Trish,
I was just wondering if it was possible to remove the picture of Malc's boat from the posters that Paul created? You are more than welcome to use my edit above!
Also, I'd be grateful that if you need to phone me today, could you do so after 12:00 as I've just finished a night shift!
Thank you

Dave,
Hatton Flight is about 2miles outside of Warwick, Warwickshire. As many boatyards etc have been alerted as possible, and hopefully most would have seen the coverage.

Hi Folks,
I between night shifts at the moment, so I was in bed when Trish called this morning and I need to get more sleep before I got up!
Here is the picture, minus the other boat. As Trish said, this was on the Hatton Flight on the 28th March, heading towards Warwick.
Since then I have walked the entire pound between Cape Locks and Radford Bottom Lock (last week) and I didn't see any boat resembling Holly's design at all. That is not to say the it hasn't returned to the area, so it sounds like a good excuse for a bike ride tomorrow afternoon in the sunshine!
Jon
I've removed the picture of your boat Malc as request. Trish did ask me to do that this morning, but unfortunately unless I got some sleep I'd be next to useless when I got to work tonight!

Good suggestion. Above poster now amended to include the licence number!

Following another converstion with Trish, it appears that the earlier reporting sightings nr to Leciester are likely to have been a different boat, not the Holly we are looking for. Middlewich Narrowboats are suggesting that the search should be opened up again following the last confimed sighting on 20th March near to Birmingham. While obviously a siginificant amount of time has passed, if there are any members around the BCN area that are able to keep an eye out it would be appreciated.
Paul, Trish and the team at Middlewich Boats would like to pass on their thanks to everyone for their help.

I have also created a poster that will fit onto a single A4 page. Unfortunately I can only produce this in PDF format:
The first 2 posters were supplied to me by Paul, the managing director of Middlewich so I will let them answer the question.

Here is the poster both in word (.doc) and PDF format:

Paul would like me to pass on his thanks to all members for their help. It is very much appreciated.

Following on from Pauls message above, the hirer Mr David Graham KING is pictured here:
Obviously, his appearence may have changed slightly over the period (could have grown a beard etc) but this should give you some idea.

This has been asked many times of the last couple of years, most recently: http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=7709
With that in mind, I'll close this one and it can continue in the above thread if required.

You are right in the sense that the RYA course is not a formal qualification, however as more and more people do it, the better the general skill base will become.
Clearly there aree those out and about who still have lots to learn (myself included) and sometimes the only real way is the hard way. The worst I've ever managed to do is scrape the blacking on the side of a boat. I've seen others do worse, but mostly it's not a problem.

I think the problem is that we did not have an area to focus on. Normally the towpath telegraph works well in local areas, but here we were (are?) talking about a nationwide search. The important thing is that sightings are being reported again now, so atleast the boat and hirer are likely to be safe.

Thanks for the link to the video, well worth watching.
Trish and the team have worked to inform lots of boat yards and hopefully by the now the message will have got around. It is inevitable that some will have been missed though.

A further appeal, could the female who phoned a left a message on the answer phone of Middlwich Boats stating you had seen Holly on GUC Leicester Line nr Watford and did not leave any contact details please call them back so they can clarify a few details with you.
Many thanks,
Jon

If the boat is seen DO NOT APPROACH THE BOAT YOURSELF!
If you see it, please do one of the following:
1) Call Middlewich Narrowboats on 01606 832460 and tell then your exact location/bridge number. They will then contact the Police (this is best probably if you find the boat moored and no-one with it)
2) Call Cheshire Police on 0845 458 0000 quoting incident 421 dated 24/03/2007 (again, if found and no danger of the boat/person going missing again)
3) If you think that the person on the boat is in danger, or likely to run off prior to Police arrival, then call the local Police on 999, and explain the circumstances to the operator.
I stress again - DO NOT APPROACH THE BOAT YOURSELF!

Thanks Trish, sorry, misunderstood you there!

I can confirm last known direction of travel was towards Leceister. Trish, are you able to confirm if there were any noticable changes (ie, paintwork etc).
Many thanks,
Jon

I have just spoken with Trish on the phone and it does appear that the sighting in Bosworth tunnel is confirmed. This would also appear to fit with the possible sighting in Blisworth Tunnel above. It is very encouraging that they are starting to get sighting reported again.
Please could anyone in that area keep an eye out for the boat. If seen please contact Middlewich Boats on the details above. Many thanks
-
Blisworth Tunnel would certainly be possible, given his last sighting on 20th March, but it does seem likely to be Holly from Bugbrooke Marina as above....

Denis R,
How certain are you that this boat was called Holly and about the painted out panels? This could be very significant...
Jon

I'm surprised a photo pf the gentleman in question hasn't been shown yet any reason why? Have they confirmed that the guy was who he said he was?
This would be something the Police would sort as part of their missing person enquiry. I doubt that MNB would have access to a picture of the hirer.

Funnily enough, I'd never heard about this problem until today, then it happened to one of the modern diesel vans at work last night. Apparently some prat had over filled the oil, resulting in an inability to stop the engine. Cue call out to the AA, although I don't know how they fixed it!...

Thanks all. As time goes on this does get more and more strange, particularly since no-one has even reported seeing the boat recently.
A Middlewich Hire Boat in the south is bound to be noticed, particulary by the more observant/regular boaters. Please keep asking around and pass the message on to anyone, anywhere.
Many thanks,
Jon
Missing boat - Holly - NOW FOUND!

I would think he will probably have the original licence, after all at the time the boat was re-painted, everyone was looking for a Green Middlewich boat called Holly, not a blue one. And how many people can tell the difference (if you weren't looking for it) between the private and hire licences?
As for whether we are helping or impeading the search by giving it so much publicity, I can only think we are helping because otherwise he'd never get spotted!
Thanks to all for your help so far,
Jon
