  1. when i was sinking 3 years ago the method i described worked well when you remove the drive shaft and stern tube the water pressure holds the bag in the hole knocking the prop of is a bit of a task but it can be done usually loose the key way without the expense of dry docking

i was a bit worried when i did it but if you look back to the old man o wars if they got shot below the water line they just dragged a sail over the hole and the water pressure held it in place

  2. similar suggestion that i have done twice

    1 remove prop

2 get a good heavy duty plastic bag

3 put plastic bag over the prop shaft thru the weed hatch

4 fasten plstic bag around weld in section on the hull withh bungee chords tight

5 remove stern tube inside as described earlier if you have enough room prop shaft as well

no water will come inside if you do it like that

    good luck

  3. I agree what carl is saying, my summary is how I think they see it in the big picture and the motivation for doing it. I am against any sell off to private hands and most development as its unsightly and lacks any sympathy with heritage. I am attempting to explain what is happening.

Linear development raises the cash to be spent on the waterways, property development is the main way they raise the cash

    Charles

spend the money they get on anything to do with more development as long as it has nothing to do with boats

  4. Hi there,

When you say ciculation pump I assume you mean heating circulation. If so I recommend A Bolin pump, very reliable & miniscule current draw. Also very quiet running, we have ours running for months at a time when the oil heating's on. You'll find them on the web.

    Regards,

    Pete.

thanx do you know anyone who stocks them ive crawled internet can not find anybody who stocks them

  5. Newark Marina, on the trent has a large cradle that would do it I'm sure, then you're straight down the A46 to Bath or where-ever.

Likewise, Castle Marina at Nottingham has a good sized cradle too. You have the M1 and A46 within easy reach from there.

Farndon Marina, on the Trent near Newark has a crane, but they also transport boats too, so you could just use one company to lift and move your boat instead of two separate ones.

Castle marina cradle is not big enough only for narrow beam

  6. possible option for you had the same problem on a friends boat allmost exactly the same set up as yours except for the flex pipe

we solved the problele by carefully cutting a slot in the top of the elbow down to the thead trying not to nick it to much then cut the elbow of alll we did then was fit a new elbow using exhaust assembley paste much safer than damaging the manifold if you do this you maybe able to waggle the flex pipe of the manifold by putting a bit of pipe or brush handle down through the pipe

  7. went down the trent to lincoln 10 days ago from nottingham being a bit nervous about it being tidal from cromwell onwardsit is not as daunting as you think if the conditions arent right for the passage the lock keepers wont let you go anyway there are a few signs on the banks warning of submerged islands keep left or right although i did run aground 3 times no signs were present on those occasions

sugest you travel with another boat as i found it to be a tedious trip not a lot to see

there are no moorings in brayford pool either which i was a bit dissapointing.

  8. As I updated my Witham guide recently, you might just like to take a look.

Remember there are no visitor moorings in the Brayford at the moment, other than the marina near the west entrance.

found that out last week there are a few moorings just before the pool not many about 3 we moored just thru the glory hole there is a gate you can get thru without climbing over the fence

  9. i HAD ONE OF THESE SURVEYS SENT TO ME IN THE POST ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO MOST OF THE MOORERS WERE I AM HAD ONE

  10. My boat's coming out the water in a couple of weeks for blacking. Prior to blacking I'm going to use International Primocon primer around the waterline (or right down to the baseplate if I've got enough of the stuff). I'd like to take what remains of the existing blacking off first, so what's the best method? Wire wheel on a drill? (Sound's like it would take all week) Any other suggestions?

    Thanks

    Mike

using a grinder with a wire wheel will only heat up the bitcho and also with sanding wheels the same will happen they just clog up only way realy is sand blast or what i did i burnt it of with a big big blow torch the ones they remove road markings with
