  1. when we bought the little critter in my avatar pic, chosen in advance and properly planned, we took a friend with us who is a soft touch for anything cuddly.

    she bought his brother

she then felt even worse because there was still one left from the litter, a small bitch, and she cried all the way home.

Greenie for that - I can't stop laughing at this!!

  2. Well whats the chances of that happening.!!!

We finally get a photo of the missing boat on the cut, and the occupants are actually the owners.

And I bet that if you had told Nick and Anne that fact, we would all have said "yeah right, call the police"

Glad you have been reunited with your boat, and hope its been looked after to some degree..

Yes, it was a no-win situations!

Delighted that the boat is back with its rightful owners, and Junior, I owe you a pint for being the he cause of your late night vigil.

  3. Suck eggs time...

Do nothing with the photos apart from provide the originals to the police. If they are the guilty party then the photo may help in prosecuting them.

    Good advice, thank you.

We might have some other information that might aid the investigation so once it is confirmed that Rare Bear is indeed the missing boat, we will offer up what we have to the Police.

  4. I went down there last night and waited nearly 2 hours for the police. Eventually they told me they didn't know when they would be able to send somebody as they were very busy. So i went home about 01:30.

Tried to call the owners whilst i was there but only got answerphone. I would hope the owners set off as soon as they got the message.

I believe the boat has now been found and is in police possesion. Perhaps the owners could confirm?

Great job Junior! Lets hope this is now sorted!

If it turns out to be Rare Bear, then the pics may turn out to be useful after all.

  5. can you see if there is a side hatch between the front 2 windows?

    Yes there is.

    yes very true.

Can nick add any more pics that might be useful. (like the ones he has already done.) A view into the deck area perhaps.

I have a view into the deck area, but as it shows people's faces it would be inappropriate to post on here. I will keep the picture though, just in case...

BTW, we only took two pictures - what I have been posting are zoomed in sections of the original picture.,

    Maybe email it to yourself?

    Richard

Old camera I am afraid, it doesn't do emails.

Sounds stupid but why not email the photo from your phone to pc?? I do this all the time. Or up load the photo from your phone to here or text someone the photo who can do it???

We took the photos on our camera, an oldish Canon jobby. I have had to photograph the camera screen with my phone to post what I can on here.

  6. Mike, that's what happens when you look at Pearson's and forget the North arrow!

However, according to my Pearson's, if you are going north from Weston, Sandon comes first, followed by Aston, then it's Stone!

Nick, if you're not in a rush, then why not stay put and have a nice canal walk.....(of a southerly nature)?

And, if you can, get a nice sharp photo.:)

Of course you are right, we did Sandon Lock after Weston Lock. My apologies, must be the excitement.

I have a nice sharp photo, it is just on my camera, and I don't have the cable to upload it to my computer :(

Not sure what else I can achieve by going back at this stage. We really need either someone to eliminate this as a genuine boat, or for the owners to act further. We will keep a watch out in case it moves again in this direction. If it is genuine then they are probably on their own mooring. If not, they have a pretty good place on the offside to continue the work on it.

  7. Ill leave early in the morning ill drive to weaston if i dont see them ill drive to sandon and walk to weston if no one is closer than me but its a bit out the way from bclm though and im coming from mk so its not exactly close but if no one elts can ill do it

They would be heading towards Aston rather than Sandon.

We are slightly ahead but will keep ears and eyes open in case they pass us.

  8. Can anybody see the picture of this latest sighting well enough to see if......

    1) It has the side door between the frontmost 2 windows

    2) It has the brass fender eyes let into the hull side

    and

    3) Where the stern dollies for tying ropes to are, as this seems to vary between boats otherwise of the same genre, (one example has them behinf that back end "shroud", another alongside it.

All these things would take steelwork rather than paint to disguise, so if any of those things fail to match, I think it becomes less likely this is the missing boat.

    1)Yes

    2)Yes

    3)See below

From the zoomed photo on the camera.

According to NickandAnne the boat is moored facing south. There is a winding hole about a mile south should they decide they want to turn around, or if they keep going in the morning the junction at Great Hayward is about three miles.

I am sure I said NORTH...

  9. It could. Shame we don't have an index number

    Richard

I tried zooming in on the photo - the index number is painted on the front top edge, but unfortunately the glare from the sun obscures it.\

If the owners of Rare Bear were getting all stressy about having their boat photo taken, just imagine the state they will be in if people start writing down their registration number! Maybe a quiet word as to why might be a good idea!

The lady on board demanded to know if we were searching for the missing boat. If she were genuine she would obviously deny that this was the one. One the other hand, if it were the stolen boat, then they would probably say the same thing. These thoughts flashed through the brain very quickly, but Anne had already replied that she liked the boat name, and by then further explanation was too late as we had passed by.

  10. We have an ex-Canal Time boat, and have had a very happy couple of years so far with it.

Of course, these boats are not everyone's cup of tea, but I have noticed how much nicer other boaters are since we put the BCN Challlenge sign on the front! So much so that I haven't taken it off!
