It costs nothing ,and he will get a "Relief from payment" order from the court ......which is an official document ,and can be used against the fuellies if they should put him on a credit watch list.,or try to do something more unsavory such as sell his debt to shonky lawyers ........which will cause all sorts of drama for him.

Relief from payment order is only really for people who can't afford to pay their debts and seek a court order so they can have a pause on payments, not much help in this case.

    Am a missing something here?

Loads of gobbledegook about batteries, alternators etc.

Wouldn't the simplest answer to having hot water without running the engine, is to fit an instant hot water gas heater.

I'm not against the idea of a gas water heater, but I was trying to think of an easier idea with less work for me.. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be one. For now i'll have to stick to boiling pots of water and put the engine cooling back into the calorifier.

I measured the surface area (radiant area) of both the stove and the flue, they were almost identical.

It seems pretty ridiculous, to me, to be sending in half of your produced heat up the flue and out of the chimney, when it could be radiant heat inside the boat.

Having a twin wall fkue means you need to burn a lot more fuel to get the same heating inside the boat.

I think it's because they want the stove to draw better...

This is going to take a long time to warm with a 600w element.

Other question is what is the calorifier currently heated by?

It seems odd to have one on a boat and for it to not be connected to the engine cooling circuit.

    Is this a Neverspacher problem?

The calorifier used to be heated with the engine, but since I changed the engine I haven't plumbed it in. The new/older engine doesn't get very hot unless I'm cruising. I'm now looking at ways to get hot water for the bath. Yesterday I just boiled pans of water but it'd be nice to have hot water.

    Ah OK..Stationary hot water.

    Wash less often ?

That was always fine for me but not the young lady 😂

  5. Ok, so 12v doesn't sound good. I used to have 2 domestic batteries, but I just have 1 now as my usual electric consumption is very low. The alternator is 70 or 75 amp.

Also a 600watt immersion heater is going to take a long time to heat water.

How big is the clorifier and someone will be able to do the math.

10 gallon, so a fairly little one.

  6. Hi. I only have 1 115ah domestic battery, but I'd like to run a small immersion heater, probably a 12 v one. My battery bank won't be up to it, but, if I only ever use it with the engine running, will it run off my alternator, it's a fairly standard alternator, think 70 or 75 amp. I just didn't know if alternator going through the battery would then run the immersion heater, which is probably about 600 watts 12v. It's either that or use a 240v and start a Genny...

    Thanks.

I always worry about these bald, unsupported statements of FACT (e.g. "Discovered it needs a new baseplate") when these 'facts' are so often nothing of the sort, and just a matter of opinion.

Often the opinion being from someone with some sort of financial interest in the owner having said work done.

What we'll never know is whether a survey would have helped. I don't really hold much with them, but for the money these old boats are selling for i'd want to view it out of the water.

  8. There's a noobie vlogger on youtube who bought a boat off a friend, knowing it had been well looked after, for £35k, then found out it needed a complete new base plate, but also the previous overplating needed removing. Cost £12k.. She bought without a survey..

A lot of the old banterers don't get on here any more but I can contact quite a few via Facebook. It's been a long time since we last had a good banter.

I haven't been on here for ages. It's certainly been a long time since I went to a banter.
