  1. Hello,

I'm looking for information on the average height of a cross double bed. I've taken delivery of a new boat and

    a) didn't specify the height of the bed, as a consequence it's 22" without the mattress

    B) foolishly didn't think to check before taking the boat

    c) presumed the boat builder would use some common sense and put in a bed that maximised the width below the gunwhales.

When made up the mattress comes to within 2" of the gunwhale so anyone taller than 5'6" can't stretch out. I'm challenging the boat builder who is willing to lower it but at my cost!

I'd like to quote some bed heights as I think he's being unreasonable. Any info gratefully received.

    Many thanks

PS should have said it's not boatman's cabin cross bed.

  2. Well the good news is my budget has doubled, Mother has decided to match my budget as long as I dont borrow any money (i.e. Bank Loan). Now the bad news, I cant seem to find a decent boat for around £20k. Have spent this weekend veiwing 3 boats that sounded great.

1st one the owner never showed up for the veiwing :D

2nd one looked gr8 in the pics, but the pics must have been taken about 5yrs ago when it was newly painted and the carpets were a sea of dog hair.

3rd one turned out to a Springer and not what I was looking for at all.

Now for the question asked by my Mother (84yr old) "Is there a place like Car Craft where all these boats are in one place", I trawl the web most days looking at the sites but cant work out if Braunston would be the best place to look. I am based in Stourbridge West Midlands, so the weekend is the only time I get to get out searching.

I am looking for a tired cruiser stern as I have a mad cocker who never leaves my side (except to chase chickens), a trad would be no good as I dont want her falling off the stern. Ideal length would be between 35 & 45ft with a fixed double berth (just in case I get lucky  ).

So if any of you kind people point me in the direction of the Car Craft for Boats, or know of a boat that may fill my requirements please feel free to contact me.

    Take Care

    Dave

Have you chatted to boaters along the canals in your area? They often know of boats for sale locally and the pro's/cons of the boat.

I too have a devoted and enthusiatic cocker spaniel. First boat had a cruiser stern, current boat has a trad stern all the falling off to date was from the cruiser stern mainly due to getting carried away at the sight of all those ducks, moorhens etc within tantalising reach. He is now older and wiser! He now wears a harness on the boat as it's better than a collar for fishing him out. Metal pilings and concrete walls make it virtually impossible for the dog to get out and onto the towpath unaided.

    Have fun searching!

  3. Are you close to middlewich because i could show you. It may be flooded yes, you say that it smokes when you switch it on? If that is the case then it may of had a few fail starts and it would need servicing.AdamI could show you if you can get to middlewich.Adam

    Hi Adam,

many thanks for the offer, I'll bear it in mind. I'm currently on the GU south of Braunston.

Re the fumes etc, yes I'm getting an oven full of 'smoke' with an accompanying diesel pong when I attempt the lighting.

Is the servicing difficult and does the oven/hob need removing to do it?

  4. Hi TonyThe noise you hear is a fuel/air in balance this could be because the exhaust is too long or it has a large bend in it. Check the exhaust and try and make it as small as possible. If its the fuel then this is more complicated, you would need to adjust the pump. Do the exhaust first if that doesn't work get back to me and i will tell u what to do next.Adamhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmm now thats a thinker lol. It could be a number of things. If you have done to many resets then you could of flooded the burner pot with fuel. it could also be a faulty glow plug. I could identify the problem if you told me the light sequence, i.e what flashes and how long for.Have you been shown how to service the cooker yet?Adam

    Hi Adam.

I'll check the sequences when I'm back on the boat and let you know.

I did wonder if it was flooded, how can you check? Also wondered if the external temp affects the fuel flow?

No, not been shown how to service the cooker or the fire! I understand the oven was the first the boatbuilder had installed so he may not be too sure himself, I'll ask.

    Thanks

  5. Hi All

For those of you not aware, I run a fleet of 15 all diesel hire boats all fitted with wallas cookers and have had them fitted for 3 years or so (2 different models).

We had lots of teething problems, and customer errors but we have now ironed them all out and am offering the opportunity for any on line help and support for anyone that has them fitted or thinking of fitting them.

    SO ASK AWAY..................................

    Adam

    Hello Adam,

I've been reading the forums since joining but this is my first 'post' and it's the topic of the Wallas cooker that prompts it.

I took delivery of my new boat in late August 07, it's fitted with diesel cooking and heating. I'm developing an 'understanding relationship' with the Kabola 3d stove and the Wallas hob is brilliant.

I had my first attempt using the oven last weekend. After a number of failures at lighting, locking out and resetting etc, I gave up. The oven made the same noises as the hob but instead of the temp light staying on after the 'smoothening' it went to flashing/cooling down and the oven, and subsequently the boat, was full of fumes.

I rang Kuranda on Monday who said that based on what I'd told then they couldn't be sure what the problem was but it sounded as if it was an exhaust issue and advised I contact the boat builder. I did this and as I'm not moored far from them they came out but but they were also unable to get the oven functioning but assured me it had been lit and run successfully when the unit was installed. I'm waiting to hear that Kuranda are on the way but in the meantime any ideas?

    Thanks

    Bronwyn
