24 hours free, fiver each night for two more nights and then off you go...unless you can arrange something else or just stay there like some have...
Electric is available on the lock island head mooring for a fee which i don't know.
Don't believe there is a resident lockie in the house just yet as it is let but one is due...
Steve is the resident at Cleeve lock just up from Goring and may be able to help as he often double mans it.
* Sometimes boats stay on the tail mooring but weir stream side, that may also be a option.

I never really thought of it as a security measure, i suppose you could say if anyone were watching the boat the light might make it look occupied....
But most likely it would just look like a light that comes on at night!

Just in from getting a narrowboat out from where it was stuck under a mooring. The river has come up, only a few inches, but enough for it to lean over and be pinned under the ledge with tight lines. Took a couple of lads on the side and me to push it out from under and tie again. Not seen the owner for a couple of days. Might have been a issue in the morning.

Although on the plus side it is washing the dust off...

Can i suggest not getting into too many projects too quickly. Try to enjoy the boat as it functions now and see what needs to be done after living with it.

Mine had a wire screen which was a pain to remove for blacking the tube. The grills never found their way back on and the performance of the BT was improved by their removal. I am on a river so perhaps less rubbish to suck in and also situated a bit deeper in the water probably helps. Mine is also easy to remove with the boat in the water so if i do get a problem it isn't a costly haul out to sort which is a consideration. Not very helpful to you sorry but that is my experience.

This i think is nearer to what is happening.
We now have a new Mifi and despite a excellent signal the download speeds are nowhere near what they were when we started the unlimited plan nearly a year ago. 3 have admitted to engineering works and network issues so I hope it is only temporary as a symptom of upgrading the network for 5G or whatever... We shall see. Thanks.

The last week i have been having trouble with my 3 mifi data connection.
I have previously had great download speeds even in fringe areas and enjoyed streaming movies on my unlimited plan. Now even in areas where i am getting a good signal my download speeds have been very slow - less than 1 Mb a second up and down - and dropping out so often i have to reconnect multiple times making it unusable. 3 coverage checker and network status is saying there are issues in the areas i have visited which is basically up and down the Thames. I am convinced the fault is not with my Mifi, sim or aerial but it could be. My Huawei mifi page is displaying good signal and nothing has changed in the settings.
I have tried customer services and they do say they are doing engineering works on a fault in Staines, but i have had trouble in Windsor, Marlow and Reading this week.
Anyone else had these issues with 3 specifically along the Thames Valley?

I am told the 8mm blue tester is "easier" to get the old fittings out and replace than the silver one but still requires a bit of effort...
I shall just order the one from Southampton Calor ready made up for the 3/8" pipe.

What i do know is that i have 3/8" gas pipe and so will need a compression fitting of that size. It's the male thread size of the fitting that goes into the bubble tester I would like to know, if anyone does that would be very helpful.

Can i ask exactly what size fittings i need to replace the Alde bubble tester - The blue one in 8mm - to fit 3/8" OD pipe.
Southampton Calor do one ready made up but it is 30 quid more expensive... so seeing if it is worth the effort ref the fittings are in tight!

If it is only one panel in the bathroom how about using the vinyl they use to wrap cars? Won't cost a lot, should show the grain and if it looks bloody awful you could always rip it off and paint...

I am thinking of replacing my old freestanding gas oven with a new one:
Presuming gas connection is as simple as taking the old connection off the back of the old appliance and connecting it onto the new appliance, am I allowed to install my oven myself?
What are the implications to my current or future boat safety certificates?
Do i need a Gas registered installer to do it?

Is your friend using a additive such as Fuelset? There may be water in the fuel.
Did you take this sample from the bottom of the tank? If not that would be my next thing to do, see if you bring up sludge or water or both.
Clever types will be along shortly with more info but those are my thoughts...

While i don't disagree with Mr Sea Dogs condensation argument and if it were a one off i would consider it... but as you have taken the trouble to drain and check for water before, it seems to be happening a bit too often. I would suspect a leak from a fuel filler cap or through a vent.
I think all you can do is try to eliminate the source. Check O rings on fillers caps. Maybe make some sort of rain cover for the vent and see if the problem appears again. I hope it is a simple fix.

As it hasn't been used... perhaps an additional water tank?
And yes toilet waste needs to stay onboard until you chuck/pump it out. Grey water which is your showers and sinks can go over the side in this country.

You are both correct.
Abingdon Lock island is popular and gets booked out by visiting boat clubs in the summer. It does have electric on the island. Richard is very helpful.
Sandford Lock island could suit you very well as it is less popular but does have electric. Talk to Aidan.
Otherwise I would try and make contact with the locks up from there you think could have moorings and see what they say.

Sorry LR you are correct to mention the second button and i shouldn't have taken it as being directed at my post. It isn't exactly an intuitve site though is it...

I hope DE do lose the contract. While I was there I offered my views to a park ranger and he said DE had been given one last chance to get it right and told me he also thought it would be better if it went back to the palace managing the moorings themselves.
