  1. Talking about throwing a "deafie" we saw you on the bridgewater charles and i shouted " hiya charles" twice !

selective hearing ? - or did you think you were being told to "slow down" and didnt look at who was calling your name ? :P and no you werent going tooooo

    fast when we saw you....

  2. Whats the best product i can use to "black" the solid fuel fire on the boat?

last boat we had i used something( ive forgot the name of) and when the fire was lit we had a boat full of choking smoke! had to scrub the fire to get rid of whatever id put on, took ages to get most of it off...

  3. Went to get one yesterday when the offer started.. got there at around 9-30 am- SOLD OUT, grr

i asked the assistant where they were in the shop and he said "all gone sorry"

we had people here waiting for us to open ... i was not amused, bet they only had a couple to bl**dy sell!

    rant over ....

  4. Weve just bought some "revive power paste" (off the telly) its supposed to bring even hard baked on gunk

off pans which it doesnt!! tried it on the brass portholes on the boat ....absolutley brilliant with just a gentle rub, bought 4- 375g tubs for £13.00, should last for ages as you only need a bit, and the portholes havent been done for at least 12 months ( been to busy with other things on the boat)

no acid, non caustic and no smell as it says on the tub

  6. Our fireplace needs tiling, it was "just painted" when we bought the boat.

It has a back boiler so tiling is going to be a pain because of the pipes! We dont want the hassle of removing the stove if we can get round another way of either tiling or using something else

a bit different than tiles, any suggestions ? :)

  7. i am absolutely made up with the portrayal of my locality in this programme indeed the programme as a whole was excellent.

    well done granada and thanks.

the charity boat pride of sefton stopped and gave me and the children a ride and that is the day the kids said dad we want a boat on the canal.

the skipper on the boat in the programme sorted out my mooring ropes i.e he made the loops in the ends when the boat was launched and he is truly a gent on the cut around here.

he passed on his collection of old waterway mags to me for reading when i told him i was getting a boat, the parties of disabled people ,pensioners groups ect that he takes out always seem to be having a great time.

the place shown when the heron was taking of from the bank was our swimming baths when we were kids.

i am so glad at the way the area was shown :):)

i hope it now encourages some boats to make the journey to eldonian village.

Dont forget to watch it next week gaggle! My eyes were scanning for any familiar faces

  8. About three to four years ago the bridgewater canal was frozen solid

3-4 inches depth, the boats and moorings looked "breathtaking" plenty of photos taken of the canal that year by people. probably be the same this year if the forecast is right

  9. I decided this summer I wanted to live on a boat. I've always loved boat and its a heluva lot cheaper than getting a flat. Two months later I moved onto my brand new aquisition! I surprised myself by how fairly easy it was to find a mooring and the boat itself. Granted it took a month and a half to find, but within two weeks of seeing the advert it was moored up 300 miles north of where I bought it ready for me to get aboard.

She's pretty old (built in 1972) but the surveyor was quite happy with the state of the steel and the fit out is brand new (well a year old) quite modern and exactly what I was after. It was higher quality and more suitable than boats we saw for 15-20k more.

    I'm pretty chuffed AND I'm only 21.

Well done! my son whos 20 has his own narrowboat but wants a bigger one to live on, his is 30ft. Enjoy your life on your boat chris , best of luck trish :P

  10. Hi, we have a twin coil calorifier as in we can heat the water by running the engine or by lighting the stove.

Obviously, we will be putting anti-freeze in the engines cooling system but how do we go about sorting the domestic water system against winter freezes?

We will be draining off some water so the tank remains half full and we will drain off the pipes to the taps.. but how do we stop the water in the calorifier freezing if it gets really cold?

If we were to run the engine what would happen as there wasnt any water to heat?

    would this cause any issues?

Its our 1st winter on our new boat so any advice greatly appreciated

    Trish
