  1. There is another scam out there to be wary of if you are selling, especially on Gumtree or Ebay etc.

You get an e-mail from a "buyer" who says they are interested in your car/boat/caravan etc but they are working abroad and cannot come to see the item. They will pay by Paypal and then arrange for a courier/relative to collect the item. As soon as the car etc is collected they cancel the Paypal payment by claiming a defect, misleading description etc and you are then without item or money.

  2.

To be precise, we can't be absolutely certain that the restaurant is losing money without seeing the books, but based on the little we hear, i.e. people observing it to be near-empty at various times, it very probably is losing a lot.

The café has always been slow in the winter and early spring, so I think they make up the income in the summer when it is usually rammed on nice days.

  3. Well PLM/PLT are starting to cut their coat according to their cloth, unfortunately not on the management salary side though.

What a shame that the management weren't on the Performance Related Bonus Scheme, they would have saved a fortune or at least £180k

RR says this is purely supervisory, not management hence the low wage.

    One word - tightwad!!!

  5.

erm....Im on a residential mooring and I pay almost £1000 a year in Council Tax. Why do the boats at Pillings lock only pay £152/yr ?

    ???

    am I paying too much?

Could it be that PLM doesn't have a demand from the council for residential council tax and the £152x(a number of boats) covers the commercial council tax for the apartment?

  6.

Somewhere there is a court case where an individual had this situation aired in the court and won the case against the local authority charging boat people paying council tax.

It was mentioned to me as a matter of precedent by.......none other than Paul Lillie in between an argument regarding extra surcharge on post

    packets!!

Its a pity that i didn't go to the bertholders meeting to put this forward.

Word has it that PL was asked to pay a substancial amount of revenue for the commercial use of the apartment(penthouse) above the caff and has used this scam as a means of extra revenue.

I did mean to check this statement issued to all live aboard moorers with the Charnwood council way back but let it go expecting for someone or two to take the case up.

I did hear that one leaseholder was so pleased about being charged council tax as it made his lease MORE VALUABLE!! Poor soul.

It may be a idea to ask Charnwood Council if they are receiving council tax from Pillings Lock Marina on a residential basis...IF INDEED PLM HAS PLANNING PERMISSION FOR SUCH..

Not that it bothers me as i don't hang around PLM anymore....But!

After a week away I've just had a quick browse through the pages I've missed. I agree that if PLT have paid £30k up front that they may not have to pay quarterly payments in addition, but I don't see how that protects CaRT after April 2015.

DD, I think we both remember the boats that started all the residential status debate. But it is interesting that the question of residential council tax did not arise until after PL starting using the apartment as a commercial enterprise.

  7.

I cannot make up my mind if Paul Lillie has obtained special training at one of these extreme religious cult outfits to influence staff and certain customers .

Or is just a common & garden B/S merchant !

    Definitely b/s merchant.

It did strike me that PL could augment the coffers by holding seminars for budding "business persons" showing them how to set up a business, put it into receivership and start again, all in the blink of an eye. That should pay the next NAA instalment.

  8. I have to confess that I like this post. I for one have been so hacked off with the whole of this situation and I have failed to see that Mr Rollings may well be a good chap and been brought in to actually get the marina back on track and properly profitable and paying its bills correctly.

I too wish him well at this point.

    Martyn

I agree, but, for the time being I will offer benefit of the doubt.

    Martyn

I agree with the sentiments but, bear in mind that RR has been working at the marina for some while and in all that time he has only ever been a part-time employee doing what he has been told, and from what I have seen and experienced personally his demeanour and mind-set is totally along the lines of PL. He has not been brought in to get things back on track, his name has been used solely to set up a phoenix company to allow PL to carry on in the same vein. There is no way RR will be taking on the reins and telling PL what to do and how things are going to be run.

He will be absent from the marina from September if he undertakes the LPC, which is a 1 year full-time course and the work load is astronomical (again personal experience). If he continues on his career path to become a barrister he will than have to find a pupillage overseen by one of the Inns in London, again a heavy work load. So his involvement in PLT/PLM for the next 2-3 years will be negligible. But who would be willing to take a bet that his service to PL has resulted in him leaving uni/training with no debts.

I hope that RR sees that future involvement in this situation will do nothing to enhance his prospects, and starts to think seriously about what he needs to do to make sure he achieves his career aspirations.

Do not be lulled into a false sense of security that now RR is listed as director that everything will change. It will be the same old, same old, just with a different name at the top of the page. Watch this space.

  9. As CRT's terms are payment quarterly in advance it's entirely in their hands to make sure it doesn't happen by making everyone stick to the rules.

As for another marina doing the same, unlikely if CRT enforce advance payments and anyway they would have to structured the companies in the same way as Pillings. A front company with no assets a holding company beyond the reach of the creditors and a rich backer, otherwise receivership would strip them of the assets, as someone remarked earlier in this thread the way Pillings was structured was very lucky from their point of view as they've come out of it creditor free and with all the assets still in place.

    K

    Nothing stopping a company "re-structuring".

  10.

The NAA standard agreement says payments three-monthly in advance. So the next installment is due on 15th July 2014.

My prediction is it will be missed, but we will hear feck-all about it until we see in the courts that CRT have allowed 16 or 17 payments to be missed, at which point PLT will go into administration and CRT will make some empty threats to blockade the marina.

Nest, I predict, a new phoenix company will be formed and CRT will say 'oh, ok, forget the £360k, water under the bridge old chaps. Here, have another NAA and just pay us a token £30k and you'll be good to go for another five years.

    MtB

My first prediction is that the next story we hear about is a another marina using the same scenario, goose and gander and all that.

My second is that the payment will be made in July as RR will be around at that time, but the brown sticky stuff will hit the whirly gig come September when he goes off to Nottingham (IIRC) to do his LPC. He won't have the time to be involved in PLT to any extent at that time.

  11.

So Paul Lillie is a shape shifter now...Either a Stoat or weasel!!

Known also as a shark around the holiday home perhaps

And the difference between a stoat and a weasel????? One's weasely recognised and the other's stoatally different. Sorry!!!! frusty.gif

  12.

She does indeed. Very keen on her wildlife spotting, is Lynne.

" I also saw a stoat, or it may have been a weasel!"

Ah, the power of selective quotation.

Dear Peter X, Unfortunately, my long distance vision is not what it used to be, so a small animal scurrying across a field at a rather rapid pace was somewhat unidentifiable to me. I have never claimed to be an expert on anything, and my blog is simply aimed at showcasing some of the interesting parts of Loughborough that may have escaped people's attention. Thus, the coverage is broad and basic. I should also point out that I am not connected in any way to either Pillings, C&RT, or any other organisation. Lynne

I think that Peter X's remark was not to do with your vision Lynne, rather it was to do with seeing a weasel (as in PL) scurrying around clapping.gif

  13. I think it sounds like a lovely place, well Lynne makes it sound like a nice day out.

From the Leicester Mercury re the name of Flesh Hovel Lane

The grisly name comes from the Quorn Hunt.

“This is where the knackers yard was,” said Colin Crosby. “When the horses were past their sell-by-date, they’d slaughter them here in the sheds.” And there the meat would hang, ready to feed to the hounds.

  14. because I like it there and that is where I want to live. With regards to carts much needed income, please!!!

Are you for real?? This is the kind of arrogant, self-serving comment that PL or CSH would come out with.

It is obviously beyond your comprehension, so in words that even an idiot can understand....you pay your rent to PLM, who pay it to PLT (or should) who then pay CaRT (or should) so that you can cruise from the marina unimpeded and use the waterways and then return. No where in this scenario is CaRT required to invest any monies into your marina.

Anyway, enjoy your mooring while you can, because no doubt everything will come full circle and one or other of the leery companies operated by PL will go bust and you will be looking for another home.

  15. Having watched this thread since January it has provoked my great contemplation of the purpose of the discussion and it’s value. Although I am not a huge fan of Wikipedia, this article seems to sum things up quite succinctly and I leave it you to work out why…

You must have found some interest or entertainment in this thread if you have taken the time and trouble to watch it since January. I fail to see how your link to the article in Wikipedia has any reference to this thread at all. It is not an attempt to incite hatred against a protect group or individual, it has nothing to do with race, religion, ethnic minorities, disability or sexual orientation. It has to do with an outrageous and immoral action by a small number of diverse individuals.

"Hate speech is, outside the law, speech that attacks a person or group on the basis of e.g. race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.[1][2]

In law, hate speech is any speech, gesture or conduct, writing, or display which is forbidden because it may incite violence or prejudicial action against or by a protected individual or group, or because it disparages or intimidates a protected individual or group. The law may identify a protected individual or a protected group by certain characteristics.[3][4][5][6] In some countries, a victim of hate speech may seek redress under civil law, criminal law, or both. A website that uses hate speech is called a hate site. Most of these sites contain Internet forums and news briefs that emphasize a particular viewpoint. There has been debate over how freedom of speech applies to the Internet.

Critics have argued that the term "hate speech" is a contemporary example of Newspeak, used to silence critics of social policies that have been poorly implemented in a rush to appear politically correct.[7][8][9]"

In the United Kingdom, several statutes criminalize hate speech against several categories of persons. The statutes forbid communication which is hateful, threatening, abusive, or insulting and which targets a person on account of skin colour, race, disability, nationality (including citizenship), ethnic or national origin, religion, or sexual orientation. The penalties for hate speech include fines, imprisonment, or both.[3][62][63][64][65][66][67] Legislation against Sectarian hate in Scotland, which is aimed principally at football matches, does not criminalise jokes about peoples’ beliefs, nor outlaw “harsh” comment about their religious faith.[68]

  16. Security cameras are just one of the things promised that never materialised, like the security gates to the pontoons that ended up being a plastic chain link because the money ear-marked for them had to be "used elsewhere".

If we're allowed to mention co-incidences, it was the same year that PL took an interest free loan from the "fledgling business" (CSH's phrase)

  17. Here we go again!

This has been going on for some years with this pub. A great shame.

I travelled almost the length of the Ashby Canal from Shackerstone to here in 2011 and 2012, almost to the day and experienced the same on both occasions. I didn't bother last year. Once a favourite stopping place, but no longer I think. On the second occasion I emailed Everard's and they rang me the following day to assure me that this wouldn't be happening again. Hummmmmmmmmm

In Atherstone tonight but shall go straight to Sutton's tomorrow!

    James

The pub is open now, was in there last night and it was very busy. Please give it another chance. Even though the couple who are managing at the moment leave on Tuesday we'll still try out the new manager and hopefully he will keep the beer and food up to the current standard.
