A mixed day. All was lovely until we got to the bottom of the Stourbridge flight where a 'man' was fishing right on the lock landing. I had to call out to him to move his rod so I could moor. When I got off the boat we was very abusive and threatening to the point that I called the police.
I don't really want to go into it too much but it was the worst experience I've ever had while boating - by a fair margin. I ended up not attempting the flight and am now moored with the other boaters for the festival down the arm.
Blimey, good job I wasn't there then, he'd have been at the bottom of his keep net! What's with people today??
We'll be setting off tomorrow morning at about 8 and should be coming through Merry hell in the afternoon. You're welcome to a lift! I'm planning to stop for the night at Bumblehole.
Merry Hell is about right lol, can't abear the place. Thank you in advance for the lift, be nice to be on the cut again

How do you remember them all??!!!
Or do you use the same one for everything?
Just as bad as letting the browser store them!
MtB
I have 6 main 'passwords', if you can call them that, They are random capitalised/lower case letters and numbers that I've used for years. I can remember all of them quite easily which for me (can't even remember what I had for breakfast) is quite surprising lol

How've you got on Dave?
I'll be up at the waterfront tomorrow tinkering with a few odd jobs on Tara, under-achieving calorifier for one. Stop off for a cuppa on your way through and (as long as I'm finished tinkering) I'll cadge a ride up as far as Bumble Hole/Netherton Tunnel if that's OK?

I know you can do it with Opera too, and the internet says Chrome is just as bad. Scary really.
Hence me NEVER saving my passwords for anything on any browser or computer!

Thanks for the offer Lee but I've got other commitments on Saturday and won't be able to leave Kidderminster until around lunch-time / early afternoon. I reckon the Red House Cone is do-able but the top of the Delph from Kiddy in around 5-6 hours might be pushing it somewhat! I should have 1 or 2 crew with me but you're welcome to come and help too!
No problem, might try and catch up Sunday then as the dinky boat (Tara) in my avatar is currently moored at the Waterfront, the kettle will be on as I'll be there lol. Pity it wasn't an early start, we (Tara's owner and I) managed 17 miles and 44 locks on the GUC a month or so ago, that took us pretty much dawn till dusk though.
As for overnight moorings, either stop in Kinver, Stourton or as you suggested the RCH.

I guess the 2 that are normally there will also help can't rember there names but I can remember one was called Geordie Something they have helped me a couple of times
I know the Dudley Canal Trust are taking their 2 working boats down but after a 14 hour day on 5 hours sleep I'm having trouble remembering my name let alone boat names lol!
Bob.Brian.Oh yes, Lee
The butty is Leo.
Thank you! I've been sitting here racking my brain cell trying to remember.

Be mindful the Stourbridge Boat Show is this weekend Dave. Are you single crewed? If you are and I can get a ride early on Saturday morning, I'll do your lock running and get you above the Delph 9 before sundown
Lee.
It is the festival at the end of the Stourbridge arm this weekend which normally attracts about a hundred boats. I imagine that most will
be there by tomorrow night but image that many will be leaving during Sunday
TimA lot of boats gathering at the Waterfront between Blowers Green and the Delph today (I'm working up there ATM) including the old BW Scorpio and butty 300.

Is she called isobella ?
No, it's the other one, Katherine Anne Parker and I've just had a reply...
Hello,After my last experience I'm not welcome visits any more, sorry. The best way to complete this transaction, because of the distance problem (I'm in Ellon in Scotland, the boat is also here with me), is to use eBay Money Back Guarantee. They will handle everything for both of us, including transportation and transfer of the boat papers to your name. You don't have to pay anything extra, the total price that you must pay for this boat is £6,720, including transportation and transfer of the papers to your name. Here is how the transaction will go on:-I will make a private eBay listing for you.-You will have to click "buy it now", fill in the forms and follow the instructions.-eBay will send you an invoice with all the transaction details and the payment instructions.-You will have to secure the funds to eBay.-After the funds will be secured to eBay, the delivery will begin and the boat will arrive to you in max. 48 hours.-When the boat will be in your custody, you will have a 3 days inspection period. If everything is alright, the transaction ends and eBay will release the money to me. If there is something wrong with the boat, you will be fully refunded and I'll get my boat back too, without any extra fees.Everything is covered by eBay. I will get paid only after you confirm that you received it. I would need your ebay username so I can send you the link. I'm waiting for your reply.Thank you.Yes of course I'll tell you all these details!!! For a start my date of birth is the 15th October 2014!!!! Lol.Imagine the jiffy bag it'll turn up in?! I hope it's sent recorded delivery lol.Lee. -
Right, now I'm actually home this was the reply I received...
Hello,This boat its just perfect, Immaculate condition, no damages, once with the boat you will also get all the equipment my husband had.The final price is not negotiable: £6720. My husband died 2 months ago and I can't even use it because I don't have adriver's license. I had a buyer just 1 week ago but that person really scared me. He came with 2 friends and wanted topay me with fake notes. I was lucky that my father in law was close and noticed that. Since I'm getting a lot ofmessages regarding the sale, I decided to list it on eBay with a buy it now option and whoever wins it will be the nextowner. I assume you already have an eBay account. If not, please register and let me know when you are ready so I canemail you the link.If you'd like to secure the deal before anybody else does, then please buy it on eBay. Feel free to ask me anyquestions.ThanksMy reply just was...Hi again, I do have another question. When and where can I view the boat?Lee.I don't expect a reply!Lee. -
I've just had a reply to my Loot query. I'd copy n paste but I'm on my phone. It's almost word perfect to the previously posted fake reply.

The seal/joint between the steel and GRP can be problematic with regards to water ingress. Do you know or can you ask if it's ever been rejointed? Check for water damage inside below the gunwales. It's quite a job to reseal them properly, normally involves jacking the whole GRP top up off the hull.

BW Reg. No. 88396 I think...

I'm sure 99% of the responses scammers get are from people who have sussed it's a scam and are asking the awkward and/or revealing questions.
To get a response I suggest you just dive in and state you ar desperate to buy it NOW, before anyone else sees the advert.
MtB
I don't like to appear desperate but I tried

Hi, I really like the look of this boat, it's just what I've been looking for Where is the boat moored? Would it be possible for me to come see it this weekend?
Thanks in advance.Lee.Lets see what happens lol.Incidentally, pic 5 on the advert has the BW Reg. No. on it and a mobile number, can anyone read them?Lee. -

It's only 28' though, not a big buck selling boat is it?
But if you read the description, there are twin bunks at the stern then and engine bay before the galley... It's the flippin' tardis lol

I'm guessing it would be virtually impossible to keep a determined person out of a narrowboat with windows, even if a window had security film the whole thing could be knocked out with a couple of blows with a lump hammer?
It is something I've wondered about, and I am always nervous if I leave the boat unattended to go to the shop/pub etc.
A simple switch/relay/timer relay as you leave, a glass break detector and some (several)135db sirens (not quite legal in this country) from the USofA Some scroat breaks a window, detector picks it up and screams blue murder till the timer relay cuts them off. After they've soiled themselves from the shock of the sirens, them and their poopy pants will be off as fast as they can hobble lol
I did something similar when fitting a CAT1 alarm to a previous car. Silent/un-flashing alarm state for 30 seconds, doors deadlock then 4 x 135db sirens and 2 ultra white strobes go off inside the car with the standard siren, hazards and main beams/fog lights. At least if they got away they'd be half blind n stone deaf lol.

I'd buy them all but pay by Nigerian Western Union

Has anybody tried fitting security film to normal toughened glass windows or ports?
The stuff is available relatively cheaply on the web.
I've wondered about it as I've seen it done in business premises when I was working.
I wondered if it's necessary to remove the glass to fit such film and whether it's a diy job or one for professionals.
Filming is easy enough to DIY with the glass in place, it can be tricky to keep air bubbles out but there are tricks. I did a short stint tinting car windows (limos n chavs mostly) and didn't take me long to get the knack.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Batteries!
in Boat Building & Maintenance

That'll teach me to scan instead of reading, now I've read it (although still not completely clear) it does intimate gas for the fridge and stove.
Also from re-reading the OP (properly) I see the batteries were charged before setting out, and charged on the run (both alternator and solar) but what was the timescale between mooring and the batteries failing?
