Hi DeanS,

Tee Hee Snigger....had to look up Louisiana Cajuns! But, alas, no we are not....Jack Duckworth from Coronation Street called his wife Vera "My little Swamp Duck"......my hubby thought it would be funny to refer to me in the same endearing way.....Not being very impressed but trying to be very quick I replied "I love you too my little Swamp Frog" and now it seems very apt. I wonder if we should declare ourselves Louisiana Cajuns? Might even develop our own dialect? Told you I looked it up!
Yes Tyler Wilsons are highly thought of....as are Milburn Boats...they have been truly amazing, patient, honest, enabling and just all round lovely people and they continually help us to achieve our dream boat.
Thanks for the good wishes x

Just needed to say....our new boat "Swamp Frogs" should be ready early February.
We designed every detail ourselves and she is looking lovely. Hubby retires on 4th March (after 34 years at the same company).....boat in the water mid February....move aboard....sort out any snags....get to know our new home....then party on the 30th March...everyone stays overnight...breakfast on 31st then off we go! Continuously cruising the beautiful canals.....how great is that? Just wanted to share it with you all...see you out there x
Here she is

Could someone please tell me......if a narrowboat is a standard width of 6 foot 10 inches what is the standard measurement of the interior width from gunnel to gunnel?

We will be going for a contract with 3 15GB for £15.99And what network and contract are you going for?
-
Okay, so we will be CC's from next March, what address do we have on our Driving Licences? We are sure there will be times when we have to get a hire car!!! YUK!

Thank you all so much for your ideas and help......we are going for a Option GlobesurferIII+ with a external Ariel fitted. http://www.3grouterstore.co.uk/index.html This would seem to be the best option?

I have an option globesurfer III+ for sale, good device that can take an external arial and a standard voice handset. Selling it as I upgraded to a device that support 42 Mb/s. Served us well, and I absolutely have to have internet access to work from the boat.
Details here.. 50 quid, we are currently in the Oxford area.
Can you tell me what you are upgrading too?

Hi all.......
We are having our boat built and will be ready next March.
We will be continuous cruisers and want the best internet connection there is. The best we have found is the "Huawei Black MiFi" from 3.......any body use this or have a better idea?

Help.....
We are currently in discussion with our boat builder and we cannot decide whether to have a solid fuel stove or not? we will have Webasto diesel central heating, but should we also have a stove?
Neither of us are particularly fond of stoves but we will be continuous cruisers and can't decide?
Opinions will be much appreciated
Cheers

hi been reading posts on forum for sometime now and our plan was to sell up and liveaboard in 3years then at christmas decided it was now or never, put house up for sale january and sold subject to contract ,now we are giving away furniture and the likes to family whats left will go to recycle bins and charity shops but cant believe how good it feels down size and de-clutter.just stuck waiting and hoping it all goes through ok,so as soon as we get our boat im sure we will be driving people mad with loads of questions(cant wait)till then mick & tracy
Love it! This has made us laugh so much as my wife and I have done the exact same thing. Having a boat built now and ready next May, retire in 3 years time. Thats all changed! Boat will still be ready in May 2013 but retirement bought forward to March 2013!!

Your missing something
Then I am missing something too?

Help,
We are having our Narrowboat built and are going with double glazed units. We know that there is nothing to be gained from this on a heat loss, noise reduction way but it's all about replacing the window as the glass comes out as a single unit without the need to take out the frame.
Does anybody have double glazed units? if so, in your opinion should we go for full pane without a hopper, or windows with a hopper?

This will entirely depend on who you ask!
I'd say probably at least 90% of boaters use a normal garden hose - we certainly do, (on the boat that has a water tank!)
However some are going to argue that by doing so you risk plasticisers leeching from the hose, and doing you potential harm.
I'm sure we will (again) here a lot from both sides of the argument, before this thread has run its full course!
You don't know how much your reply made us laugh......cos I (hubby) is with the 90% of boaters and a garden hose is ok! Wifey says no.....
-
Hi all, Can anybody advise......
can we use a garden hose to fill our water tank or do we need to buy a "food quality" water hose?
-
Thank you so much for the replies.
I have spoken to both Beta Marine today and Barden Batteries who gave usefull info too. It would seem that the batteries are not substantial enough and that a 5KV travel power pack is also needed.
As we currently live in a house and pay 12p per watt that seems cheap as its always "on tap"
To be contained on a boat is giving me a headache...........but will get there.
Thanks again

Help.....
We are going to have our boat built and can't get our head around the power needed.
we will be continuous cruisers. The boat will be 60ft.
Standard fit out but with a washer dryer 4.56Kwh
The engine is a Beta 43 with a standard fit 175ah alternator.
A 3000Va inverter.
4 standard 100ah batteries
12v fridge
12v freezer
gas oven/hob
Microwave
Tv and car radio
Is this enough power or do we need something else?
