  1. Oh... I thought the engine coolant and the skin tank water were separate and only 'touched' through the heat exchanger wall's. If I can fill the skin tank via the engine top up cap which is on the hear exchanger(Vetus Engine) things will be a lot easier.
  2. Not sure if there is a bleed screw on mine, I will have a good look around the week end, if not if I drain by detatching a hose do I fill it through the same hose?.
  3. Hi, how do you guys drain the skin tank to change the anti freeze. Cheers Andy
  4. I turned the knob on the PRV a few times and put a little more pressure in the accumalator tank. The pump doesn't go off on its own anymore but the valve PRV is still dumping water over the side when a tap is turned off. So I will get a new PRV valve fitted. Do chandlers sell these ?
  5. Thanks guys, I did replace the pump for the same model a couple of months ago Jabsco Par Max 4 Automatic Water Pressure Pump 12v 31620-0292 PRESSURE SWITCH - cuts in at 1.0bar (15psi) - cuts out at 1.7bar (25psi)The PRV is rated at 3bar I will try what you suggest and let you know how I get on. Thanks again
  6. Hi, When ever we run water from a tap shower or flush the loo. The pressure valve on the hot water cylinder discharges a little water over the side. Also the water pump goes of now and again with no taps on. Can't find any leaks inside the boat seems it could be all to do with this valve. Is the valve at fault and should be repaired/replaced or could it be something else. Any help please. thanks
  7. Thanks for all your replies I will try tightening the belts a bit more and see if this clears it. It has only just started happening since monday.
  8. When I start the vetus engine on the boat the battery warning light and buzzer stay on until I rev the engine hard for a second or two then everything seems fine. Does this mean that one or both of the alternators are on the way out or the batteries are coming to the end of there life. I have checked the fan belts and they appear to be tight. Any help .....thanks Andy

    Ironing

What type of iron is suitable for a narrowboat when away from shore power. Have seen 240/12v products for sale but do these consume power like an electric kettle. Not for me you understand (I dont mind the creased look) but the wife..... What do you use?

    Tools

We are shortly to start extended cruising on board our first narrow boat and because of the limited space I need advise on what tools and spares to keep on board to service and maintain the Vetus 42hp engine and the water and electrical systems. I'm sure I will have most the tools at home but need to filter out the ones that I wont need. Also a good instructor for us to learn from in the Rugby region Any advise will be much appreciated
  13. Hi I purchased a couple of Waterway Routes DVD's and was just wandering if anyone else has seen them and what they thought of them. I have seen the Birmingham and 4 counties ring.
