  1. We are hiring a boat for next week clapping.gif , Wednesday to Sunday on the Lancaster. This is our first long term boating experience with our two dogs. I have already put my order in with Mother Nature for sun (in any form) but no rain please. I am hoping to see some wildlife (of the animal kind), take in a pub or two or three, keep my dogs from jumping into the canal, feeding the ducks and swans, and generally relaxing on the water without pouring down rain like the last time. Can't wait. biggrin.pngbiggrin.png

  2. We had our cratch cover made by Wilson's and it is very well made, but was damn expensive!

Anyone know how to get tree sap off their cratch cover by the way?

Try hand sanitizer. They also say Vodka, but that seems a bit of a waste unless you do the "one for you, one for me" thing. I think the alcohol in it does the trick. It works on clothes.

  3. Not sure if this appeals to everyone but I got a laugh from it.

For those of you that are not following the recent controversy that has to do with Laura Schlessinger: she is a radio personality who dispenses advice to people who call in to her radio show. Paramount Television Group is currently producing a "Dr. Laura" television show. Recently she has become a convert to Judaism, and now she is Ba'al T'shuvah. Recently, she has made some statements about homosexuals that has caused the Canadian anti-hate laws to censure her... The following is an open letter to Dr. Laura which was posted on the internet...

    J. Kent Ashcraft May 2000

    Dear Dr. Laura,

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind him that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to best follow them.

    a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

    B) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

    c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

    d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

    e) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

    f) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an Abomination (Lev 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

    g) Lev 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

    h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev 19:27. How should they die?

    i) I know from Lev 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

    j) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev 24:10-16)

Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Your devoted disciple and adoring fan.

  4. Just as I would have every right to get defensive because their "god" says that I am so naughty for not believing in him that I will be tortured until the end of time.

Their god may not, but there probably a few on this forum that would like to have a whack or two. icecream.gif

  5. That's what I get for helping...being corrected. frusty.gif

Maybe you should have left "however silly it may be" out of the sentence. I find people get very defensive when you attack their beliefs.

Just to make it a little clearer, Buddhism is not a religion, we don't believe in God, heaven, hell, or the bible. And if God could be seen, then there would be no more reason for any religion to exist.

(quote) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report.

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. (Hebrews 11)

So seeing God would sorta make everything you thought before null and void. Just my opinions but with a touch of actual Bible scripture to back it up.

  6. Hi carlt,

Yes I am new to forum, just over a wk,so pls forgive any teething issues,I truly don't wish to offend ,ime just trying to settle in,so to speak,,I truly can't understand this,,,its so simple in my mind,,,I had a enquiry,,iasked it,,,it was answered to my satisfaction,,,that should be it surly,,,carrying it on could be for the sake of provocation or argument...

You can think of it like this: you are out with your friends in the local pub and someone asks how Manchester did in last weeks game. It gets answered and then they go on to talk about how terrible this player has been or how is Liverpool doing, etc. etc. It is just chat, good, bad, or boring. No one goes out with friends, asks a question, gets it answered, and then everyone sits around silent until the next question is asked and answered. Some like to provoke here and after being here for any length of time, you will see who does and who doesn't. It's all a bit of fun. Welcome.

  7. I'm with Beaker and others, all that festival is, is a commercial con job and the sooner it is stopped the better.

Now any future threads on this subject and I will ask the mods to close them, no I will not I will just ignore them and just let the misguided carry on.

Whoa, someone must have stolen your Christmas cracker when you were just a lad, sorry for that.

Although I do agree that so many holidays have become too commercial, it is what you make of it. We seem to have drifted away from hunting down our own fresh tree (even from a tree stand) or from letting the children make ornaments for the tree and decorate as a family or wander the streets with a bunch of friends singing songs. We now buy plastic trees and fill them with expensive baubles and pricey angels at the top, we see how many gifts we can buy for each other, and rush around until we are exhausted just to make sure everything looks perfect. (some even hire others to do it for them) Christmas now has a price tag and has lost that warm, fuzzy feeling you should be getting. Sorry for being such a romantic about Christmas but I still hold on to the old way of Christmas...enjoying good friends and family, watching Christmas movies on the TV, having a fire in the fireplace, and baking cookies.

  8. #2 I don't think is true. It shuts down so you don't have to take wee while playing sports or anything else during physical exertion.

#6 That we know of wink.png

    #12 is a myth.

    # 32 is not true. It only appears to because you body is starting to shrink and dehydrate.

#33 is more like a minute for an adult

#40 is wrong, need to include the horse

#49 not true, look at statues of Napoleon on his horse

Thanks, I needed a bit of playtime before doing the dishes. biggrin.png

  9. So, come on, what do you do?blush.png

I don't have a boat.sad.png Maybe someday soon. Usually we have no tree and I struggle to get gifts (so the hub doesn't see them on Christmas morning) because my husband is a humbug. Great guy, just a humbug at the holidays. I do get presents wrapped for our two dogs because they are spoiled rotten little fur balls. This year we are spending two weeks in Germany with his family, going to Christmas markets, and drinking lots of Glühwein....I will need it if I have to drag him along, he hates shopping. Maybe this Christmas with the family will put him in the holiday spirit and if all else fails, the variety of spirits certainly will. blink.png

I believe that Miss Beer is still seeking a boat (pardon me if I'm wrong).

Before we took up our Oxfordshire mooring, Trojan was parked at the end of our garden in Upwell (as per my avatar). On Christmas morning we would drape her in tinsel, set off down to Outwell, usually picking up a few friends along the way, then turn round and moor up at the Globe for a couple of lunchtime pints before heading home while it was till daylight. We were usually the only boat moving on the river and got lots of waves and greetings from people out walking, except for one year when we met a narrowboat coming the other way under a bridge. My cheery cry of "So there are two loonies around here" brought forth a rather old-fashioned look.

It's the only time that I ever drank and driv.

Miss Beer, I like that, made me giggle.

Sounds like a great time. It is nice to be able to hit a pub or two and not worry about hitting a tree or car on the way home. Not much you can hurt on the cut unless lots of boats are around or you need to take a lock or two. But I guess you could always dust off those rubber bumpers just to be on the safe side. biggrin.png

step 1: keep fire going 247

step 2: drink sloe gin till blind

    step 3: repeat step 2

  10. Not the topic you thought it would be but hopefully enough at least look to give their comments. biggrin.png

    A Canal Christmas......

What does everyone do for Christmas when you live on the canal or rivers as CC or otherwise? Do you put up any lights? Do you have a tree inside or out? Do a lot of you get into a large group taking along lots of friends and sing carols as you drift along the canal through a town or anything? Are there any exciting canal boat holiday parties that go on? Just wondered what some do during this holiday season. After all, it is only 3 months from today....ohmy.png

  11.

Are you not getting even the teensiest bit angry about people saying you are angry?

    laugh.pnglaugh.png

No but I may be getting paranoid because I thought Gingerbeer was referring to me when she mentioned one really angry person on the forum.

I may have to take the laptop into the bunker and put my tinfoil hat back on

See what happens when you think. Always thinking things are one way when they aren't. I should be upset but how can I be with a someone with such a cute old git avatar like that. wink.png
