  2. Now that's interesting. How come your full rate is less than I can buy derv from the garage ? Is that because of a differeing VAT rate ? (20% for derv, 5%(?) for red) or is there some other subtlety I am not aware of ?
  3. I would have thought that someone would come in to buy the marina at a knock down price. Some of the new marinas must have been financed with fairly heafty loans from the banks. These marinas must be the most vunerable if a price war does break out. If anyone will lose the money it will be banks (mostly owned by us taxpayes and pension contributors of course).
  4. That's one big Marina!! Ha - it would be wouldn't it. They would need to bring the prices doen a long way to fill that one.
  5. Just got the bill for my marina mooring spot and found that after a couple of years of no increases that this year they have actually gone down !!. Decrease is in the order of 12%. Good news for me but no so much for the marina owners I suspect. The marins is in the Fradley - Braunston area and as has been said before there are many empty spots in exiting marinas with more opening. Rick.
  6. The steam boat was Tixall. I passed it on Friday morning by Bridge 50 just the other side of Polesworth. Oh Yeah.. and I agree about the Sam Barlow. It's a good pub despite it's utilitarian looks.
  7. We bought a share in an ownerships boat in 1994 because it was a lot cheaper than hiring an equivalent boat. We sold the share in 2001 because we bought our own boat. Taking all the costs into account (initial outlay minus what we got back when we sold it, maintenance, mangement fees, diesil, pump-out and gas) it came to about £1100 a year. Hiring in 1994 was about £600 a week out of season and £1000 in season. So provided we took 2 weeks holiday a year on the canals it was cheaper. Prices have changed since then but I think the comparison is still valid. Share ownership may not be for you (it won't be for everyone) but on cost grounds it won for us. MM
  8. A boat called Roebuck and roughly matching you description is currently parked in Alvecote Marina.
