Leaking Stainless Steel Water Tank

Featured Posts

Just this week I discovered that my five year old SS water tank is leaking, unfortunately I can't fine where the leak is. The only way to remove it is to cut it up. Short of doing that does anyone know of any "Quick fixes" some product that I can flush out with to seal leaks.

It's not really the solution I want but just at the moment I don't have the ready cash to do the job properly.

Hi Brian.

Firstly -- commisserations. Second -- are you absolutely certain it's the structure of the tank that's duff and not a leak on a filler, vent or output union ? (or some other adjacent water pipe). I don't know of a product you can put in to seal it -- what I would do is drain it and dry all around, as far as possible. Then slowly add some dyed water and see if you can spot the leak point. If you're lucky, you might be able to tackle it externally. If not, if you have to cut it to remove it anyway, are you able to cut an access hatch in it and have it repaired through that ? With access, a very short job with a suitable welding stick. Good luck with it.

Mike.
