  1. I acknowledge what you are saying but the way I see it the company want to make a booking. There is no name on the voucher and I really don't think that they would mind as long as they get a booking from it. I know for a fact that I can't make a booking as I have no more week long holidays left so if someone else can use it then Black Prince will get the booking that they want and someone will get £50 off their booking. I honestly don't see anything wrong with giving it away.
  2. Hi Folks We've just come back from our first boating holiday and it was amazing! However we won't be able to use the £50 voucher that they have given us and would hate to see it go to waste. If anyone is planning to go with Black Prince and has not yet paid their deposit we can send you this voucher on a first come first served basis. If you want to pm me with their address you can have it with pleasure. It does specify that the holiday must be of at least one week duration.
  3. Thank you all for your postings, they've all been really useful.
  4. Hi folks we have booked a holiday going along the Macclesfield to Whaley Bridge and back to Stoke and we have a few ideas as to where to eat along the way. I wonder if any of you have tried these pubs and can tell us what they were like and how child friendly they were: 1. The Old King's Head at bridge 43 2. Windmill Inn at bridge 25 3. Boar's Head at bridge 15 4. Fool's Nook at bridge 49 5. Railway Inn at bridge 75 Any comments would be very helpful, thanks
  5. Thanks all for your replies you've all been very helpful
  6. Hi John thanks, will keep your email for future reference.
  7. The plan is to forward it to my brother but we can't use his address as a postal address, not least because he has a habit of moving himself every 6-12 months! but we can use it for collecting mail from. Does that make sense? Can't think how else to put it.
  8. I've had a quick search of the forums on the topic of Postal addresses and living aboard and I gather that most livaboards use friends addresses. However this approach may not be the best option for us for various reasons and we were wondering if there was anyone who uses one of the Forwarding Services and could recommend a good one. Cost is a consideration so we are looking for one that doesn't cost the earth but is reliable and convenient. (Yes the words Cake and eating thereof spring to mind lol) I was looking into boatmail.co.uk and it looks reasonable, anybody had dealings with them?
  9. Hi folks thank you all so much for your posts, they've all been really helpful, just what I was hoping for. Will certainly look out for the Rising Sun,is it a family friendly pub do you know? Does anyone know where there are some shops along the way to stock up, we're hoping to get provisions at the start for the whole week but in case we run out of anything it would be handy to pick up some little things along the way? Thanks again and keep your comments coming, they are very useful.
  10. Hi Folks We have a holiday booked for the beginning of April next year and we were wondering if anyone has any tips of things that we need to take. We are a family of 5 (3 Adults and 2 children aged 12 and 5) and we have already thought about waterproofs for every one and good non slip footwear but can't think of anything else that we might need to remember. I am hoping that you folks will think of some things that we haven't thought of. We've done the RYA Helmsman Course but have never been on our own on a boat before. Also we are thinking of doing the Whaley Bridge and back option from the Stoke on Trent base of Black Prince has anyone any tips? I'm particularly nervous about the Harecastle Tunnel are there any little tricks for getting us through it with as little bumps as possible. Can anyone recommend any good family pubs on the way and where is it best to moor up? Thanks everyone.
  11. lol My husband said that and I suppose you are both right. It's just that I'm still only just adjusting to the fact that I have grown up sons eeek! (I thought I'd be young forever lol)
  12. Now you see why I brought this subject up. Despite it being discussed ad nausiem (to some people) there is still a lot of confusion out there which I wanted to get clarified for us newbies. What would be the price difference between the two?
  13. Thank you so much Tim You have given me precisely what I was looking for; a concise and simple answer to a genuine question. You've been a great help, thank you. I wonder if the moderators would consider moving this thread to the FAQ section as I'm sure it will be of help to other newbys too.
  14. Thanks Roy and Caprifool I admit that having read a few of the threads I am still a bit hazy as to understanding exactly what the options are and how do-able each option is. Not all the threads explain them in simple terms. There is a lot of terms banded about such as CCing, residential mooring, leisure mooring, visitors mooring etc but I was unsure of the legality and availability of each type. I'm only just beginning to understand the differences so please don't hate me for being a newby. Thank you also NB Alnwick for your help, I appreciate it.
  15. No I can assure you that we are very sincere. Try to remember that not everyone has the time to trawl through every thread on the offchance that it will answer a question. Unless the OP and title suggests that it is about what we want to know I don't necessarily read through them all. I'm sorry if I have somehow offended anyone although I can't imagine how I have! I only asked!
  16. Hi folks We are thinking of selling up and going liveaboard in a couple of years time. Ideally we would like to get a residential mooring but if that is not possible (as we know how difficult these are to find) what exactly are our options? We don't much fancy CCing as our older two children will either be at work or college at the time. What do others do?
  17. I second that! Went and did the RYA Helmsman Course yesterday and had a fab time. Malcolm was brilliant and I now know how to handle the boat ready for our first trip next year. Only wish we could go sooner.
  18. Thanks Richard for this we did a Google and found Top Lock Training, so we decided to go for this one instead.
  19. Hi folks We were thinking of going on a taster day course. Has anyone been on the one at Great Haywood Marina, if so what did you think of it? Thanks Ruthy
  20. Just nicked this link from another thread, hope you don't mind carlt mrd's stove
  21. The organisation that we claimed his redundancy and wages from was the Insolvency Payments Office at Birmingham. It is specifically for people who couldn't be paid their dues because the firm was insolvent. I don't know if this was the case for you but it might be worth contacting them anyway. The Insolvency Service hth Best of luck
  22. My dh had a similar issue when he was made redundant. His employer claimed that he was going into receivership (even though he still operates now!) but I can't remember the name of the organisation that we claimed his redundancy and wages from. I will try to find the papers for you and get back to you. In the meantime have you tried ACAS, they may be able to "negotiate" with your former employer for what he owes you or will at least direct you to the appropriate organisation. My link hth Ruthy
  23. Do you get any benefits for this? I was wondering how that would work as my son gets DLA and we get Tax Credits. Does anybody know if you need a proper address to get such benefits and how that can be got around.
  24. Hi folks Thanks for all your responses, I will keep all your suggestions in mind when we do take the plunge. I have to say nothing that I've read here and on other forums put me off the idea of living afloat but all your comments and suggestions are good to keep in mind. Thank you all for sharing your expertise. Thanks Ruthyx
