Hi and welcome to the forum!
Thunder is a great name for a boat.

very different thing to a nice 'anchor up' for a spot of tiffin when its all planned and managed nicely.
My point exactly.
Having used this anchor to veer into cliffs in large swells and onto beaches in breaking surf and it lot let go and dash the boat and crew to a thousand peices it would be the first type of anchor I tried. Of course if it were rubbish I'd be back to the interweb to try a different one.
But again, setting the anchor comes under boat handling and is a skill that needs to be practiced and honed away from danger.

It looks like the most rubbish anchor is the cqr on that table.
The RNLI's D class and B class lifeboats are fitted with CQR anchors. They can drag initially if not set right but if they bite once they won't let go! It would certainly be the first I would try..
As an aside, how much chain would one use on their anchor Line?

I did London last year with the parents, I went to work during the day, they went sight seeing. We steamed in the evening and first light before work to get us about a bit. Was lovely!
Always a place to stop with other boats ahead or astern, no dramas at all!
Unlike in Scotland where they got their boat let go overnight and got gobbed on from bridges just for being English...

Actually someone told me many yonks ago that it was illegal to modify (usually lower if cash is involved) a selling price on the grounds of method of payment. I can't imagine this to be true, as I believe that some companies routinely charge a higher price when customers are paying by credit card, but I'm sure that one of our legal experts will clarify the situation.
Having owned a "Golf Chandlery" I know that I sold whatever I wanted to whomever paying in whichever way they wanted at whatever price I deemed appropriate
However, I do know that price fixing is illegal but suppliers have ways around that! It seems that for those slippery enough there is always a way round everything.
Back on topic, it will be interesting to see what happens with LadyG's purchase #Excited (do we hashtag on here or is it considered a little "uncouth"?

There's a sound way of finding out. Offer me more than £8,000 in RFC and see if I accept it or not.
Don't listen to Athy. Offer me £10k cash...
(This could run for a while)...

Is there not an 8k limit on cash transactions?
Depends how heavy the suitcase is that you're carrying it in!
You may need to provide evidence for money laundering over a certain amount I suppose... No idea what that may be, not sure it even matters...
Someone will be along shortly no doubt

Great Work! All looked great and I enjoyed the drone footage!
Thanks for sharing.

I've nothing major to add as all the good stuff has been covered!
It's a great idea to work on your boat handling away from the stresses and strains of a few beady eyes and other vessels. Always make it harder than it is in real life (put in an imaginary obstruction/put yourself in with the wind to the wrong side etc blah).
When you are nervous or unsure and have a crowd it turn the simplest thing into the most terrifying of manoeuvres!
As I used to tell my students when I was teaching boat handling.... "Slow is beautiful"

I quite like the "Trump Chimney" Stove!
Everyone like a bit of bling..

Most boats rust from the inside out, if not at the waterline.
+1 on this

We carry O2 on the lifeboats in easily portable bottles.
as has been said, no grease and although not flammable will make fires terribly spectacular and the bottles could still let go like other pressurised containers.

Wow! They are all grim!
Although The extra headroom on the "Sun Bleached Tango"
boatthing might be good for some... -
Morning all!
I'm Matt. I've been lurking here for a little while, joined up to post in the "Fenders up/down" thread (Something I feel very strongly about). Oh, and stowed for cruising, out for manoeuvring and down for mooring is the correct way to use fenders
I've been out and about a few times with my folks helping them with their holidays but have been around boats since i were a boy. Sadly it does look like my days of getting salt in my G&T are behind me now as I have moved inland.
So far getting a canal boat has been nowt but wistful meanderings of misguided want and fancy until recently. Luckily/unluckily my parents have asked me to buy myself a boat that they will be able to use whilst they can (very sad).
I've stuck an add in the wanted section, got Apollo Duck saved to my favourites and will be looking for a leisure mooring somewhere between the big smoke and Bedford, I might even stretch to Milton Keynes!
I do hope to bring a little humour and maybe even be helpful! Catch you out on the boards
Matt

Until the tiller pin parts into a brass bit and a steel bit, as happened to one of ours a few years ago. (I caught the brass bit after one bounce off the deck, but the steel pin went over the stern, and had to be replaced. The new one is pinned to the brass )
That's a lot of pins!

What about Speed?
A vessel just making way has a lot less effect on the water it shoves around than one going at full pelt...

As has been said and you are doing, service them yourself. But watch you are putting the right cannisters back in!!!
Sorry but im going to rant now...
Life jackets only work if you are wearing them.
- Do you know where it is
- Does everybody else know where it is
- Do you and everybody else know how to put it on correctly, adjust it, use it?

Touching and using this kit regularly will keep it in better shape and if used appropriately will save lives. Keeping it stowed under a bed in a bag not so much...

If the lagging is very old it might be asbestos tape, so if it is breaking up you need to sort it. I think it was early 90's when asbestos lagging tapes were banned.
Assume anything before 2000 contains asbestos is a good rule of thumb. It is still used in other countries so avoid cheap products from overseas.
The foil idea is Superb!
Get a Bilge Rat in that engine bay, their small hands can get in all the nooks and crannies!

You could of course just make the whole boat out of fenders. Although you get a bit nervous in locks as they do pop easily!
I'm with the "down for mooring out of sight for everything else" group.
