It always struck me as an expensive shop at any time of year!

In my experience it's the other way round, boaters in their bubble barely notice anglers.
We obviously have different experiences then.

Well thanks for the replys folk. Still considering the idea but i can see i could spend from a few pounds to several hundred. One thing is certain - after being a narrowboat owner for 12 or so years i won't be one of the grumpy so and so's that never speak to passing boaters!
May see you on a towpath soon.

I have not been fishing since I was a lad of 11 so and that was 57 years ago - what kit would I need to get to maybe start canal fishing again? What would a reasonable set up cost these days?
Cheers

I've got an inline filter made by Doulton - came from midland Chandlers. It's quite slow (cos of all the filtration that it does).
Here's a modern equivalent:-

The River Pageant to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday will be held on June 11th .......
Yet Her Majesty's birthday was on APRIL 21st.

We had a Seagull IV for 11 years on the boat and was so impressed with the quality and taste of the water that we have now fitted one into our motorhome.

Used AJ Canopies at Braunston for cratch cover and

a PRAM HOOD which was on a tubular frame.

Channel 81 is broadcast by the Mendip transmitter - I can get it on my YouView box but not the TV (not retuned the TV as we watch everything via the YV box).

Before fitting any type of heater I suggest you get in place a decent charging system - I don't think your outboard will provide enough power to run an eber when the engine is not running. No experience of gas heating but that MIGHT be the way to go.

Get a washing up brush from Lidl - just the tool on the boat. Make a holder from a cut down squash bottle or cut down milk container.

In reply to Cleyley Bob (can't get Quote to work) I have recollections of "Moonraker" the weed clearing boat. I think it was an electric boat - with a gert big generator on board. Although I don't remember seeing it in the flesh so to speak it was certainly mentioned more than once in the Butty magazine (K & A Trust mag).
Should be some photos in the K & A Trust archives.

Back in the mid 1960s there was only two boats on the "long pound" of the K & A. They were both made from ex WW II pontoons. In each case the paddle unit, complete with engine, was clamp onto the back of the boat and classed as an outboard motor. In those days the length of an outboard was not taken into account when calculating the boat length. (That was the info given to me by a friend [chap called Brian Tidy] who owned one of them - it was named after the well known weed killer - 2 4 D)
Not seen or heard of Brian in years now. Anyone know him?

I know it's not a wadworth house, I was just asking if you ever drink in the British lion.
Darren
I rarely go to pub these days - not been in the British for 2 or 3 years.

Waddys still use the horses, apparently it's the most economical transport for deliveries within two miles of the brewery. I worked for the company for three years in the mid 70s, but I was in the wine & spirit warehouse rather than the brewery - the stables are just out the back of the W&S warehouse.
Things are about to change with regard to the W & S as the warehouse has been sold and W&S are moving back into the main brewery building. Hope this doesn't change things too much. They haven't done any bottling there for some years, I think that's done by Whitbreads (but not sure).
Cheers to 6X.

Do you ever get into the British lion ??
DarrenThat's not a Wadworth house!

I used to have an inflatable, licensed (correct spelling 'cos it's a verb) as a tender with the EA. it was powered by an electric outboard, the battery was charged by a dedicated solar panel. When on the canals it generally was on the roof of the narrowboat because too much rubbish floating in the cut. On the Thames it was towed behind the NB. Very handy when moored for a few days at places like Abingdon and Lechlade to do a cassette run!

I used to have one in my (inflatable) tender. Wouldn't want one in anything bigger or heavier.

I used the spare outlet from the CAV filter and never had any problems. I did at times have the eberspacher running at the same time as the engine.

A common misconception. Neither the private marina nor CaRT can claim it is “their” water, other than in a strictly limited, jurisdictional sense. The owner of land covered by water does not thereby become the owner of that water; the marina owner owns the land but not the water, therefore the water must belong to the organisation (ie CaRT) that provided it, and possibly was responsible for pumping it to get it there
-
Even in the marina your boat is floating on CaRTs water.

I have this one - from E-Bay, in my motorhome. Not cheap but it does have a regulated 12/24 volt PSU and a mains PSU.
19" 12 Volt HD Digital Ultra slim LED TV Caravan, Boat, Marine, HGV 24 V 12V
(Wasn't that price when I bought mine last year though)

I'm not boating these days but the other day I went to A and B Auto's Devizes - by bridge 136 Coate road bridge on the K & A and found the premises empty. Thought I would post it here (can't find if it has already been posted) as it might help someone who might rely on the shop for things like Morris oils etc which used to be sold there.
HTH someone.
