I'll do it for you. I'm at a loose end at the moment.
Can depart Berko Sunday morning.
Me;
10 years living aboard, continuous cruising. Good knowledge of G.U, Oxford, Coventry canals.
Currently living on land for past 3 years so boatsmanship maybe slightly rusty.
Reasonable mechanical skills.
RYA Inland Waterways Helmsman Cert.
Plenty of UK identification including driving licence etc to prove my id and current address.
I'll cover my own food, you cover fuel and any other costs should it break down etc.
Would want to bring my dog with me.
£800 cash or bank transfer.
Give me a shout if you want to chat.

I phoned them, took the videos about 5 days ago, called them from the towpath when I first saw it. Have walked the path every morning since.I was expecting at least a reaction on Monday by at least setting up a better cordon around the hole. It’s Wednesday and nothing has happened so I thought I'd put it out to the wider community.

Could the poor state of repair of the towpath on the Aylesbury Arm lead to another breach?
Approx 50 yards away from Circus fields basin I came across this leak(?), there is hardly any surface above the flowing water under the towpath. I can see a couple of bad outcomes here, firstly the possibility of a serious breach of the canal wall collapsing into the Brook below. Secondly, it won't be long before the surface collapses under an unsuspecting walker or cyclist.
The second video is taken approximately 100 yards further on in the Marsworth direction away from town.
If there is a breach it will leave the boaters of Circus Fields stranded again following the lock collapse by the Arla site some year ago.

Will be in Marsworth this afternoon and have heard about the Aylesbury Canal festival this weekend, if I head down the Aylesbury arm am I likely to get a mooring as a non participant or is it all reserved for traders and pre bookers?
Will leave the boat in maffers and get the bus if Ayles is crowded rather than work the 16 and have to turn around!
If anyone who is down there can advise id be most grateful! ✌

My foolproof auditory cassette indicator;
1. Purchase a ping pong ball and slice in half with a heated wire.
2. Place cricket (available from all good reptile stores) in one half then replace the other half using a liberal amount of super glue.
3. Insert ping pong ball in cassette.
4. When the chirping gets louder you know the cassette is getting close to being full.
5. If you find ping pong ball on bathroom floor, you have left it too late therefore recalibrate your hearing until you are au fait with cricket volume to cassette volume.
n.b, a few ears of corn can extend the working life of this system by many days, no professional cricket seller will advise you of this because they want you to make many more regular purchases but through trial and error I have discovered this which has brought my cricket expenditure down by tens of pence per annum.
You're welcome.

Good news... and bad news! Daniel, the owner, was at the boat this evening. Nothing was taken and he's now moved on to find a better spot to board up the window (he was contacted this morning btw). Bad news is that there are a lot of scrotes around here. You can see them dealing just around the Slough junction, they're not exactly subtle! And the really bad news is that another boat, a little further up, has been broken into in broad daylight and had a lot of valuables stolen in the last few days. The Police were apparently unavailable to answer the phone to allow the owner to report it! Sadly, a sign of the times it seems. Time to move on methinks.
That stretch of the GU through Yiewsley is awful, if you look in my post history for around this time last year you'll see I posted asking for advice about a very similar situation where I came across a boat that had clearly been broken into. It was moored almost opposite from the entrance to the Slough arm. The only place I would ever moor round there is right next to the cctv cameras outside Tesco, if those moorings are full I just keep going!

You may be exactly what I've been looking for. I have been worried about the security of my pride and joy because I work away quite often. She's bright and airy, has excellent 360 degree views of the neighbouring waterway. Malibu is designed for two in a traditional wooden boat style. I'm going to be out of the country during Oct & Nov so if you would like to care for my baby, please get in touch and we can discuss expenses but these would be minimal. Pic attached.

Cheers,I just had a look at their website, it say Arcturus is in the water & Sirius is in the yard but I don't know how recent that info is. There are also a few interesting old boats for sale on there. Might take the dog for a walk to Puttenham today and see if I can spot them.
-
Just woke up and turned on the tv to find "narrowboat afloat" on the Quest tv channel. It had an interesting segment on Arcturus & Sirius and it reminded me I haven't seen them for years. Are they still around? I did some googling but couldn't find any recent information about them.

I would phone it in to CRT, or whoever the licencing organisation is in the area, as they should be able to contact the owner.
Proberbly best not to post the details of the boats location on here.

Cheers, just tried and got an answerphone. Will try again tomorrow. Should I go back and edit out the location? How do I remove the tags?

I've been on the stretch directly outside Tesco for the past 10 days or so while I did some work on the boat and have had no problems but there are 8 CCTV cameras focusing on that 200 yard stretch and I've been on board apart from when walking the dog or popping to the shops. Unfortunately the other boater was moored further along out of view of the cameras.
There are definitely plenty of undesirables around here, I would not be happy to leave my boat unoccupied without a doubt.

I've just taken the dog for a walk and been past a boat that has been moored here (Yiewsley, GU) for around a week.
In the bow well deck, the front security gate has been wrenched off and the door window broken above the Yale lock. I'm pretty certain it wasn't like that yesterday when I walked past. I gave a shout but it appears no one is on board.
The boat's name is written in either Greek or Cyrillic letters which I am not able to reproduce here but it has Zhodino written in brackets in small letters underneath. It is about a 50ft blue trad with a large No3 painted towards the stern.
If you are the owner or anyone knows them, could you let them know and that it is in an unsecured state.I'll keep an eye on it while I am still here but I'm moving on tomorrow. I've reported it to the police via 101 and they said they are going to send a unit down shortly.

I think they were installed during the war, I could be wrong on that, the idea being if the canal was bombed they only shortish stretches would drain. There are lots in the London area. You also find them at the ends of canals built on embankments with very long pounds like the Shropie where if a breach occurred there would be miles of canal drained
Cheers, that's exactly what I wanted to know. Nice one.
