  1. CRT web site says nothing about blown cill, Sawley marina this morning told the same but local CRT office, and that is that it's closed until at least Wednesday, as I said the problem is not water levels, it's the lock cill that needs reconstruction and that why all the water ran underneath it.

  2. They were saying the call had blown and the lock was to be drained and re-concreted, they had already poured cement in above the top lock gate to seal them up !

    Cill not call

The levels in the pound above are rising but only because the top gates have been sealed

  3. Shardlow lock on the Trent & Mersey is currently closed, boater used boat nose to open gates and damaged one, CRT on site carrying out repairs, but no waster above to fill, expected to be closed until tomorrow.

  4. Hi, thanks again for the advice, the trip which is last week of July and first week of August will be my first on a river navigation so I was really after some reassurance, never having before to think about river levels, weirs and flow, and possibility of limited moorings,

I had visions of being swept downstream and struggles to find places to stop regularly for water and elsan,

I'm feeling confident that our chosen anti-clockwise route of the Leicester ring ( starting at Norton jct ) will be an adventure.

Our boat is called Aurora, leaving Norton jct Friday night aiming to get to Watford locks ready to be first in the queue sat am, keep an eye out for us and our miniture wirehair daschund, shout hi if we are passing

  5. At what point on the GU Leicester line does it become the soar and flow as such and as you approach and pass Trent junction at what point does the Trent become the Trent & Mersey and therefore not flow any longer ?? Are there plenty of mooring on both river sections ?

    Thanks

  6. Thanks, I can Imagine that was a shock to see the lock had moved, it's not a hire boat we are taking, it's a friends so I will definitely check for an anchor, that's somthing I'd not thought off so thanks, I have Collins waterway guides so I've already marked the weirs up so I know what's coming.

  7. Hi, although I have been on a dozen or so narrow boat holidays I have never been on a river navigation and am concerned about the Soar and Trent sections, particularly weirs.

I am looking for help or advise from seasoned boaters who have traveled this ring. We are setting off last week of July for 2 weeks, any advise on rivers, weirs and markers would be greatly appreciated plus tips on pubs and shops for stocking up during the second week.

We are setting off from Nortnon junction and traveling anti-clockwise, many thanks in advance.
