  1. I think I saw Justin Bieber all dressed in pink and another dressed in pink with piggy ears...does that 0 below the Brains mean zero Brains?

You never see the designers of this type of clothing wearing what they design. Wonder why? cool.png

Too over the top I think. They look more like girls in some of the clothes.

  2. Are we really supposed to accept these types of articles and petitions as gospel????

One can read so much between the lines of those articles.

Taken at face value yes it sounds appalling but as so often we do not get to hear CRT's version of events which I suspect will be very different to those versions.

Articles like these sort of remind me of the commercials that appeal to children without food or clean water living in some other country and what are you going to do to help. It tugs at your heart strings and gets people all upset. Has there been any news about it on TV or newspapers? Reporters love that sort of thing don't they? But then again, there are thousands of people out there that will believe what they read without question.

  3. I saw that there was no subreddit for narrowboats or british waterways on reddit.com and i think there should!

    Thoughts?

There probably shouldn't be. Most don't know what you are talking about, others don't care, and the rest just like making fun with words. Reddit is probably not the best place. Just stay here. JMHO

  4. I think some of the problems some of us have is that we say "I may need that someday" so we keep it around. If we have a sock with a hole, I keep it for dusting..soon I have 10 socks for dusting. If you keep a nice lawn you buy a lawn mower, then you need an edger, then some fertilizer, then various yard tools...now you need a shed to keep them in. Everything can snowball from one item.

My thing is plants. I like them and collect them. Soon my house will be full, but not yet. Fabric can be an issue too if you sew or quilt. You never know when that color fabric will work and where could you ever find it again? I tried to find the perfect pillow because without one, I don't sleep well....I now have about 7 (small, medium, and king sized) and only one really works for me because I only have one head. I love sheets and blankets...I have more bed linen than there are beds on my block.

If you can separate a need from a want, then you have a chance. If you cannot...then make some space for the next shed in the garden. help.gif

  5. quote....

Let me introduce you to Glenn Greenwald a journalist, political commentator, lawyer, columnist, blogger and author. Greenwald was named by Foreign Policy Magazine as one of the Top 100 Global Thinkers of 2013. Three of the four books he authored have been New York Times best-sellers.

Not really much of an accomplishment...Sherrilyn Kenyon has had 64 best sellers on the New York Times list and she writes romance novels. We all have our heroes I suppose.

  6. i know its sad when any animal is hurt or worse killed but would also like to point out that in both reports there is a hell of a lot of guess work and filling in of gaps when there is know real evidence that any person is actually responsible for either incident

Horses and ponies can swim. This was no accident.

  7.

We have a holiday booked 9th June

Who do you both (Odana and you) have booked with? We want to go in June also but cannot book until January due to scheduling not coming out until then. I am just hoping something is left. I should be wonderful.

  8. Yet another YUM recipe.

I made a fish pie the other night and used the King Edwards for my mash. It needed a little punch so I put some garlic salt in, used a little double cream, and a tin of crab meat. Very lush.

I do love fish cakes and those sound so easy.

  9. I responded recently to a similar request and I will copy below what i said. The Scottish Canals web site is well worth a look. I note that you wish to cruise from Glasgow to Edinburgh but I think all the hire boats are based in Falkirk at the Wheel.

    This is what I said

Sorry not to have responded sooner but I was a wee bit busy when I first saw the message. (thanks, Ange and Brian for reminding me :-) )

The Lowland canals in Scotland are very quiet and peaceful with some lovely scenery. Capercaillie Cruisers ( http://www.capercailliecruisers.co.uk/ ) at Falkirk are agents for the main hire companies up here and all the trips start at the Wheel - an amazing structure and being on it on a boat is an experience not to be missed. As Ange said, going east on the Union canal, to Edinburgh and back can be accomplished well within a week. On the way you pass through Linlithgow, ( http://www.linlithgow.com/ ) a place well worth exploring. On the way to Linlithgow you get great views down the Firth of Forth to the Forth road and rail bridges. Another good stopping place (for food) is at Ratho where you will find the Bridge Inn canal side. Between Ratho and Edinburgh you cross the Scott Russell aqueduct over the city bypass before going through Wester Hailes where the canal had to be completely rebuilt before it could be reopened. At the canal terminus in Edinburgh Quay you are a short walk for the city centre with all it has to offer.

Returning to Falkirk, go back down the Wheel and turn right and you will descend a flight of broad locks which will take you down to the Helix project with the amazing kelpies ( http://www.thehelix.co.uk/ ) . These are almost complete and we look forward to their official opening (a new bit of canal to the River Forth) next April. Coming back up the locks go past the Wheel and continue to Glasgow where again you can moor very near the city centre. Unlike the Union canal into Edinburgh, the Forth and Clyde canal is a broad deeper canal and it is mainly used by sea going boats crossing from one side of Scotland to the other. After Glasgow, there is a flight of locks down to Bowling where the canal joins the Firth of Clyde and if you have time, it is worth going down there. On the way you go through Clydebank where there is a boat through chip shop! You stop at the rear window and give your order, just like MacDonalds do for cars.

The Wheel and all the locks and lift bridges are done for you by Scottish Canals staff and while this makes it a more restful trip, it means that you have to keep to their time table.

With two weeks you should be able to visit all the canal termini - Edinburgh, Helix, Glasgow and Bowling, but it will depend on how much time you wish to spend exploring off the canal.

I may be just a wee bit biased, having a little Sea Otter up here and having attended all the events since the canals reopened, but I think the Lowland canals are well worth a visit.

If you want any more information about specific aspects, please ask

    haggis

Thank you so much Haggis. I searched for anything on the Forth and Clyde but this post never came up or anything like it. Lots of great info. Thanks again. When we finally decide, I will certainly keep you in mind for any questions. Cheers.

right now all the hire boats go from Falkirk which sits in the middle of the two canals, so you choose an out-and-back trip towards Glasgow or Edinburgh generally. If you wanted to do both, you'd probably want a fortnight. Makes me think it would be good if there was the opportunity to start in Glasgow and go to Edinburgh in a week, but then i suppose the next hire would have to go the other way.

If you have a week, my preference would be to head towards Edinburgh rather than Glasgow. The Union is a great wee canal and Linlithgow, Ratho and Edinburgh are great stops. I've not seen a good set of photos showing the whole way, sorry.

Do you keep your boat in a marina someplace on the canal? There didn't seem to be many marinas on the canal but maybe I haven't spent enough time researching them. I love Edinburgh. Probably my favorite place to go next to Yorkshire.

  10. So would that not cover a review of a tin of paint or a drill - assuming you told the truth in the review?

Under the Defamation Act, a statement can be said to be defamatory if its publication "caused or is likely to cause serious harm" to individuals' or businesses' reputation. However, only if businesses have suffered, or are likely to suffer, "serious financial loss", can they bring a claim of defamation against commentators.

I don't think one or even many bad reviews on something will cause serious financial loss or harm. I wouldn't worry about saying a product is crap if that is what you believe. judge.gif
