Cashew fruit
Well I never knew that! Cashew nuts grow at the base of a fruit! the fruit is a light spongy texture which oozes out a sharpe flavoured juice when you bite it. Not unlike the flavour of an old fashioned Bramley apple. The juice is used to make cashew fenni, the local spirit. The nut shell is used to produce a black bitumen like substance that they use to waterproof the boats....... what an amazing crop! Nuts, alcohol and boat maintenance all in a single fruit! all canal towpaths should grow them!
