  1. Hi, We are hoping to retire in a year or so and intend to spend the first two years continuously cruising . However, our boat does not have either a washing machine or a dryer, should we consider these essential or are there enough launderettes dotted about the place ? Many thanks, Steve
  2. Water tank expansion/overflow pipe ?

    Sterling

The Electrician who is currently working on our NB mentioned that the technical guy at Sterling is PETER. Peter is meant to be both knowledgeable and approachable, however he is on holiday for a couple of weeks. We avidly await his return as our new all-singing battery charger decided to terminate itself ! Steve (A not overly impressed Sterling customer)
  4. Just noticed on the New Boat Co website that there is no longer any reference to the Liverpool Boat Co based range, I seem to remember it was the Kingfisher and something else. They now appear to be concentrating on the top end, Aqualine etc. I just hope LB are ok as I bought my boat from them in November and technically have 8 months of warranty remaining !!! Cheers Steve
  5. Hi The Llangollen Canal is extremely busy during August. Cheers Steve

    Door Vents

Many thanks for all your comments and advice. Eco fan now on order, draught excluder and vent baffles will be installed. Partner is particularly keen on the mesh idea to help keep insects/spiders on the outside. Cheers Steve
  7. A truly fantastic forum !.....We have been lurkers for many months and the information we have gleaned from here has been priceless. We took delivery of a new 55' cruiser stern from Liverpool Boat Co. in late November and and are pleased to report that ,so far, we have not experienced any problems whatsoever. This is our first boat, though we have hired many times during the summer months. We decided to stay on the boat for a few nights earlier this month and all was going well until we had two days of extremely cold winds. Despite the Squirrel stove performing magnificently the draughts from the front and rear door vents lowered the internal temperature significantly. The rear bedroom was particularly cold, in fact it could not have been any more windy or cold if we had opened the doors and hatch !!!. We are aware that we must not block the door vents, however is there a way of reducing their over-effectiveness safely particularly as there seems to be ample ventilation from around the doors and hatch ?.....Or is this the trade-off with a cruiser stern ? Alternatively, perhaps we are just a pair of ' nesh ' whimps !!!!!!! Cheers, Steve and Nikki P.S. There is an electric oil-filled radiator in the bedroom which is of use to neither man nor beast under the prevailing conditions.

  9. Hi all, This has been an amazingly civilised thread considering the title and the number of posts. Discussion, debate, disagreement, swerving off-topic occasionally, all conducted with tact and diplomacy. A complete absence of pompous, sanctimonious and patronising responses. I am so encouraged that I may even ask a question regarding ELECTRICS !!!!!......or perhaps not ! All the best, Steve
  10. Ditto !.......Though I am relatively new to this forum and have a thousand questions to ask, I am just not masochistic enough to face the barrage of ridicule which normally follows from a few knowledgeable but socially unskilled members. Regards Steve
  11. My business and its profitability is absolutely fine pal !.......
  12. From my Company's experience in the construction industry ' good business people' build pretty houses to minimum engineering standards, for maximum profits using inferior materials. My company made a nice profit when reinstating the roofs that were blown off two to four year old houses in January. The roofs of the more traditional houses, built by Builders and not Business People stayed on !
