I've just taken my washing in because its started to rain here. While I was out there I measured my prop and its 9'x6''wooden, it keeps my line nice and taught in the middle and stops my washing dragging in the dirt. I dropped a peg in the dark.
Nice one!
Mike. Does one just want to know my prop size or my gearbox and boat length too?

I know of a perfect spot on the L&L just below Skipton where you can moor and watch the cycling without any interferance from any other onlookers. Ideally placed above the road, so you can sit on the roof of the boat and watch it pass by or inside if the weather is bad. Where is this spot I hear you say? Dont be daft I aint sharing it cos I'm gonna be there.

I'm not sure quite how you can say that as you are comparing apples with oranges. The two Pennine Cruisers trip boats operating on the Springs Branch are small boats that just do the Springs Branch and nowhere else, the trip lasting about half an hour I reckon. Their other boats are hire boats and day boats.
Pennine Trip Boats are large wide beam boats that can take up to a coach load of people (and often do when the coach trips come to Skipton) and then travel the main line to a suitable winding hole in either direction, the trip lasting perhaps two hours-ish. They are obviously, even to Joe Public, a different type of trip and operating from different premises in a different type of boat so there is no competition between these two types of trip. In fact, as far as I can see, for boating related operations, the only direct competition is between the two companies day boats. Pennine Cruisers has 6 day boats IIRC which are often busy and Pennine Boat Trips has two which are not frequently booked.
There is a slight overlap as regards food (i.e. non-boating activities). Pennine Cruisers has a small cafeteria with reasonable amounts of clientele and Pennine Boat Trips operates the Pie and Mash shop which is always busy, often heaving.

Pennine Boat trips have 2 day boats ALSO

Anyone know of any safe and secure moorings in the Skipton North Yorkshire/Lancashire borders?

Thanks for the replies! As Rod says I have my answer. As a Mirfield lad born n bred I know the area like the back of my hand. Thanks for the cruising tips though not necessary.
4x2 it is then.
Skye I'll give you a hollow if required. As we are on our native stomping ground from Sowerby Bridge to Leeds we have had plenty of offers of help. I'll add you to the list! Ta.

We will be hopefully taking our boat along this canal for the first time in the Summer. The ground paddles on this stretch which need a timber (like a pick axe handle) to operate them. What can I use? A piece of 3x2 or 4x2 will do?

Dean. You dont seem to have much faith in me, if you think I am gonna damage something every time I look in my engine. Cheers for the advice. I will check it out next weekend. Fingers Xed without damaging owt!

I have noticed today that when I put the throttle lever out of gear with the red button pushed in and give it a bit of gas the prop shaft turns ever so slightly. Maybe a full revolution in 1-2 mins. If I put more gas on it turns faster. This may be a a daft question for some but it aint for me.

After reading Martins post I realise you were at Snaygill. We've been there since August 2012. Where abouts at Snaygill were you?Not enough is my answer
Where abouts in Skipton were you?

Not enough is my answer
First five years we cced as full time liveaboards but due to unfortunate family circumstances we have had to leave the boat sat on its mooring in Skipton for the last three years. In that time we managed to clock up about 10 miles of cruising! Recently brought it down to Devizes in a marathon three weeks, now it's sat on new moorings waiting for us to decide what to do. If we sell we wouldn't be interested in hiring as owning our boat makes up the majority of our waterborne pleasure, so we hesitate to burn our bridges.
Where abouts in Skipton were you?

I have about 2-3 ton of firewood available. Free to anyone who wants to collect it. You will need transport to collect it and a saw. Its in 6" x 2" at various lengths. This wood must go asap or it will end up on a bonfire in November. Its about 5 minutes by car from the Bradford Royal Infirmary. Please contact me
Cheers Darren
