At a meeting at Wrenbury Village Hall last night the developers agent revealed plans to close Wrenbury Lift Bridge to boats from 8am - 9.30 am and from 4.30pm - 6pm. every weekday. We were told CRT supports this and the new marina in the centre of Wrenbury

The plans are in for Wrenbury Village Centre Marina http://s1004.photobucket.com/user/enamelgarden/library/?sort=3&page=1 Here, I hope, are two pictures of what the development will look like. There will be a loss of a well used camping and caravan field plus some towpath moorings and I do wonder if the very presence of the marina with its lights and noise will deter boaters from mooring in Wrenbury while cruising, resulting in a loss of income for village businesses. The proposers trumpet the increased business for the local shop, but when I was in a marina I shopped on route in a supermarket and on arrival, I went cruising. There are marinas with empty berths in the vicinity and I wonder what effect 200 extra boats will have on The Llangollen. Delays already happen so will extra boats increase these and deter visitors to the canal either because of time restraints or because it has simply become too hectic ? I appreciate marinas have breathed new life into some of our cities, but in a tiny village its a different story. Should we not fight to preserve the very character of Wrenbury which I am sure many of you will agree has peaceful and pretty towpath moorings with very good facilites. Two pubs, a shop, buses and a train to name just a few. Hello all. We're a group of 5 adults in our 50/60s - two couples, plus 1 and also our dog. My hubby and I have a good deal of river cruiser experience from the Broads (no locks!), but none of us have any useful canal experience. We are hiring from Wrenbury 17th Sept and are soon having a get together to discuss choice of route and catering matters. We have just the week,so doing a ring is not an option. In any event we feel a ring route would put time pressure on us, and being newbies that's not sensible. If we're out/back we can easily revise our turn around point if we're making faster/slower progress than predicted. So, any hints and tips, advice, comment please, such as: Which route to choose? What is a realistic distance to plan for? Is it worth taking fishing gear? On the Broads we fish off the boat of a late pm/evening, but of course this time of year it's likely dark 6/7pm What is the biting insect quotient like in late Sept? Other than "take your time", which we sure will, any tips on mooring/turning the boat? I've seen odd pics of boats moored so far off the bank they need a gangplank to get ashore - is that likely? Anything else you can think of, please share Many thanks for your time and patience!!

wrenbury Proposed Wrenbury Marina Site Could Now Be Houses
The Bratch posted a topic in General Boating
Plans have been submitted for the proposed Wrenbury Marina Site to be 68 houses. Plus there is more land for further houses . The planning number is http://planning.cheshireeast.gov.uk/applicationdetails.aspx?pr=18/0945N&row=1&query=aa14eefc5df24292a35d2db1ff1e4ce9&from=i layout.pdf -
If the new marina in Wrenbury village centre between Church Lift Bridge and Wrenbury Lift Bridge gets planning permission and is built up to 200 feet of moorings could be lost. This is a shame as its peaceful towpath moorings with lots of facilities for boaters including a shop, buses, 2 pubs.
