I thought the first lock would be the hardest

Well, you would, wouldn't you?   But it turned out to be blakes lock between the Thames and the Kennet, which is manned. The second wasn't much of a challenge either. It was about a foot deep and already set. This boating lark is easy!   Of course, idiot knownothings that we were we left the lock in some state of wrongness, which the couple that caught us up were only too happy to point out. Which was fine, because I don't want to cause hastle and in the end I'd rather do things properly

Bought a boat, now what?

So I bought a boat last thursday, and a lovely boat it is too.   I spent ages pondering the whys and wherefores of it, and ages choosing the right boat for me. In the end it was a 58 foot RLL built boat with the name of Harold that took my fancy - and the contents of my wallet. I'll write about how and why I ended up with this particular boat at a later date. Suffice to say it's the perfect boat for me and my situation.   I had Harold, now known as "B is for Boat" or "Bisfor" surveyed ear
