A 'Tunnel Hook' which would have been fitted to the side of the stern end of a butty, to enable it to be connected to another boat behind it while being towed through a tunnel by a tug. By fitting the hook to the side of the stern the elum (tiller/rudder on a butty) could still be operated without fouling the rope.

This hand forged hook was found in the Grand Union canal
