A friend of mine is on a hire boat down there, he sent me a text yesterday to say police were looking for someone who had been taking pot shots at boats with an air rifle

I had one die on me just the same, just didn't have enough power to turn the engine fast enough to start. Replacement starter did the trick.

This was a slightly less successful attempt (if the link works)

Yello,
I wondered who on the forum played electric guitar, on board, whilst not hooked up ?
I'm looking for a valve combo that can rock the boat in sound terms ... but not kill my battery pack too quickly ?
I'm thinking a small 18 watt or maybe even 5 watt valve combo to replace my 2 x 40 watt Marshall IC combo.
I like dirty valve sounds at lower volumes ..... overdrive rules !
Malc.
BTW .. I'm not a financially rich man ATM.
Try a Blackstar HT 1 watt valve amp

Having not been unable to access Apollo Duck via Orange Broadband for months I now use, on the suggestion of Nigel Carton, http://proxify.com which allows you to sneak in via the back door! Orange (on their unhelp line) are Adam Ant it is nothing they're doing and says it must be Apollo Duck blocking access.
So a bit clumsy but at least I now am able to drool over the best boat porn site on the net.

Thanks from me too - lots of drooling to catch up on

It's an Orange thing!, not been able to get on for weeks, thinking of packing in Orange because of it, as I'm getting no joy with the help lines

Ours cracked last winter during a cold spell, The fire was not lit, but the door was locked, I think the door distorted enough to crack the glass with the metal contracting and putting pressure on the door, we leave the door open now so far no more problems

It still seems unreasonable to doubt her word without having any objective evidence either way.
The webasto in our car is extremely quiet. Does that help?

I think that it would be hard to argue that either solid fuel or gas heating on a boat creates a significant sound nuisance.
Richard
What about someone filling their coal scuttle from a bag of solid fuel on the front deck late at night after they have come back from the pub - That Is LOUD!!

A few years ago we had a mink that decided to live under the front deck of an old narrow boat we had. The first we knew was one day on a Sunday cruise with friends the wife was making a cup of tea in the galley and saw it looking through the window at her. Once the screaming stopped we quickly pulled in to the bank and encouraged it with a boat pole to abandon ship.
When we lifted the deck the smell and mess was horrendous, Feathers and fish bones everywhere It took hours to clean out and repaint. All gaps were sealed and never saw any sign of it again - it was a couple of miles away from our mooring though where it jumped ship

Trans Pennine Canal (L&L) 1972 film
in General Boating
Posted
This brings back memories of my first outing on a canal at 12 years old. My parents bought a clinker built day boat and trailer in 1972 (Same year as this film), we launched it for the first time in Leeds basin on the slipway which is directly behind and to the left of Nairn at he end of the film when he's talking to camera (29:36).
We sailed up and down the canal basin for a while and then negotiated Office lock. It seemed so deep at the time, but it's quite a shallow lock in reality.
I also have a vague memory of a disused lock under the arches which went onto the river. The lock and the slipway are long gone of course, but i kept an interest in canals from that day. My parents had boats until the late 70's and i've kept the tradition going up to the present day
Reminiscing over!
