  1. Slightly off topic, but not totally....

With the new tender system, does the allocation of a specific berth vs right to moor in a section of mooring situation change? They're advertised as being particular berths of particular lengths, regardless of your boat length, so I would guess that this gave the bertholder more rights over his/her bit of bank if they wanted them. My mooring agreement (8 years old) has small print that BW can move me about in the moorings if necessary (though nobody ever has been moored, even to make best use of space), but if you've bid a price for a specific space is that different?

just experienced this, my old mooring was on old system, one i've just won the tender for was new system.

The pic in the advert was of my old mooring, complete with my old steps (which i'd inherited from previous incumbent), so I asked the question, is the tender for that specific mooring, the response was a resounding NO. It would be for a space of XXXX length somewhere along that section of long term mooring.

So I kept nipping up there to see what spaces were available (before I put in a bid) and I couldn't see a gap big enough. I spoke to BW and they sent a bod up with a meauring wheel and 2 ranger types to shift any offending boats. Anyway, all was in order, the boats present were the right boats / lengths as per their records, but when I asked if I could plant a sign I was told no! I will have to sail up, see what's available and ask people to shift. If I don't get any joy I have to moor locally and call BW.

Seems a vague way of doing things

  2. Not sure what that means.

Does boating experience mean your posts counting the pages are any less cryptic?

    No. I think. Erm.

No Dave, I don't know them. I have acknowledged them, on occasion, whilst cruising up and down the Lancaster. The bloke from the house also offered to help when I had a string incident. What an evil homeowner with no time for boats he is.

  3. i agree with some of his argument, in fact some parts of the entire argument. I just don't agree with the way some of the posters on this thread feel these people need to be made to feel more miserable for what seems such a minor 'offence'

They have asked people to not moor there. They haven't demanded. They haven't abused or injured anyone or damaged any property.

You'd think they'd eaten someone's first born or something

  4. Can you suggest some alternative reason for this?

because maybe they would like us mature free thinking adults that we all are to respect their privacy just a tiny bit and moor a few yards further along.

I can't see how you get from posting a polite sign (the key words being 'please' 'respect' and 'thank you') to them wanting to ruin the entire canal network which you clearly have sole rights to for your enjoyment. How dare they enjoy a little piece of it peacefully. Sheesh, these people . . .

I have no objection to anglers drowning maggot opposite my mooring.

I do have an objection to them using the boat to bounce bait off, or tapping on the boat with the end of their penis substitute, because they are trying to get at the fish that are hiding underneath it.

ahhh, so now I see. Interesting  Ever spoken to the fishermen directly or just talked about it on the net?

  5. They are trying it on, to see how much they can "win". I don't like that attitude

you have absolutely no way of knowing that Dave

I don't particularly care whether there is somesingle event that makes them want boaters not to moor there, or just a generalised wish to not have the view spoiled.

and that line sums up how valid YOUR opinion is. (sarcastic smiley here)

  6. who said this home owner had been abusive? Had a quick scoot through the thread, I'm reasonably sure no one has said this.

I said i'd found them polite and helpful in the past?

Might have a drive up to the house at weekend with the laptop, ask them if they're interested in commenting.

I'd be interested to know if it was an individual event or just a general anti - canal / boating thing they have going on.

I'd kinda like to know both sides of the story before condemning them as the anti-christ

  7. Short walk to The Bay Horse pub and the views are fine. We all want different things when we cruise now I don't want to be close to the action. It also is in a spot with nice country walks.

and mooring a few yards further along, maybe on the other side of the bridge, would completely stop you from enjoying any of these things wouldn't it?

  8. probably get shouted down here but what the hell . .

I don't know the people who own the house on the Lancaster, but I did sail past it quite a few times when I had my cruiser on there 2 or so years ago.

Whenever I saw them out in the garden , they always said hello, were always polite, the guy even offered to help when I picked up some string on my prop

As far as my memory serves me, there's nothing of any interest on that section of canal to warrant a stopover as such, there's no view to speak of, no pubs, no shops, yet there is all these 'attractions' within easy sailing time.

Can appreciate the wording of the sign might antagonise some of the more militant people on the cut, but are you all getting excited about nothing? Really?

Leave them be, moor a bit further away, let them live peacefully as you all bang on about wanting to do.

And if you really feel an urge to moor up for the purpose of staring into someones life, give it a month or so, i'll have my new boat on the Lancaster and you can all come and stare at my hairy butt dancing round my boat
