 mph

A Robin can easily do 90 (Degrees)

It seems a shame that Reliant did not Equip it with a self righting capability ,like Life boats have..

Oh I don't know, Take the old PA Vauxhall Cresta and Velox, very stylish, Although American GM influence.  Cars with flush integral wings or fenders as the yanks call em instead of sticky out ones. Much much more different, diverse, quirky and interesting cars in those days though than the current awfully boring computer generated look alike SUV  trend of today.

I owned a PA Cresta in the early Seventies ,nice motor but i sold it to buy  a Consul Convertible ,just had to!
