    Kromhout

Right, I’m still having a few teething problems with the Kromhout. I’ve cleared the injector and I think that’s ok now. It starts easily and runs at tick over well. I can’t get it to rev up though. I think it may be the governor which is centrifugal and on the back of the flywheel. It moves a collar with a cam on, back and forward. When its static the collar moves to full cam by spring tension. Adjusting the throttle lever up and down raises and lowers the fuel pump so fully lowered the fuel pump hits the cam on lts longest stroke giving a big squirt of fuel. When its running the collar doesn’t seem to move far enough for the full cam to line up with the bottom of the fuel pump. I think it’s held back by a lack of spring tension to overcome centrifugal force. It has run in forward and the collar pushed (manually) to full cam and it easily turns the prop, so it’s not so overproped to stop it spinning up. So if I adjust the tension on the weights it should resist centrifugal force pushing it off cam? Any ideas.

This may be a long shot, but has anyone got an injector or nozzle like the one in the photos. Its off the Kromhout and is not an original but an aftermarket variable spray one. The nozzle doesnt appear to be spraying correctly.
  6. Ive been given the Kromhout spec sheet. They used one size for each engine regardless. Can anyone make head or tail of it, to come up with a size for the M1 model ?
  7. This is the quandry.A knowlegable friend has looked at the injector nozle, which is detatchable, and recons its been modified over the years (1925) and may not be spraying correctly. It starts easily ,would an incorrect spray patern reduce performance that much? I need to play with it a bit more next week. Thanks Tony, but no alternator.
  8. Ive got a 28 x 25.5 inch. With forward engaged it wont pick up above tick over. With partial forward it will pick up.
  9. Hi, Could anyone help with a prop calc as I seem to have over proped the Kromhout. Its a single cylinder producing 22hp at a max revs of 440 rpm.The engine is 10 litres ,direct 1:1 drive. In a 70 foot narrowboat of around 25 tons. Any thoughts ? Cheers.
  10. I’m after a recommendation for someone to carry out electrical work on my boat. She’s on the G and S canal at the moment but could move her within reason. After the installation of another engine I need the consumer unit relocating, invertor wired up, battery bank re installed and wiring set up for a battery charger/portable generator. Do I need an isolating transformer? If so that needs sorting as well. I could probably tackle this myself, but I want it to be right and most important safe. I need an electrician who knows what he’s doing on boats, any recommendations?

  18. Hi, Could anyone help me work out the taper on a prop? Dimensions I have are: SHAFT DIAMETER: 50.8 mm. / SMALL END: 41 mm. / TAPER LENGTH: 146 mm. I really need it in imperial. 50.8 equals 2”. What I need to know is this 1:12 or 1:10? Thanks.
  19. Its this one She had a 3 cylinder Lister before.

  21. Im thinking of buying a Hyundai 3000 suitcase generator. Has anyone any experience of these or suggestions for similar priced alternatives ?
  22. Thanks,I have had a quote from Jooren, Are you happy with the prop and there service ?
  23. By having a 4 blade prop ,how much roughly does it allow you to reduce the diameter compared to a 3 blade ,if any ? I have been quoted as needing a 28 x 25 , 3 blade. Would a 4 blade 25 x 33 be similar ?
