Rochdale or Huddersfield

Hi all, any advice please, we would like to take the Rochdale Canal end of this week/beginning of the next. My wife is a bit worried it will be hard for her if we can't get another boat to go with. We will be travelling from Leeds to Manchester. What are the mechanics on the gates like? Hope someone can help, John
