  1. I have to say Mr Parry seems a breath of fresh air in comparison to the previous incumbent ans I am pleased we have him.

Not so impressed at the money still being wasted on stuff like VM projects while lock aprons collapse despite the need for repair being obvious and visible, yet ignored for years. But I suppose he can't do everything first. At least Mr Whyatt have been promoted to somewhere he has less influence and can do less damage.

Anyway back on topic, can you imagine the conspiracy theories that will abound if our Mr Parry WINS the canal triathlon?!

    MtB.

Oy, you can keep him in SE as far as I am concerned. As a BWML customer (although I do not feel like a customer only a cash cow) I am dreading his tenure. The previous incumbent was bad enough.

However Richard Parry is so enthusiastic, approachable and not Government brainwashed that I hope he can change the mind set of his fellow tunnel vision directors and some senior managers!

  2. Possibly - we turned in it at Easter and it seemed quite roomy (Trojan is only 45 feet long so we had ample space). Someone on here with a really long boat will be able to tell us, I'm sure.

EDIT: and right on time, along came John. Thanks for the info, John.

    Any Vikings around?
  3. Well yes, its all down to spotting them. I had someone before who spent months in email correspondence wanting change after change. In the end I thought he was being so picky with every detail that it simply wasn't worth the sale.

I am worried that even if he now pays for me to make some lids that I am leading myself for more complaints. I bet I will send the lids to him and he will say that it hasn't made any difference and that he wants a refund. Am I within my rights to say I wont sell him anything more and that if he is not happy he can return the boxes?

Since he never made delivery date the essence of the contract then he has no case.

Since he has made alterations to the product by varnishing etc, he is deemed to have accepted the product.

Under the distance selling regulations I believe he has 14 days to return the goods in their original condition for a full refhnd, excluding postage.

I do not believe your customer has a leg to stand on.

Ignore all future demands and wait for results.

I accept no liability for incorrect advice.

  4.

But the wheezingy sort of noise is almost as bad as the snooring and the elephants trunk is a little off putting during those intimate moments (maybe I'm going about it the wrong way - is she supposed to be awake ?)

But they arevery usefull for pressurizing a siphon feedbubble stove fuel tank to initiate flow.
  5. Sponge rubber ear plugs are what we use - both of us snore very 'badly' (but we are practising daily)

Quality ear plugs as used by shooters are ideal.

Cheap ones are not so good.

We have tried, pills, potions, creams, wire nose grips. the wife even has a machine that breathes for her (plugs into the elec)

    Nowt works.

My CPAP machine works well according to SWMBO. I keep asking her to get one!
  6. Only if your partner is not properly boat-trained! And whose fault is that?

But I suppose it can happen. When we had Jeff's parents staying on the boat, his mum was trying to be helpful preparing breakfast and before I could scream had turned on the 2kw electric kettle and the 900w toaster, with the TV, sat box, oven (gas but with mains fan) already on. Fortunately I managed to turn the kettle off before something blew! (2500VA inverter).

Some people are just beyond being capable of training. No names.
  7. I don't think they can legally chare you for fuel with its volume based on a dipstick reading. If they sell fuel, and this is effectively what's happening, then they'd need to have a calibrated flowrate nozzle/pump. I don't know the relevant law, probably something to do with the weights & measures act???

Quite correct. I was Weights and Measures in the mid 79'S so the law mag have changed but then they would gace to charge in the amount filled from a stamped pump.
  8. I recently renewed our grade 2 leisure mooring and I didn't have to show a council tax bill . Granted this might have been an oversight by the marina .I did have it confirmed to me though that between april and October you could stop on it as long as you wanted on a BWML grade 2 mooring

Personally ive never had a problem with BWML or their staff , I do however know people who have had problems with them

In fact the situation with BWML Marinas is different for some of their locations. To simplify, where they offer resi moorings then there is knly one grade of leisure. Where they do not, there are 2 grades sometines 3
  9.

Avoid BWML then, they are already garnering a reputation for crass, bad, and heavy handed management.

I have at least two homes, (my Father's house and lodgings in Frome) neither has a council tax bill with my name on it. It is also possible to pay council tax on a home you don't actually live in.

I'm not often outspoken on here, but the sooner BWML go out of business the better the marina market will be

Re council tax, my position exactly. They are just looking for reasons to charge more
  10. Sawley marina have residential moorings as well as leisure moorings . One thing to consider about the residential moorings is that from march to October you can technically stay on your boat in the marina on a "long holiday " so you could stay there on your boat for 6 months. The also have a shower block , washing/drying machines and toilets Have a look at their moorings definitions on their website

BWML have recently changed their stance. Ti now get a leisure mooring you need to show a Council tax bill to show you are not ging "live" on your boat. They no longer have a blind eye. We have suffered from the "charge more for a residential" purge.
  11. I must have been unlucky then.

In these days of cut backs and money saving exercises I think cleanliness and Hygiene Standards should be high on the list.

Do CA&T have operatives doing the rounds cleaning the sewage disposal points? Do these guys,if they exist, know when the bins are emptied? Are they instructed to give a sweep around the bin compound once the bins are cleared?

Or is this just ignored? Then it becomes a major task and would take three or four times as long. You then get into the 'is this my job' syndrome.

The large wheeli type bine are contracted out. The contractor eill only empty the bin not any surrounding rubbish. If any is reported to CRT then the local COPs team will clear up the mess, taking them off their normal duties.
  12. You are right. Our Webasto takes about 15 amp for certainly no more than a minute to warm it up and then settles down to about 5 amps per hour to run the fans. Have never noticed it takes more on close down to be honest. Will take more notice next time its on.

    I thought that 50% SOC for a 12V battery was roughly 12.2V?

The voltage you have there (assuming its accurate) is more like 35% SOC!!

Not sure about Webbs but sploggers on shut down stop fuel, air puml goes to high, glow plug comes on to purge and water pump runs to cool for about 1 min then shuts off.

  13. Yeah the 92% to 62% is a bit worrisome, but it would depend on the length of time the Webasto had ran before the morning's reading was taken. Really we need to know what ran in that time, how much current it drew, and how long it ran for - the ideal job done by an Ah counter.

I don't want to get into a debate on Ah counter vs smartgauge, but I bought the former and it allowed me to know properly (well, to 2 decimal places) the current draw of every device on the boat, so now I know the things which consume a lot, and those which are minor things. But of course, I don't know the actual (I know the theoretical, but I know they're not that...) capacity of the battery bank. Thus I have to take the % SoC with a pinch of salt, and/or guesstimate the capacity from a bunch of different nights' consumption (largest was 62Ah, which was enough to set off a low voltage alarm when the fridge came on at 7:30am). Your setup of both Ah counter and Smartgauge sounds great - but costs ~£300. I looked at the "Smartgauge Mk2" but its something like £600.

Ok some really rough & ready maths, with loads of assumptions in it!

An hour of Webasto got the state of charge 68% to 61% ----> 7%

Webasto draws 5A and ran for an hour, therefore 5Ah used

    Therefore, battery capacity is 100 * 5 /7 = 71Ah

battery bank is (labelled as/ was sold as) 3x110Ah

They have 22% of their original capacity.

Conclusion - either one of the batteries is a dud and is self-discharging (and taking the others down with it) or they are all a bit knackered (but still have a bit of life in them).

But start up current is quite a bit higher to power glow plug.

I think our Ebersplogger takes about 15a on startup. Might be only for a minute ir so though. Ditto on close down as well

  14. Some problems are caused by boaters notlocking facilities after use like elsan and toilet doors etc. Some by contractors not emptying bins as per contract.

Lots of unauthorised use of bins by non boaters. Lots of fly tipping.

There is no cost effective answer. Just needs all boater users to take the time to make sure doirs are closed and locked after use. Much like closing lock gates after use. Some are just too lazy to protect their own interests

  15. I think I have the solution. CRT need to introduce a clause that you can only buy a CCing licence if you have a pump out toilet - thus you will need to move to empty your tank at regular intervals.

    Sorted.

I like that. Great idea. I will suggest to my waterways manager to submit into the suggestion scheme!
  16.

This was a chap called John IIRC, who died a year or two ago and whose passing was mourned on here.

When I did the Stourbridge 16 solo in the freezing cold and slashing rain he was nowhere to be seen. I even had beer ready for him should he have shown up!

  18. After my status charging reaching 100% yesterday

Going to bed and then reading 92% before

    Turning off inverter

    Turning of fridge

Only thing on is courtesy led lights though 24v

    Woke up status reading 62%

Webasto came on from 5am till 9am

We had 2 showere before we went to early doctors appointment 7.30 till 8.30 , came back it's 56%,

Radio on 19.5 v through own little inverter.

    Where does the charge go?

    Engine on again for charging

Will defo look at solar panels next, mate had a panel and controller fitted Saturday, and his raving about it

Couldyou explain exactly what you mean by LED lights on THROUGH 24v.

Do you have a 12/24 converter or is your set up 24v throughout?

Excepting this question, sounds like self discharge of batteries due to being F'd
