1 litre gear oil bottle would do the job
thats what i do or a fairy liquid bottle and some airline that you use on fish tanks

Having been up and down this canal quite a bit one does find the wedges/bolts loose and I get the impression that they need to be checked regular and fixed tight or as the gates get hit/close/ opened that collar can get looser and looser.
I have got a lump hammer out and tightened the odd wedge before now. It's the same as going and sending water down if a pound is empty. Years ago it was normal to try to fix things. Now in our Nanny state a lot of boaters wouldn't dirty their hands.
Im sure that if there was enough boaters around on this lock they could have lifted it back on

dave clarke also at boughton camp ollerton(the original partner of R&D)

can you disconnect the cable at the gear box and try forwards neutral and reverse with no cables connected if you can its likely that the cable/s need adjusting,
if it doesnt work there maybe something wrong with gearbox but unlikely

Going anti clockwise the last lock on the Soar appears to be Ratcliffe then the Trent then Sawley Locks is this the 30 minutes Denboy or am I reading the map incorrectly? Which is the manned lock I like the sound of that!
radcliffe is the last lock apart from redhill flood lock which should be open from radcliffe to sawley lock around 40 min sawley is manned then you have sawley flood lock should be open and its abot 15 min from there to derwent mouth 1o min to shardlow pubs

To stop it rusting and tainting the water

Anyone fancy helping to get my boat from Willington to Loughborough, Friday afternoon and Saturday?
Original 'crew' can't get the Saturday off work
If you can get to trent lock for frid roughly 6 oclock we can go down together
-
if the wedges have come out of the collar it could easily have just fell off
-
advice for the trent ......you will be on for around 30 minutes from derwent mouth to soar mouth 1 manned lock in normal working hours then on the soar an anchor is not compulsory
-
not sure on that, but i would connect it direct to batty`s thru the cig lighter and i think you would loose a lot of power from the panel due to the wire loss, leccy experts will be along to tell me i is wrong

Hi friends,
going for a solo trip along the Ashby in october, just checking there are no problems, and looking for any updates to pubs closed down etc. nothing worse than getting all neatly moored for the night and then finding the pub is no more!
duztee
At the rate they are closing down there might not be any left by October

You are probably thinking of Ray Cullis - who used to be the only member of Nottingham's now disbanded River Police Unit! Also ex Royal Navy and now running Trent Boat Handling & Afloat Training Courses.
Highly recommended and especially good with with those who may have a few qualms about taking charge on the water.
Thats him

thats the one i referred to in original post it isnt accurate thanks anyway
Are you familiar with the procedure thanks
yep that guide does work i even managed it
on your pic in phot bucket under the pic you want the last set of goggledegook is IMG code right click on that and select copy then when you want to put pic on forum in a topic right click again and select paste the gobbledegook should appear, then select submit or reply and presto it should work
