Hmmmm again.......... One wonders if its safe to set foot on this canal! what with the lock gates what gave way, with 2 boats in the lock chamber, then the other land slide and now a breach....... certainly adds some excitement to doing a canal, maybe they could get a plate made saying "Completed the Rochdale Canal without Incident!".... hehehe

Hi Ian, Having just spent last weekend in Clarence Dock, at the side of the Royal Armouries, I can reccomend that! Its safe, you are in an enclosed basin with floating pontoons with water points and electric. Whatever you do do tho, visit the Armouries, its totally FREE now, (lottery funded) and its an all day, day out, to boot! On going in, they give you a schedule of todays shows and re-enactments, and unless you are really into looking round guns and swords all day, I would reccomend just going from one re-enactment to another on the schedule.......that alone will keep you busy all day, they start the shows from 11am and finish at approx 4 pm.....

So as well as a camera, now have a brolly handy too!
