  1. The heater used in the uk to marine spec is the evo 5.5 being .5kw over 5kw on boost this heater can also be used for cold air circulation in the summer

All new webasto marine heater sold and comisioned by a main distributor carry a three year warrenttee from jan this year. Water heaters and air heaters.

if you need an email of the spec call me at kingslock

  2. remove the balast resistor and fit led tubes I will do one for you in the shop at kingslock if you want just pay for the bulbs, you will not look back

just to check we are talking about the tubes that are about 10 inch. Do not try to fit with the resistor fitted

  3. with all due respect to all posts if this engine also has vetus stern gear, proir to fitting any flexible stern gear you may need to add a plumb block to suport the shaft as to much movment of the shaft will cause the vetus self aligning bearing to wear and cause the dual lip seal to fail.

You can make the whole thing to flexible with the vetus stern gear

  4. Hi all

Where can I buy a Webasto glow plug cheaper than £68.00?

I hope some one can help - it seems alot of money

    Alex

Call Steve at kingslock chandlery or selby before any smart arse comments both are webasto main dealers and any one following this thread by means of searching for any answers we guarding webasto parts the answers are there,

  5. My apologies, it is currently an Eberspacher Hydronic D5W 12v Narrow Boat - Diesel 5.2KW

    Hope this helps.

You may be better having a smaller heater fitted that works hard as most Narrowboats cannot accommodate 5kw worth of rads to make any heater work hard all hater with not enought thermal load will cause issues. No mater what make webasto unit tend to be more tolerant

You need to work out you're thermal load simply measure your rads and look up there out put prior to fixing or replaceing your heater you need to match the load to the heater to get reliable system

For more info call Steve at Kingslock Chandlery

  6. That's interesting, I didn't consider that so thanks

Hi please remember webasto units are also available as 4.2 kw and your thermal load should be equal or 10% in advance of the heater output

Some nice funky looking rads have very little out put also do not mix antifreeze at more than 25% to water as it reduces heat transmit ion

If in any doubt or more assistance is required call Steve at Kingslock Chandlery

  7. After 4 years at Venetian we have decided to relocate the logburning stove center and chandlery back to Kings Lock.

Anyone passing Kings Lock in the last week or so would have notices the building work and the new gates being fitted, the shop is being extended before christmas. We aticipate the work to be completed by the end of January.

This move is to focus our efforts on one site and offer a greater level of service from Kings Lock, I is fare to say that some of our efforts have been diluted in recent times, being on two sites and the problems that go with this. The hope is that I can wear a smile more often without the worry of two shops.

We would like to thank all of our customers and hope to see you all in due course, wishing you the best of seasonal greatings. As normal we are offering a mince pie and sherry in December to our customers.

We are not sure as to the date we will close Venetian Chandlery but it will be in the new year. Up until then both shops they are open as normal.

Our core focus is now:- Chandlery, Boat Building, Boat Repairs, Stove Sales, Brokerage, all at Kings Lock.

This the first phase of the changes at Kings Lock we are currently costing a new development.

    Best Regards,

    Stephen Wedgwood.

  8.

a vetus 55kgf is just the ticket for the job if the boat has an integral water tank it can be mouted to the cabin side getting it as far under the water as possible, a usefull web site is www.vetusretail.co.uk the kits on there! if the boats out of the water its a two day job speaking from first hand experiance.

We've got a new place to moor (saving £800 per year!) but it is impossible to get in and out without sinking half a dozen tupperwares.

We've decided a bow thruster might be a good idea.

Can anyone offer advice on the best make and what sort of size/power do I need?

Our boat is a Liverpool cruiser 45 ft long.

    Many thanks,

    Gordon in Ely, Cambs

a vetus 55kgf will do the job just fine if your boat has an integral water tank you can mount the tube just towards the cabin side of the tank to get the tube as far under the water as possible, instalation would take two days start to finish aprox!

i speak from first had experiance use full web site is www.vetusretail.co.uk the kit is on there!

    Best of look.

  9. Help required for the second time in just over a year? Lets hope that there is some light at the end of the tunnel for any creditors. It is easy for people to be 'successful' on the backs of creditors (for a short while at least)

our self's somebody who supplies the trade have a view, somtimes its better to stand by a bussiness that's got some problems rather than force them into liquidation. That way you stand more chance of get whats owed to you. And the customer gets what they have paid for. Of course every situation is different, and all I was trying to say is let the fact's come out. Let hope for a good out come for all the customers and suppliers!

  10. You're right, carlt.I'm very sorry to hear of Barry Hawkins closing down.As an ex-boatbuilder,I always found his&Mel Davis' boat's to be the prettiest, most individual boats around.A sad loss.

Lets be carefull a meeting of creditor's is after all what it say's, it does not follow that is the end their are lots of possible out comes. The last thing needed at this point for Barry Hawkins is to much negertive press in advance of the meeting of creditors. Help is what is required, let's hope there is some light at the end of the tunnel?

  11. Try running it on a reduced voltage, eg by adding a power resistor inline.

As an aside, 24V gulpers can sometimes be had quite cheaply on Ebay, in my experience when run on 12V they keep fine up with the flow from a boat shower.

I had planned to run it from a 12->15..24V car laptop adapter but didn't need to in the end.

Fairly quiet too, more of a 'slurper'

    cheers,

    Pete.

buy the gulper I have had 2 service kit on my shelf for 3 birthday that say's it all!

  12. Cow Roast Marina on the Southern GU are also dealers for Webasto (Call Darren Killick on 07941 240024)

    Chris

Nice one Chris the main distributor down there is a company called (Keto) who supplies them, I did not want to leave any body out but I was thinking inland waterways. All of the firms I listed are main distributors. We then have sub dealers for every distributors to get support across the country. Sorry if it looked looked loke I left them out.

  13. Ordered from these guys - http://www.jpcdirect.co.uk/

They were at the London boat show but still managed to deliver next day.

    Thanks JPC

JPC Direct Ltd are not Webasto dealers, and were asked to leave the stand at london boat show, you may be better off using authorised dealers / distriubutors to get full support if you needed it, call one of these depending on where you are for new heaters help and spares;-

    Yorkshire/Northeast/Cumbria (Selby Boat Center)

    Staffordshire/Shropshire/Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire/Cheshire/Merseyside/Lancashire/ (Kings Lock Chandlery)

    Birmingham and below (Amber Boats)

Fitted correctly they are a good heater but stay away from very cheep imports as they are not marine spec no warrentee (remember if it sounds to good to be true it is!)

  14. A V weld is commonly used to weld sections of base plate where a surface butt weld would not achieve sufficient penetration.

The edges of the plate are ground to a chamfer when the plates are butted up this forms a V several stick welds are then run down the V to stitch the plate together forming a very strong weld. This also makes it unnecessary to flip the base plate to weld the other side.

Thats in a non welders layman's terms!

    Gary

You do need to check for penitration and more often then not weld the under side to eliminate crevice corrosion. As we have had to do on hulls from some boat builders. The main tool used by welders now seem to be mig welders even below the water line. Hense the penertration is some time lacking.

The correct method of formation of a v weld is:-

Grind both plates at 45 degrees

    Leavea gap between the plates

Run a root weld in the base of the joint

Run a cap weld over so the the v is completly filled.

  15. Thanks for the advice - just one question: how long (roughly) does a cassette last you? Would you recommend getting the manual flush instead so it lasts longer?

It may last slightly longer but you have to fill it up which is a pain if you forget.

Our c200cs is 202.99 but if you buy your spare cassette at the same time you will get 10% off the cassette. Bringing the whole amount to 265.98.

    Best Regards.

    Steve

  16. Thanks for the advice - just one question: how long (roughly) does a cassette last you? Would you recommend getting the manual flush instead so it lasts longer?

Our c200cs cassette loo is 202.99 however if you buy your spare cassette at the same time the whole lot is only 265.98 a saveing of 7.00

And you dont have to go to wolverhampton, our pump toilet kit holding tank is 215ltr and will fit under a bed

If that's no help drink or eat less!

    Best Regards,

    Steve

  17. I do wholeheartedly agree with you Richard, we have had good help from Steve. I was just answering the querie re Red diesel prices though and why we don't get it from there at the moment.

We discount the price of diesel by 1p per litre off the pump price for purchases over 100 litres.

  18. It does cost 40p at Kings Lock now but we don't buy there because since the new owners have taken over you can never get in because of boats moored in front that are being fitted out. As moorers when Mick owned it we could get 5p per L knocked off, but not now.

Oweing to our boat building program yes there have been some slight restrictions these restrictions are now being brought to an end, with the investment of a new pump and hose of over 40ft in lengh. I have to question the discount however give the fact that I worked for mick for eigth months before taking over the shop on the 10th of july last year. We do now offer discounts on delivery in exess of 100ltr this was not the case prior to that date. Please give me a call any time.

    Best Regards

    Steve Wedgwood

    The new owner!
