Yes there is.
@casper ghost's parents had one on their boat, but I don't know what it was. He might!
My parents have an Esse. It's like an Aga but a bit smaller.

It costs nothing ,and he will get a "Relief from payment" order from the court ......which is an official document ,and can be used against the fuellies if they should put him on a credit watch list.,or try to do something more unsavory such as sell his debt to shonky lawyers ........which will cause all sorts of drama for him.
Relief from payment order is only really for people who can't afford to pay their debts and seek a court order so they can have a pause on payments, not much help in this case.

Am a missing something here?
Loads of gobbledegook about batteries, alternators etc.
Wouldn't the simplest answer to having hot water without running the engine, is to fit an instant hot water gas heater.
I'm not against the idea of a gas water heater, but I was trying to think of an easier idea with less work for me.. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be one. For now i'll have to stick to boiling pots of water and put the engine cooling back into the calorifier.

I measured the surface area (radiant area) of both the stove and the flue, they were almost identical.
It seems pretty ridiculous, to me, to be sending in half of your produced heat up the flue and out of the chimney, when it could be radiant heat inside the boat.
Having a twin wall fkue means you need to burn a lot more fuel to get the same heating inside the boat.
I think it's because they want the stove to draw better...

Depends how big a hole you want in your roof!
Twin wall is a waste on a boat IMHO.
It isn't for me, but someone I know wants to do it, ideally they'd like to keep the cast iron flange, wondered what other people had done? I'm sticking to single skin, worked fine on our boats for 40 years..

I have a question about twin wall, if you already have the cast iron, through roof flange, can a twin wall be retro-fitted? What goes through the roof part? obviously a twin wall wont fit. Thanks

Of course I meant overcooled.
The engine is likely over cooled as there's no thermostat.
I could get a 1500w 240v heater and just run a Genny, especially if I plumbed the engine cooling back through the calorifier again. I do have a lever to direct the cooling water just through it and avoid the swim tank.

This is going to take a long time to warm with a 600w element.
Other question is what is the calorifier currently heated by?
It seems odd to have one on a boat and for it to not be connected to the engine cooling circuit.
Is this a Neverspacher problem?
The calorifier used to be heated with the engine, but since I changed the engine I haven't plumbed it in. The new/older engine doesn't get very hot unless I'm cruising. I'm now looking at ways to get hot water for the bath. Yesterday I just boiled pans of water but it'd be nice to have hot water.

Wash less often ?
That was always fine for me but not the young lady 😂

What engine is it?
Ruston and Hornsby 1VSH. It won't get hot unless I'm cruising.

Ok, so 12v doesn't sound good. I used to have 2 domestic batteries, but I just have 1 now as my usual electric consumption is very low. The alternator is 70 or 75 amp.
Just now, magnetman said:Also a 600watt immersion heater is going to take a long time to heat water.
How big is the clorifier and someone will be able to do the math.
10 gallon, so a fairly little one.

Hi. I only have 1 115ah domestic battery, but I'd like to run a small immersion heater, probably a 12 v one. My battery bank won't be up to it, but, if I only ever use it with the engine running, will it run off my alternator, it's a fairly standard alternator, think 70 or 75 amp. I just didn't know if alternator going through the battery would then run the immersion heater, which is probably about 600 watts 12v. It's either that or use a 240v and start a Genny...
Thanks.

I always worry about these bald, unsupported statements of FACT (e.g. "Discovered it needs a new baseplate") when these 'facts' are so often nothing of the sort, and just a matter of opinion.
Often the opinion being from someone with some sort of financial interest in the owner having said work done.
What we'll never know is whether a survey would have helped. I don't really hold much with them, but for the money these old boats are selling for i'd want to view it out of the water.

According to whom, and based on what?
Or did it actually sink?
I don't know the answer to those points, only that she says that's what happened.

There's a noobie vlogger on youtube who bought a boat off a friend, knowing it had been well looked after, for £35k, then found out it needed a complete new base plate, but also the previous overplating needed removing. Cost £12k.. She bought without a survey..

Indeed, replace it with a decent one before it fails... I've seen them fail both on and off I.e. you either can't turn it on or can't turn it off!!
What would be considered a decent one as our boats will almost certainly have the cheapest that were available at the time.

Just ban engines of more than 1 cylinder 🤣

I've just completed the survey, the questions are a bit like being asked how you'd like to be shot, all the options I don't agree with.
It does say above inflation rises for the next 10 years...

I see they're also "consulting" about the Llangollen basin moorings, with a view to double the overnight mooring charge, and something about locals moaning about engines, so no doubt that'll be more signage..

Thought I would put a video of my boat with it's little engine. Can't remember if I ever did after not being on here for a while.

A lot of the old banterers don't get on here any more but I can contact quite a few via Facebook. It's been a long time since we last had a good banter.
I haven't been on here for ages. It's certainly been a long time since I went to a banter.
