There is but according to their profile that is not the name of their boat.
Quite right Martin. It is not my boat. Hopefully, despite the bad weather, it is still in Worcestershire.

We have ended up living on the boat for a while by default. We put the house up for sale with a view to downsizing and the market was very sluggish. After only a couple of weeks SWMBO spotted a bungalow which we ended up buying, so we now had 2 properties.
The obvious solution was to rent it out and shortly after the house sold, so now we have a tenant in the bungalow, no longer have a house, so the boat was the obvious solution. Its been about 6 weeks and so far so good. Worldly accumulated goods in a shipping container, a close relatives address for post, and money in the bank!
I dont think we will be rushing back to the bungalow, but then again, we haven't made it through a winter yet.

We put citronella candles in various corners and have convinced ourselves that it is effective for deterring them harmlessly

Our current narrowboat mooring is £37.50 per annum per foot. Our next one (soon) will be £47.36 per annum per foot. Both in the West Midlands.

Another brick less to worry about

Your options will depend on the size of the boat you buy

Stoppage at lock 4 for two days due to a large hole appearing in tow path at top gate, lock is drained down and stop planks in place
Several boats have left diglis via seven and so water level has gone quite alot and not being replaced.
Stoppage is due to finish tomorrow midday if they don,nt find anything nasty that won,nt wait till stoppage season ,if they do it could be closed for sometime.

I'll take a look later today then and see if its fixed. That could scupper the plans for a trip out over the bank holiday

Well maybe, but it isn't normally like this and has been back up to normal levels in between times. Do locks suddenly go leaky?
-
On 2 separate occasions this week I have walked past the pond between the 2 river locks leading onto the Severn and the level has been at least 2 feet lower than normal. This morning it would have been too low for navigation.
Anyone know what's going on?

Could be useful to make sure the dog doesn't run off last thing at night

Its definately a bit of a black art. I find that a compass (away from close proximity to the boat) and a spirit level to be essential. Once you can establish roughly where the satellite should be, and that it is clear of obstructions, the LNB has to be off set (rotated)at a small angle but the arm holding the dish should be level left to right and marginally lower than level back to front. It does take paractise, but is good when it all comes together. My early experience gave me as much of a headache just getting the boxes to talk to each other as the alignment.

There must be something in the air at the moment.
As you were writing your last post, we were moving the last bits and pieces on to our 57 foot boat, having just sold the house. We are giving it a try to see how things go and have rented out our "bolt hole". We are of a similar age to you both so if you do take the plunge it will be interesting to compare notes in a few months time. I must admit I have been quite inspired by Starcoaster on this forum who, if you read some of her threads, seems to have been totally inspired by the experience and has a lovely way of saying it the way it is.

I lost my Blackberry in the River Avon last year. A friend offered to call it so it could be located - didn't work

Speaking as one who does not get out of Diglis as often as I would like, it is not about lack of enthusiasm its about lack of opportunity despite the best laid plans

That's put the moka's on it, then.
Ahhh, but nothing compares to a nice cup of tea!
-
Alan, its disappointing not to see your name there, I thought your campaign was excellent.
-
Yes agreed, 2 days is not too daunting. Nice pub at the bottom of Tardebigge and adequate places to stop. I'm moored at Diglis, if you need any further info.

How big is your battery bank?
4 x 110 amp leisure
-
Stubag a.k.a. Lightning, yes!
-
I also have the 16amp version which I leave permanently connected whilst in the marina.
The boat is only used for leisure purposes so no load when connected and, so far, it seems to have worked fine after about 2 years of similar use.
I hadn't considered that there may be a benefit in putting a timer on it CT, and as I've not had any issues thus far, don't know if it would be beneficial.

Thanks for the prompt Alan, I'd somehow got it into my head that the closing date was the end of the month. Anyhow, now voted.

We named our boat for amusement but when this subject came up previously, I rather liked Mrs Bridges.
I wonder if any of the few horse driven boats left on the system will rename their boat Orson CaRT.

Mine was an evening moored in the middle of now where above Northmoor lock on the river Thames.
I sat in a field and watched and listened the world go to sleep and the night creatures wake up. It was one of those magical times when everything seemed to happen because it had time to.....
Crows gathered in nearby trees before heading of some where to roost. A herd of cows munched their way past. Pheasants calling in the dusk. A herd of deer moved slowly across the field opposite - on their way to where? Swallows dipping in to the river and having a last feed on the ever growing midge population. Moorhens flapping and ducks quacking in the distance. A swan glides past through the slowly rising mist.
As darkness falls the bats come out to feed. An owl hoots from the nearby woods. The stars come out to light up the night sky. A calmness falls on to the river and the fields...........
I didn't want to go in......... Fantastic
That very succinctly sums up so many of the things my wife and I enjoy about being out on the narrowboat ....aaaaah

I have a feeling this could muddy the waters further. Our hull was built in 2007 by a Steve Heywood of Heywood Boat Builders.
just finished reading narrow margins
