Stoppage: Update of Emergency Closure of Llangollen between Grange Bridge 13 & Swanley Green Bridge 10

13/06/06 UPDATE: It has been confirmed that from 12noon on Friday 16th June 2006 the canal will be fully navigable and both Grindley Brook and Hurleston Locks will be operating as normal. British Waterways would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. Due to a collapsed culvert it has been necessary to close the canal between bridge 13 Grange Bridge and bridge 10 Swanley Green Bridge. The public footpath is closed between bridge 12 Halls Lane Bridge and bridge 10 Swanley Green Bridge. No craft is permitted passage down through Grindley Brook Locks. No access is allowed from the Shropshire Union Canal onto the Llangollen Canal. Further updates to follow. UPDATE AS AT 07/06/06: Following our initial investigations, repair works have now commenced to renew a section of the damaged culvert with teams scheduled to work dawn till dusk. We anticipate that full navigation will be reopened by Friday 16th June 2006. This completion date is earlier than the original expected time scale of 2-4 weeks. A further update will be available on Tuesday 13/06/06. (Enquiries: 01606 723800) :P:D

  2. Oh well back to the planning!

Was going to do the Llangollen in about 3 weeks time while on the Four Counties Ring, been looking forward to this for the past 9 months, now this. Will now probably do the Four Counties and include a trip up the Macc and Peak Forest Canals.:blink:

  3. Am off in a couple of weeks time for a weeks cruise from Acton Bridge and was thinking of going up to Chester. Does anyone have any info on mooring in the city. E.G are they safe or are there any no go areas that we should avoid.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

  4. Hi Steve,

I tried that last year with Anglo Welsh at Trevor on the Llangollen. We were staying in Anglo’s cottage at Trevor in September and saw at least half a dozen boats sitting there all week, so made them an offer of £250 for a long weekend and was laughed out of the door, they wouldn’t even ring head office to ask, it seems they would rather have the boats sitting there doing nothing than let them out for what I considered a good offer for a weekend.
