Funny, how different people are isn't it?
I have never noticed if another boat has a valid license displayed or not, and rarely notice if there are trade plates in the windows or reg number painted on the side of the boat. I'm normally too busy checking out their plants, top boxes or solar set ups. Guess we all have sightly different priorities.
Yes, I would like it if all boaters fulfill their obligatory payment of their license fees. However; I don't really think if they did my license fee would decrease. But it would be more money in the coffers of the Trust to maintain the waterways, and that can only be a good thing.
I'm just not at a point of taking the time & energy to check other boats - too busy enjoying all the other pleasing & interesting sights on the canals.
See us man can multi task

So, do you think a boater could be an enforcement officer, or am I likely to get egged every time I go cruising?
Good luck, if you pay your bills you would be happy to see enforcement officer
-
just seen this on a facebook forum for narrowboaters. a person has found a dog in the canal black and white staffy trying to get board the boat facebook narrowboat users group
-
Who's he?
And I think I will pass on the narrowboat at sea!
is that because you have a ocean going boat
-
I just don't understand why anyone would be peering at boat windows to check whether their licence was in date rather than enjoying the view.
Does the OP look at car tax discs as well to check they're in date?
sorry i can do both at 4mph

Adam,
People are being snitty with you because there are THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of posts on this forum discussing the questions you are asking, posted over the years.
Try having a search and read some of the existing posts explaining the issues.
See you back here in about a year! (Because that's how long it will take to read everything already written on the subject.)
MtB
thank you mike but if people have seen it before why bother giving snidey comments instead of a helpful reply
-
I am sat with other boaters that have been looking at your replies well done you have put them off joining this forum
-
Some people worry too much about other peoples affairs?
why are you putting a comment on then
-
Are you bored? Or trying a bit of a wind up or perhaps both?
no trying to find out the truth

CRT have indicated at the highest level in meetings that provided they can identify a boat from its index number they have no interest in seeing paper licences displayed, and no longer make any use of them when boat checking.
They would very much like to discontinue paper licences, and apparently it is only people like you obsessed with the fact that people are not displaying up to date ones that makes them shy away from this obvious cost saving.
(Just saying, like!).
people like me who are obsessed?? When you stand in a queue and someone pushes in do you stand there and say nothing??
-
Someone told me because CRT is a charitable trust you don't have to pay? but didn't sound right to me? wonder if that could be a reason? because they live on it what action could they take?
-
Just because there is no licence displayed does not mean that the boat is unlicenced.
because it says they must be displayed?

My boat is not the best boat.
However to me she is beautiful.
I named her, I saw her from lump of steel to completion, well nearly completion, ongoing project.
Its the only thing in my life I have had almost total control over
I love my boat, I care not if in others eyes she's not the best boat
She's mine, all mine, not the kids, not that cruel bastard I married, but mine.
And thats it really.
That is the best comment yet in my opinion
Its a bit narrow proper boats are big and wide which is why canals are big and wide up North so that proper boats like mine can sail on them
Peter
lol
I am from Hull my dad used to have a humber barge bigger up north lol

It's not a competition

My first narrowboat was brand new, and each successive boat I've owned has been older than the last.

We could all say our boats are the best because we own them and paid for them
