  1. Be very careful. I have known cases where people have "recovered" their car from a garage in similar circumstances and have been charged with theft (or TWOC).

Taking without owners consent(TWOC). You are the owner. Maybe not of the new parts but the car is yours. If you are not happy with the service and wish to contest it, you are within your rights to take your car. If you have ordered a meal and you have an issue with it, you are within your right to refuse to pay anything for it.

  2. Just like your car, a garage rarely lets you take your motor until payment is made unless you have an account or other arrangement or understanding.

We won't even undertake a removal unless payment in full is received and cleared to our account 3 days prior, and we certainly wouldn't release goods in storage until payment is made in full.

I would say though that a written conformation from an insurance company would satisfy me that payment would be received and release goods & services, we quite often do work for insurers and the deal is sometimes directly with the insurer and not through the customer.

Nothing stopping you driving away with your car from the car park using spare keys.

  3. Don't worry about the guy. He got permission (I presume) to permanently moor the tug there to run his business and, as a consequence, reduces the mooring for visitors and competes with other businesses in the town who have to pay business rates. He's not so squeaky clean when it comes to the rules either. My house overlooks the quay and the aforesaid boat and he has often parked on the double yellows in our road for hours on end with his tailgate up to make it look as though he is loading/unloading.

Interesting!!! I know he appears some days on a bicycle. Next time I'm in town and I notice his bike isnt there I shall look for his car. I dont need the assistance of a traffic warden.

They don't sound very convenient. You'd have to wait for them to thaw out before you could write your appointments and your friends' telephone numbers in them.

Well spotted! I wondered when someone would notice. I put it in on purpose................honest!!

  5. I know those superstitious folk out there say its bad luck to rename a boat unless its out of water. When I rename my boat do I just inform CaRT and my insurance company?

Take it in a dry dock, drain the water out put on the new name then fill the dock up again!! Voila.

  6. Yesterday while doing a bit of work to the outside of my boat while moored in the centre of Skipton a boat came within inches of our boat while avoiding a floating weed bank. The offending item got washed to the front of our boat. I proceeded to pull it into the side with my boat hook. After a few aggressive stabs I managed to break it into 3 manageable pieces as it was about 3' by 2' and get it hurled onto the path. I placed it away from the said path onto a small grass verge. Its visible from the path but NOT causing a hazard. Whats wrong with that!?

A bloke who sells frozen diary products in his floating shop asked me what I was gonna do with it? I told him nowt. He said why have I pulled it out and not left it as it would eventually rot away. I told him that it causes problems for boaters either for prop issues or for dodging it in the cut. He still insisted I shift it. I said I was going to leave it. He then started to get shirty and say that it would be left there for ever. I replied in a rather abrupt reply. Well its gonna get left then. Have I done wrong?

I later praised myself for not loosing my rag with this man who wears genitalia on his forehead.

  7. The round plaque at the front of our boat which has the springbok on it needs a replacement. I've lived with it for far too long. It came with the boat, the history behind it will take too long. Lets just say the previous owner had S.African connections. We will be painting the front bulk head in a fortnight and it will be coming off for good (hooray!). It will leave the bulkhead looking bare/sparse. What can I do with it or do we just replace the picture for something else. The white panels on the sides have a Yorkshire Rose on now as it previously had a S.African flag. Another rose will look too much I think.

Any reasonable suggestions will be grateful.

  8. Just had a real fright-still shaking. We were going through snarestone tunnel on the ashby-checked it was clear-you can see through-had our lights on We got 3/4 through and a boat starts coming through-blasted horn-several times and shouted-and then had a full debate trying to convince him it wasn't wide enough for 2 boats-his response was-lets try. Eventually he did reverse

Had a great time so far and been around long enough to know this was an exceptional fool-but needed to have a rant-rant over-thanks guys

    Name and shame the idiot!

  9. We did Swanley to Skipton last Summer. Avoid Burnley Blackburn Wigan and Manchester by Trafford. Some very nice spots on your trip in between these. We did the trip in about 8-10 days

Get in touch with Kiwidad. Ive told him all the best places to moor and he has had no regrets in following my advice so far. He entered Yorkshire from the hole at Stanedge and has gone thru Leeds and is now currently into Lancashire via the L&L.
